1975 - KISS visits Cadillac High School for Homecoming. This is my wife's HS. Her parents still live within eyesight of the school on Lake Cadillac, MI.
I am from Michigan and have been to Cadillac. This is a really small town out in the middle of nowhere. It is in the middle of Northern Michigan closer to the Upper Peninsula than Detroit. That was a very rural town in the 1970s (and still is). For a New York based band that was getting national attention in 1975 to go there makes no sense...unless that band is KISS.
I definitely wouldn't consider a rural town (now at least.) There is A LOT to Cadillac, I remember riding my bike through Cadillac into the heart and listening to the bands that would play at the pavillion behind the movie theater
Kiss performed in the gymnasium of Cadillac High School with no blood spitting, fire breathing and flaming flash pots. Well they still had some fog machines, Ace Frehley’s firework guitar effect, a few explosions with sparks, and Peter Criss’ levitating drum riser. Kiss’ 1975 high school concert was on the Alive! Tour (1975 to 1976)! ROCK ON AT CADILLAC HIGH SCHOOL IN 1975, WOAH!!!!! 🤘🎸
In Paul's book, he said that the helicopter flew them only to the school parking lot, where it landed and they got in a car...they couldn't afford a flight any farther! Lol. This was just as they released Kiss Alive, and hit it big...in fact, this story was the very time I'd ever heard of Kiss, when Kasey Kasem talked about it on American Top 40!
KISS put Cadillac Michigan on the map. A marriage made in rock and roll heaven, I'm still waiting for the alleged documentary that was said to be made in the 00s about this monumental event. KISS and Cadillac Mich. will live forever together.
They said that Kiss wasn’t allowed to have flames and fake blood on stage in the high school gymnasium. I understand the school’s concern about the risk and the graphic content. So Kiss just had fog machines, flash pots, it’s lighted logo, the levitated drum riser, and Ace’s smoking guitar and his firework effect during his solo. It was fair enough.
They are so lucky I wish they had visited us in NJ for class of 2020 where he had to be in covid times literally in high school. I wish they did and other schools but it man for us was hard
Thats my hometown! im younger than that but can remember some stories lol. thats my friends grandma 42 seconds into the video with KISS. Ive only ever seen the pic from the newspaper, this video was excellent!
Watch 4:27-4:37 where Gene says a 5 year old said Gene didn't do his makeup right and Gene thought the kid wasn't qualified to say that, and then he realized the 5 year old was right. Ha!
Kids today at Cadillac highschool listen to hip hop maybe that's the problem . Play some rock and roll in locker room instead of hip hop. Soon it will be forgotten today's kids never heard of kiss . Sad go hip hop woo woo
The only thing i can compare Kiss's Cadillac Michigan episode to, is the Sex Pistols' Huddersfield Christmas Day in 77. It's more than promotion , it must have turned into a radiant holiday of intense human experience. One of the good things Rock and roll has brought into this ball of confusion.
+Edward Przydzial I seem to recall, way back when I was in high school, some 30 years ago, there was a story on YOU in the Detroit Free Press (maybe Detroit News) about your obsession with KISS and how you bilked photo and wire services out of items for your own personal collection, pretending to be from different magazines, looking to "borrow" items with no intention of giving them back. The headline said something like, did a fan's obsession with this rock band go too far...I still have the paper somewhere. You look exactly the same as the picture they ran of you, too, minus the 'stache and glasses.
I don't understand why this vid doesn't have as many views as justin gayber's baby vid has. People of my generation turn from your stupid ways and join kiss in the world of true rock and not bubblegum pop imposters.
