Hi guys!! Come on Clair Bro's crew!! When Gene or Paul ask you, in a sound check... "What do you want to hear!?!?" I know this is a bit "old," but someone in the male part of the crew, grow some "testicular hair," or from the ladies on the crew... "churn up some "Estrogenic testicles" and yell out very confidently and succinctly.... **FREEBIRD!!!** The look on Gene's face will be "virtually priceless!!" I mean what the hell, I am pretty sure that Gene and Paul have plausibly "mellowed out" in the years, and with Wisdom, humility and hindsight they have done so way beyond their years!!! And not for nothing, I would imagine that Eric and Tommy will not mind!!!! And again, I don't think Gene, nor Paul will blow a gasket at that song request!!! I mean look around the venue, it is business as usual, but with a very relaxed atmosphere too, as everyone there is "firing on all cylinders!!" And just maybe that would kick start the remaining Tour dates!!!!

Remember back in the day when this kind of thing was just a bunch of roadies, techs, and a few locals? I was backstage at the 1990 Hot in the Shade show in Phoenix and I pay a dime for the privilege. I knew a guy who knew a few guys that worked in various capacities for shows like this - lighting, catering and whatnot - and ended hanging out with Gene’s bass tech for the show. What was seriously cool about it was that he thought it would be cool to sort of give me the Grand Tour of backstage experiences because I was a huge KISS fan. I’d been backstage to concerts before, met a bunch of rock stars on their way up, but never at a KISS show. So, he did stuff like setting me up on the soundboard to watch the headliner, taking me on the KISS tour bus, and hooking me up with some really special stuff to take away from the experience. You can’t buy that kind of insider experience. Yes, he offered to introduce me to Gene and the boys (would have been Paul, Bruce, and Eric Carr on his final tour) but I opted to have him get my HITS album cover autographed and passed on the face-to-face because I had met a number of big stars before and knew it was a crap shoot whether they were going to be cool or shit on you. This was before Gene Simmons’ Family Jewels, before KISS were really so engaged with fans, and I had no desire whatsoever to risk my childhood hero worship for a five-minute chat in a cinderblock dressing room down the echoing halls of an old coliseum in Phoenix, Arizona. Do I regret my decision now? I don’t think so. I got to say a quick, “Hi,” to Bruce and Paul as they wandered around backstage during the performances of Slaughter and Winger, watched Kip Winger warming up while Slaughter was on, got mildly but loudly verbally accosted by Mark Slaughter when I wandered into an open door to what I assumed was catering, but quickly discovered was Mark’s dressing room… I don’t know. I came away with incredible memories, anyway, a copy of the tour itinerary (that show was the last in that itinerary and a new one would be issued the next day), some guitar picks, an autographed LP, a few minutes holding the famous Axe bass and chillin’ on the bus. If I have any real regret, it’s that I missed the opportunity to tell Eric Carr how much I felt his contribution to KISS meant to the music and the band because he passed away not long after that. In many ways, I miss that time in my life. Selling “Experiences” by any artist (KISS isn’t the only one by any means) feels like exploiting fans - but to be fair, it feels like cheating on the part of the buyers, too. It cheapens the experience. And instead of being impromptu, ad lib, sort of people just encountering each other on equal ground, it pushes that Rock Star - Fan separation that exists everywhere else. Even if I had thousands of dollars lying around doing nothing, I wouldn’t in a million years use them to buy time with any of my idols (many of whom I’ve met, anyway). It would be too much like paying someone to hang out with me. And how shitty would that be?

But here is the thing: its all economics. There is no such thing as making big money from selling music any more. Album sales are more or less non-existent compared to the 70s and 80s. Touring is the only way these bands make money, so they monetize that experience as much as possible. The only thing unique they can offer that can’t be duplicated or copied is their actual person. We live in a Capitalist society, and I have no issue with Gene and Paul getting paid. This access is cool if you can afford it. And for those that say “they are rich and don’t need the money”, that is true; However, they aren’t a charity and should not be in the business of losing money just because some fans may get butt hurt. They also employ a lot of people who depend on those paychecks. The beauty of freedom: go or don’t. Don’t like the product? Don’t buy it. Nobody is putting a gun to your head to see a Kiss show. These guys are pushing 70. I don’t expect them to be like they were when they were 25. But if you think its fun, then its worth it. But can we just lose the evil Gene/Paul rap about making money? Good for them. Who cares?

The problem with relying on upper head voice, when it’s gone, you have no foundation to fall back upon. Paul started signing with his chest and not his diaphragm years ago, even going up from Eflat to standard, in the 80’s/90’s. He’s like almost 70 now? You have to keep that foundation, if you want to maintain your voice. Look at Plant. He’s keeps his foundation, and while his high stuff and head voice is not strong, he can do it on demand. I hope this tour really ends kiss for Paul. He can focus on healing his voice, and maybe coming back like Stave Perry has, with a different take on singing.

Cool vid, but I was bummed when it ended just as a fan started to ask a question. Woulda been great to hear a little Q & A with KISS. Their answers here may have differed a little from their usual answers, due to few reasons- only a few people were there, and not the millions of a TV audience, where Paul and Gene are usually quite careful, guarded and specific with their answers. This was a more casual setting, right before a concert, they were relaxed, in their element, in their comfort zone, and we may have heard a few questions and answers that were off the cuff, spontaneous, interesting and different, ESPECIALLY since it was a FAN asking, and not the usual dumb TV/media questions they always get (money, their history, longevity, makeup, Ace, Peter, etc. - YAWN!) Note to RU-vid posters- if KISS takes questions, post THAT on RU-vid, in addition to the soundcheck tunes.

I was bummed I had to stop it too. I was lucky to get that much. My battery ran low and I wanted to save a bit for the show. To be honest there weren't any questions that you, as a fan, haven't heard. "How did you come up with your makeup?" "How did you meet?" etc... The most interesting question was mine, which was, "Why do all the studio albums begin with a "Paul" song except for Revenge and Carnival of Souls?" The answer was that Paul was trying to set a mood for each album and his songs just happened to do that. It wasn't an ego thing or a long-ago decided thing that he would do that.

I know! This is one of my biggest pet peeves with KISS.. Not enough song variety in the shows. Too many overplayed songs. Even after all these years, they never seemed to understand that people who show up to their shows are people who know ALL the KISS music. So they could have made their career that much better by playing music, either from a particular era or even from one or two albums etc. Wish they would have done that. It's true that they've played a lot of the deep cuts on the KISS Kruises, and I get how they would think that the fans who pay to go on the Kruises would get a special treat, but still.. they really could have capitalized on this. They could have even brought Ace and Peter back just for a part of the show.. and make that part, the last part of the show and put all deep cuts on it. The KISS Army would have gone NUTS on something like this.

His voice has suffered from years and years of head voice and mixed falsetto singing. Now look at King Diamond. Still killing it live, because his foundation is strong. His falsetto and head voice comes from his strong diaphragm. Also, look at Glenn Hughes. Strong foundational singer. Robert Plant, same thing. Yes, ‘Plaster’ is fun & catchy! Easy to play, too. All major chords- verse is A, D, F, G, D. Pre-chorus is G, D, F, G, A. Chorus is D, G, F, C, G. Never thought of playing it until I saw KISS UNPLUGGED on MTV. Great close-ups of their left hands on the guitar necks.

@@allenwebster6329 .....Allen, ........you don't think it would have been going out in style back in 2001 when they announced it on VH1 as the Farewell Tour? To go out with dignity and preserve the legacy? Think about it. Original band reunites, is together for 5+ years, rides out in the sunset and ends the makeup lineup permenently. There is no bickering about Ace and Peter, the replacement members or staying at the party too long with Paul's vocal issues. In fact he could have saved his voice. No hypocrisy making comments on other bands using tracks and then this. And........... not a lot of people would have been upset of having the non makeup lineup come back together and make some more music. However, things have gone the way they have because the makeup and costumes sell tickets. And there you have it.

@@allenwebster6329 Yo Allen, you stay safe too.... but I don't think Kiss(Paul) is giving their fans their money's worth when Paul isn't actually singing... fans are paying to hear them all perform and they are not fully performing... so the fans are not getting their money's worth... if fans want to see bombs and fireworks (which in and of themselves don't make it worth their money), they can go to a 4th of July Fireworks show.... I attended the farewell concert in The Gorge at George Washington in July of the year 2000. That was the last tour that you saw Ace Frehley and Peter Criss in the band. That really was Kiss saying farewell. What this video is depicting is a revenue-generating circus act that Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley want to use and abuse for as long as they possibly can. I first saw Kiss August 12th 1977 in the Seattle Center Coliseum on their love gun tour, with Cheap Trick as the opening act. That was a rock and roll show, and then some. What this video is to me is nothing like what I saw, and shouldn't be happening in the first place. I still have my KISS farewell tour t-shirt from that show. I have VHS videos of every show on the American tour.

Some people's voices do NOT act very kindly to them while taking opium. I've seen a few singers voices dry completely out from just a couple tabs a day nevermind that harder types of opium based pain meds. I was very lucky, they didn't affect me but a very good friend of mine can't sing a lick if he takes even the weakest prescribed.
