Agreed love the way eric double drums. Too bad gene and paul dont let him do it anymore because they want to recreate the old “kiss” sound when all i hear is band thats tuned down because paul cant sing anymore
yeah..why is that..i THINK they moved into the heavy metal scene early 80's for the record sales..as it was the new big rock scene..made sense money wise but think they get rubbed out of the led zeps, sabbeth, slade and other groups of that era cos of it
I've seen KISS live several times. Including before they took off the makeup, during the 80s, this tour, and the Reunion tour. This Revenge tour ranks right there, very heavy, and the show I saw ran a solid 2 hours, 20+songs. Great tour
Totally Agree I would have been happy with this lineup to have continued. Best lineup apart from the original The 2 records they made... Revenge and Carnival Of Souls were great albums I thought, not perfect albums but still great, I think this band could have done something great musically
Eric Singer on drums, as Eric Carr had died the previous year. Singer was and still is a consummate pro, with a very tight and fill-happy style. He may not match Peter Criss' groove, but Singer is so technically proficient it's hard to find fault in his playing!
They were planning on the reunion especially with makeup all the way back during the Crazy Nights tour. For starters, Paul and Gene were asking Ace to rejoin the group but he declined. The song Crazy Nights had a lot of old 70's Kiss tunes in it.
This is the best musicianship era. Kulick approach was similar to Singer. Just know your shit. They took it to next level. Made gene and Paul better. Tight af here!
@@petercriscuola I get it. Originals would have been the perfect story. But, if you couldn't see the vid you must at least hear the audio and performance is just about perfect on "watching you".
That statement is exactly right technically this is kiss at their best listen to Revenge Kiss Alive 3 or Carnival of Souls the classic lineup could not touch this lineup the original four or my favorite but in no way are they better than this line up
I saw this tour in Atlanta, about 2 weeks before this show was filmed. IMO, this tour was the best they ever sounded. They got the song tempos right, great set lists, and I thought Singer played perfectly. Also, Paul and Bruce going back to playing vintage guitars instead of those god-awful, trendy 80s guitars that sounded so screechy made all the difference.
They got their balls back. 80's KISS sucked so bad it ain't funny. I saw them twice during that era in a 10k seater with about 2k there. You could literally walk to the front of the stage and not run into anyone. Sad and painful era.
I've seen KISS several times, always with original members but never got to see them on this tour. I wish I had. They sounded great, looked great...what a lineup.
Saw them on this tour and truly amazing because previous tours featured shorter setlists and only "classic" older songs. I remember the disbelief when they were playing all of these AWESOME songs from the past.
These shows ran pretty long. Saw them in Worcester, MA on this tour and I want to say with encores and stuff over 2.5 hours. Saw them on crazy nights tour in 87 and from start to final encore not even 90 minutes.
Gene and paul have always been really good musicians too. They wrote all this stuff, and have adapted really well through all decades. Singer and kulick id say freshened things up with talent and work ethic.
This is my favorite era of the entire band. The band is just so tight and the set list is perfection. The original band was amazing, but for me.. The revenge era can't be beat.
Phah King agreed! I checked out from KISS at Unmasked and wanted nothing to do with them through the 80’s. A friend bought my ticket for this tour and I was blown away. I’ve been back with them ever since.
With Eric Carr gone and Singer in, the tempo is slowing. The amazing late 80's shows is where musically Kiss were at their prime. Paul Stanley's voice is on a slow slope of no return at this point. The fans at this point were longing for the old looking Kiss, the unmasked era brought some of the best songs, but Gene and Paul knew this experiment to stay fresh was wearing thin at this stage.
?? This is them returning to form. Eric Carr, God rest him, was a terrible choice for KISS. He rushed like crazy and his drums sounded so weak live. Eric Singer is a world class drummer and had already played with Sabbath and Alice Cooper by this point. This era here totally set the stage for a demand for a reunion. Revenge sold big numbers in contrast to the sad 80's era band (Creatures had some good tunes but that was the last one). 80's shows are painful to watch for us 70's kids - I've tried.
@@countvond233 I have a weird thought about both eras that contradict everything both of y’all said. Simply put, Eric Carr too me was a phenomenal drummer, just had the wrong spot in KISS at the wrong time. If Eric Carr had lived long enough, to see the 90s Revenge Era, he could’ve been on A game, I always loved his heavy drum sound on record, and yea it sounds a bit paper thin live, but I think his studio sound was great. Eric Singer is a great drummer, but he’s too perfect for KISS imo, what always made KISS cool is they didn’t feel the need to perfect their sound, they were ok with it being a bit sloppy sometimes, which Eric doesn’t have, and didn’t play as fast as Eric Carr. To me, I take interest to drummers who have creative drum parts, or play fast, which Peter Criss & Eric Carr had weighing over Eric Singer right from the jump.
When Eric Carr first joined the band back in 1980. His drumming was pretty natural, good, and heavy. But by 84 during the Animalize tour, his drumming went to shit by moving too fast and all over the place at the same time. It's almost as if he was showing off more than he was actually playing the songs.
Watchin' You was always an interesting song vocally. In the early days Gene sang the first verse alone then Paul joined in for the rest of it. Here they sing it all together and by the reunion tour Gene was doing the verses solo. Excluding the 3 drummers and Paul all singing lead on Black Diamond at times, Cold Gin is the only other Kiss song that I can think of that saw that many vocal differences between the "traditional" version, the 1980 tour and then the reunion tour.
It boggles my mind that the time from Love Gun in 1977 to Revenge a 1992 was only 15 years, while the time from 1992 to 2023 is 31 years😳 I consider Revenge to be a more recent album 😁
I would say Eric overplays some here, which I'm guessing is sorta of what you meant. Idk if it's b/c the songs are uber simple or he's bored or what, but there are A LOT of unnecessary fills.
Arthur Bishop I know... But I do like this style (mostly for a Change). It gives the classic Kiss songs here a laid back 70's feel (think Frampton or Grand Funk Railroad). Until I heard (or saw) this I never realized how much affect a different drum style could have. Cool.
