Today we finally went to the DEATH ROAD
The Death Road, officially known as the North Yungas Road, is a perilous route in Bolivia that stretches about 64 kilometers from La Paz to Coroico. It has earned its chilling nickname due to its notoriously dangerous conditions. The road is extremely narrow, with barely enough room for two vehicles to pass, and is often enveloped in fog. The surface is mostly loose gravel, which increases the risk of vehicles skidding off the road.
One of the most daunting features of Death Road is its sheer drop-offs. The lack of adequate guardrails means that a mistake or vehicle malfunction can result in a catastrophic fall down the steep slopes, which has contributed to a high accident rate over the years.
Despite these dangers, Death Road has become a popular destination for adventure tourists, especially for mountain biking. Many tour companies offer guided biking experiences along the road, providing safety gear and experienced guides to help mitigate the risks.
In recent years, a new and safer road has been constructed, significantly reducing the amount of traffic on the original Death Road. Today, the old road primarily caters to thrill-seekers and is managed to ensure safety for tourists.
