Well the good news is my binge watching now puts me into the same year as you are now actually building, albeit six months behind real time. I am confident 2024 will be a good year for you after the body blow of the end of 2023. You are a great team and you are engaged on a worthy goal - best of luck for 2024.😀👍⛵️

I have to finally jump onboard and comment. I recently came across your channel and watched every episode from the beginning. You guys are inspirational. Great videos and content. Much like you, I am an avid creator and builder of whatever cross's my mind or intrigues me, that being cars, boats, trailers. etc. I have always dreamed of building a catamaran. But of coarse there has always been the question of where, when and how could I finance such an adventure. As I have gotten older I have come to a place where my focus in life has been to escape. Sell everything and break the chains that bind me to this world of rules and regulations, Property and tax's. Get out of this rat race and focus on enjoying the time I have left. Whats a better way then a catamaran to do that. I am only 53 but living with cancer. A battle I have accepted and plan to fight for a long time. Your channel, for me is watching a loving couple (and Brian) plan and execute their escape . Your devotion, focus and persistence to your goal is amazing. I too, have many times faced the constraints of social parameters stepping on my dreams. Being told what I can and cant do with my own property. Building a 3 family house in an R3 zone with permits, then being told upon final inspection it cant be a 3 family. Having to rip a spray booth out of a shop (in a commercial zone) because of a misinterpretation of vague zoning laws. Getting shut down building a trailer in a "residential" area and having to watch it rot, then being forced to cut it up and put it in a dumpster. I could go on and on. So you can see why the dream of building a catamaran has always been a mountain to high. Too exposed to hide. I will probably buy one, one that needs work of coarse! Watching your channel has been inspirational. This last set back with the tunnel tent hit me hard. I just wanted to tell you, you have fans that want you to see this through. You both seem like good people trying to escape and live the dream. I really want to see that happen, for you and for all of your fans that are watching and inspired but your tenacity. Thank you and hopefully our paths cross someday on a tropical island living the dream

Thanks for the kind words! One of the reasons we spend all the time making these videos is in hopes we inspire others to follow their dreams... possibly on a Solitaire 1520, but on any sailboat, mono or cat. Building one yourself is a lot to take on, we wish we could have found another way, but this was the only route to the catamaran we want at a price we could afford. Still, two years of construction (or whatever it takes) will go by swiftly and then we'll be out on the water having our adventure! We would love to share an anchorage with you some day in the future. You'll always know where we'll be, since we plan to keep making videos of the entire circumnavigation... and beyond.

Good to see that you are back to progressing on the build. Such a loss of time with the tunnel tent and container fiasco... Word of caution though, if I may, those table frames you built were never intended to carry heavy loads, but now that you have so much stacked on them, there is a real possibility that they might collapse because there are no diagonals preventing the uprights from "buckling". If the table were to get bumped it could collapse...

Fortunately, the foam panels are very light.

Good progress despite all your set backs. The tables need some 45 degree bracing on them or there going to fold over and trap some one under them.

Just wanted to make sure your new larger BMS aren't the new faulty JK models that I've been hearing loose settings when disconnected for a few days and default to 4.2V charge voltage that will destroy LiFePO4.

How would I know?
@CraigOverend

@@SailingSVLynx I'm not sure, I've just seen two RU-vid channels talking about the problem, Off-grid Garage said he tested his by disconnecting it for a few days and it lost its settings.

I looked at his episode, that's not the BMS we are using.

I know all about the nightmares of Real Estate for boat building/refitting. Short version: defrauded on a piece of Real Estate in Brunswick Georgia just 1 1/2 miles from the Landings marina, which would have been a left and right another left and onto the property. Unfortunately constantly harassed by neighbors who've been waiting for decades for the lot to go up for sale and never knew it was put up on the internet for sale. As said short version I got run off by the natives. BTW I'm a New Yorker so to them I'm automatically a yankee. BTW my refit is off a 50' trimaran with a 28'beam that was refitted once before from a regular open beam with trampolines between the main hull and amas to a bridge deck tri similar to a Norman Cross and my refit will convert it towards the Neel trimarans. Once I purchase a new vacant lot I'll start my channel.

@SailingSVLynx BTW, one of the projects on my list is to reglass my hulls and deck because I found some delamination. Thanks to seeing you do yours with Basalt, I did a bunch of research on Basalt and decided to go with Basalt instead of fiberglass for so many different reasons. Something I've noticed with basalt is that it seems to have a lower pitch sound when something makes contact with it. I'm so curious about the sound of rain when it hits the basalt compared to a fiberglassed deck and cabin top. The no electrical conductivity of Basalt is a nice plus.
@SailingSVLynx
@SailingSVLynx 9 месяцев назад
Yeah, we think basalt is an excellent choice for lamination.

I like your project and I wish I had energy like you in your age. But I have to say, your hour calculation is way off the reality. You are now in about 5 to 10 % of the complete build ... Sorry about that. Just want to bring some real experience numbers. I will finish my small 24 ft catamaran this year and start to build 11 m catamaran next year.
