To be fair to the guy, he did look so tired by the end. I always thought it was because the character was tired but to hear otherwise does make a lot of sense.

In my opinion, when you take individual scenes from the last season, take the context and character building of past seasons out, they're actually quite good scenes just in terms of little tid bits. But when you put context to the characters in their scenes, the building up to their arcs and the context of scenes preceding and after said scenes (lmao warp ur brain); Every single damn scene becomes completely cringe, badly written, and fan fictioney.. I think kit really means to say is the show runners and writers were burnt out mostly.

Not having any more seasons in you is fine. 8 seasons was always enough. It's the writing of the last few seasons that became so ridiculous is was laughable - the character arc destroyed, continuity issues and so on. So, yes, mistakes were made...mistakes that make it really hard for me to rewatch any of it because I know how bad it gets. Seasons 1-4 were incredible. I still would like to see three series: One about the First Men and the Long Night One about Aegon the Conquerer And ESPECIALLY The Tourney of Harrenhal/Robert's Rebellion. All of these NON-animated.

I honestly believe the backlash wouldn’t have been as strong if season 7 and 8 had been full seasons. They still would have felt somewhat rushed, but the storyline would have been allowed to breathe more.

I’m sure all the actors who haven’t had several unsuccessful shows/movies (and giant paychecks) like Kit are thrilled they didn’t get two more seasons and several million more dollars.

I understand not many agree with me and that’s absolutely fair to each their own, but I genuinely liked HOTD both seasons so far. I am a normie and haven’t read the books my only info from the books comes from RU-vid videos and with that minimal understanding I think including all the things that happened in the books or exactly the way George wrote it is just too much for a tv show. The changes didn’t I heard a lot of RU-vidrs mention didn’t make my experience any less enjoyable while watching the show and didn’t undermine the story for me. His take on what happened with the 'Snow' sequel is interesting. GRRM says it was Kit's idea. Everything else I've heard or read about it, says it was Ki'ts idea and he even brought his own team of writers to the table. He's THE ONLY ONE that I've heard say it was HBO's idea and that THEY came to HIM with it.

I'd like to think that no one involved in movies and tv-shows this large really want to produce anything shit. They might quite often bite a bit more they can chew, and run out of money/time/manpower/whatever, but they don't underperform on purpose. This interview raised my respect on Kit a lot.

They may have been tired but the sets, the action, most of the direction and the actors doing those gruelling shoots still were great… the thing that wasn’t was the writing…

I think HOT D is doomed from the start. If they followed what GRRM wrote, non-book readers and casuals will also get pissed on what the writers did to Rhaenyra thinking it’s no different than Dany. People saying Rhaenyra is their Queen only to realize she isn’t the Queen they thought they knew. The Dance only lasts two years. I honestly thought it could’ve been finished in 30 episodes in 3 seasons of 10 episodes each. S1 could’ve been told in 5 episodes. Then once we get to the Aegon/Rhaenyra scene which might be the only time they ever interact, the show ends. You can’t continue the show after the main characters are gone. We’re already 18 episodes into this series and it just feels like Rhaenyra and Alicent are forgetting what’s happening to their children or grandchildren and they’re playing around. It’s not war. It’s Capture the Flag. How could Rhaenyra meet Alicent an episode later after there was an assassination attempt on her life? And not once did she even mention it. One of the aspects I love about Game of Thrones was how much I enjoyed several characters. I remember ranking about 50 of my favorite characters from both GOT and HOT D combined and 80% came from GOT. And about 85% from my top 20 which means I like about 17 GOT characters out of the first 20. What made GOT shine were the side characters like Bronn, Tormund, and Davos. Bronn wasn’t even in the books and Jerome Flynn portrays him like Errol Flynn in Robin Hood if he turned into a mercenary who curses a lot. S1-S4 Tyrion is probably more likable than any character in HOT D and that includes Daemon. I honestly don’t know what the writers will do to Daemon because it almost feels like they want us to hate their version of him when he’s really the only charismatic character in the series. Watch us end up hating every single character in the show and realizing this was a big waste of time watching 4 seasons of drivel in 8 years! Pretty much every major character dies and even someone you might feel is morally good like Helaena or Simon Strong won’t have a happy ending. If they do go by the book, it’s going to upset people because many are already attached to Rhaenyra like they were to Daenerys. If they don’t go by the book, people will still get upset thinking this is some silly Wattpad fanfic by Condom/Mess. One of the writers already feels like she’s HOT D’s version of Leslye Headland who’s really an activist pretending to be a writer and GRRM fangirl trying to draw W scenes for her LGBT community. Then we got Warner Bros. in debt and a lot of these battles won’t come cheap. Imagine it takes maybe 1.5 years to complete Avengers: Doomsday. But that’s only 2.5-3 hours. HOT D has 8 hours of content if it’s 8 episodes. That’s painfully long to film a season and they’re not filming it until next year. I say real filming for a big budget movie like Doomsday would be 2-3 months. But it took HOT D S2 from April to Sept of last year. That’s 5 months but you saw what we got. About 4 hours of nothingburgers. Now imagine when we get battle after battle? I think this show will end up being another disaster where we pretty much hate every character or feel indifferent except for maybe Daemon although I won’t be surprised if we all ended up hating him too, and it was 8 years of wasting time waiting to cover 4 seasons for an overrated part of Targaryen history where we hardly saw a war or dragons fighting each other. I’m already pissed with the White Walker callback in Daemon’s weirwood vision because it’s a bad reminder of how GOT S8 ended and how a little Stark girl with only 2 years of training will save them from the big, bad Night King. That was 8 years of hyping up the White Walkers and they got killed off by a little Stark girl who kept getting beaten up by the Waif only 2 seasons prior. Daemon saying winter is coming in High Valyrian was cringey af. Let the two dueling queens focus on the war at hand. Who gives a fuck about a threat that will happen 200 years later? And even if the current characters in HOT D believe Daenerys is The Prince Who Was Promised or even Jon, they’re going to have shitty endings anyway! Dany is going to die after helping Winterfell with her dragons. Jon gets a slap on the wrist and gets his first job back but without any more White Walker threats. Going back to GOT callbacks is a waste of time because how badly it ended. Two dueling queens having civil meetings and forgetting that one of their kins just died and then have sex with a Kingsguard or make out with her husbuncle’s former lover. I hardly saw Alicent grieve. One of the queens forgot she could’ve been killed an episode earlier but never mentions it to the other. Then you take GRRM’s favorite Targ and turn him into a soy boy and giving him worthless GOT callbacks that only left a sour taste in our mouths thanks to S8. I have lost faith in HBO. They will hype up a certain aspect of the story like “winter is coming” for years only to undeliver once again by the time it’s over. Rhaenyra starts acting like a bitch. She’s killed. THE END. Viewers by 2028: WTF was that? Did I just rewatch what happened to Dany all over again? Man, fuck this show. Daemon will be the equivalent to Qimir / The Stranger / Smilo Ren in The Acolyte where he’s the only character worth it to watch and literally carries the show. Ok, maybe Aemond is cool to watch too. They’re the Final Fantasy characters, right? Guys will cosplay as them and buy merch of them. Their Battle Above the Gods Eye would be equivalent to Battle of Mustafar that I first heard about in the late 90s only to be so psyched to finally see it by Revenge of the Sith. But who knows if HBO screws up that scene? Who gives a damn what happens 200 years later? Just focus on the war at hand.

Exhausted? Tired?? Kit & other main actors made so much money making this thing, especially in the later seasons, cry me a fkin river! That's what they get paid for, and this is a very seasonal job with plenty of opportunities for vacations & to recharge. Kit wouldn't have been nearly as famous without GOT. Being tired is not an excuse to half-ass it when you're being paid more than most people make in years of full-time labour (imagine how tired they are). Boo hoo

But we didn't ask for spectacle. We asked for GOT. There was no reason for them to be that tired at the end. GOT is character driven and at its best like the first season. They didn't need those month long battle shoots

season 8 would have been acceptable if they just finished up each charters arc the right way even if it was rushed, jon kills the night king, arya kills cersi then jon kills danny, bran becomes king. Is that the best ending no, but it would not have received half the hate it did.

Say the Night King was just an underling and the big baddie was still out there (Great Other), it might be interesting. Jon and Tormund investigate, interact with all the different wildling tribes, and eventually find the heart of winter to fight the dude. I may watch that if it was done well.

There's gonna be cars and factories and plastic soup in the narrow sea, but people will still use swords, sit on iron thrones, ride dragons and get visions about white walkers, so we as viewers know we are watching game of thrones.

Well, it's nice of Kit Harrington to admit the failure of the season 8. However, as far as Jon Snow sequel goes, the cancellation doesn't bother me at all. I mean, for the spinoff, sequel or prequel to be succesful, you really need a team of proven writeres and someone with vision. Like Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould. After Breaking Bad had ended on the high note (and, mind you Breaking Bad had kind of two great endings - first being the ending of season 4 and then the series finale), many fans were not sure the prequel would be a good idea. And, somehow the writers managed to create even more heartbreaking stories, and add some incredible depth. And now, I get the impression that HBO wants to somehow fix the horrible GOT finale with HOTD's retake on white walkers. First, they wanted to do this with Jon Snow sequel, but, obviously, they didn't have the material, so they turned to Fire and Blood, because, while it is not as good as other ASIOAF books, it still is George's stuff. But then, they have to insert their own ideas and here we go again... heading towards disaster. But I wouldn't blame the screenwriters much. George's ideas and characters are often incredibly cringy. They are also repetitive so it take much skill and talent to adapt them.

I still want that 'Snow' sequel of Jon and Tormund (and Ygritte's twin/ghost) traveling the North coast of Essos. They hear about some White Walker-like threat (maybe Children of the Forest created more than one), but, as they travel to face it, they also get caught up in a bunch of fun adventures. And of course in the end, Arya and the dagger save the day, as she has sailed so far West that she's now in the East.

And then I watch Peter Dinklage on Andrew Schulz's podcast, and he still defending D&D through and through. Tyrion is the bad guy, always has been, always will be.

got jon snow. jon travels to the north, where he finds the cave of the three eyed raven. he begins to explore it when deep deep within its recesses, he finds a giant that looks remarkably like george rr martin. becoming fast friends, or so we think, jon convinces the giant to venture out for the first time in a few centuries when to everyones shock and horror, up on exiting, the giant grabs jon by the legs and bashes his head into the weirwood tree. the wildlings shrug, and the giant shows the wildlings how to make weirwood paste. FIN.

I know everyone was tired but as the show got bigger, shouldn’t the staff and crew grow to keep up with it? I saw the behind the scenes for the last season and yeah everyone was exhausted, but like if this show brings so much money like hire more people to help. If they would have kept the plot lines from the books, the later seasons would have had as many or more characters as the earlier seasons did. So, like in the earlier seasons, characters would need to have less scenes. A lot of the main characters would only be in half the episodes in earlier seasons, for example. So the actors would not have been fatigued, like they were at the end because they would have filmed significantly less scenes.

Well there are 3 cannons now: Book, Got and HoTD and they are all different from one another. So I think the only way to go forward for a GoT sequel is forget that GoT seasons 7 & 8 ever existed. Then somehow find a compelling ending to the Dunk & Egg stories, Summerhall, Blood Raven, etc., using them and at least TWOW (if it ever gets published) and converging them into this new HoTD reality. It might also be the only way HoTD can survive the mess HBO created for the ending of S2 through to Robert's Rebellion and the birth of Dany's dragons. History is rewritten all the time. Harrenhal/Riverlands is ALWAYS where the most shit happens and the God's Eye is where the Others, Children of The Forest, Men come together. If HBO crashes and burns messing this up, then just blame Blood Raven!

Obviously, as has been talked about a lot before, actors are just generally reluctant to talk shit about past productions they've been involved with because who would want to work with them then? You don't want a reputation as someone who bad-mouths directors and showrunners and such.

Exhausted? Seriously. Like HOTD, there was a LONG time between seasons. I feel like it was more the lifestyle you live before and after filming that left you 'exhausted.'

The thing with all these shows is that they are controlled by rich corporations who get subscriptions. So a show that's gone very long isn't bringing in any new subs.

As an actor or anyone involved in any production you cannot talk shit about the show even if you think it was terrible. Who would want to hire you, right? Shooting of the long night was made intentionally difficult due to Dumb and Dumber's decision, it was a horrorshow for everyone involved. No wonder they felt all spent.

People blame S8 too much, sure it wasn't all around great but there was still bits of brillance in it... like all seasons since the 5th. That's the one thing fan forget, S8 didn't fell of a clif alone, the show's quality was on a downward trend way before.

At this point, actors should just answer people who ask why S8 was bad as "our fatass author can't finish a book to save his life, wtf do you want from D&D and HBO?" lmaooo.

I think we may have to accept that for epics of this scale to be adapted in the way we would like, we have to be willing to swap actors at certain points. I know it would be jarring to have two different actors for one main character over the course of a single series, but it might be the best course of action outside animation. The same goes for D&Ds stubbornness in passing the writing torch. Yes its their baby, but look how people view them now. Imagine spending an actual decade of your life inside fake HBO sets of westeros lol, that'll have you losing your marbles. Im not sure what the answer is, but I have sympathy everyone except D&D themselves.

I think it's undeniably true that making this show was an incredibly gruelling experience. The Dragon Demands would probably say that more experienced show runners would have been able to ameliorate it. I'd still like to see a sequel even if The Snow Show is off the table.
