There is a theory that during the Taiho era (701-704), the founder of Shugen , Enno-Gyoja-Ozunu, danced while chanting Nembutsu in order to spread Nembutsu, and another theory is that during the Daido era (806-810), the Buddhist priest of Mt. Haguro danced.・It is said that it began as a nenbutsu dance for exorcising evil spirits and for the salvation of sentient beings at Zengyo-in Koutaku Oniwatashi Daimyojin Shrine.
