It's not as powerful as I thought it would be, but it works very well. ru-vid.comUgkxGjG43--gYqIoT4Xkur2PqCrtbKwTv2h There are three options to circulate air, and best of all a remote control for us lazy people. Installation was a breeze (no pun intended). It actually took longer to open the box then it did putting the side extenders on and sitting it in the window opening. It's a perfect alternative when you want airflow, but not the AC. Just might order another one for a different room. UPDATE: Bought another one like I said. They work great. Why not have two...

I have a much faster way to clean your filters. Fill your sink up with very very very hot water. I boil my kettle and use the hot water from there. To that add a quarter of a cup of Borax. Let it sit there for about 15-30 minutes. After soaking for the suggested time, put on a pair of thick rubber gloves and drain the sink. Rinse your filters under warm water, they should be sparkling clean. If you like or need, you can do a second application. I guarantee this will have your filters looking like they are brand new. Best part is there’s no elbow grease involved. Give it a try, you’ll be glad you did.

I just wanted to mention, if you take your filter, put it in your cookie sheet, then spray it with heavy duty oven cleaner, leave for 15 minutes, give it a scrub with the toothbrush, it will all come off without etching the filter. Also, you can do the same method and use Simple Green or Pine Sol, leave it in it over night and all the grease will be separated from the filter by morning. Also, just a tip, scrub the filter a bit before you rinse with water, this loosens up everything and more will come off. Simple Green all purpose cleaner and Pine Sol also work for stripping paint off plastics without ruining the plastic underneath. I use these cleaners to strip paint from plastic model kits that have been painted by a child and the result is a fresh, out of the box model kit. Cheers

I was an apartment repair man. Sometimes it is impossible to find a replacement range hood filter that fits if the range hood is very old. Custom ones can be made to fit but that's expensive. Just put the filter in a broiler pan outside and flood it with ammonia. A few hours later rinse it out and it will look almost new.

Just tried it. Works fantastically well. I saturated just one side and let it soak for a couple hours while I ran some errands. You could see the difference even before rinsing. I laid it in the sink and blasted it good with hot water from the sink sprayer. It got almost every single bit. Looks about 99% new. And no suds or soap mess to deal with at all. Thank you very much.

Great information about this product. I'm glad to have found this video. One thought, the drains might accumulate the grease and for those that have septic systems, this amount of grease might that up too, so it might be best to do it outside on the lawn or somewhere similar.

Now, those of you folks that have a G.E. SpaceSaver Under-the-Counter Microwave oven - above that filter is a plastic grille. From the outside, the grille sits just above the door. It has two clips that press-fit into slots. There are only 2 screws holding it. Screw those out and the grille should pop right out with little coaxing. Cleaning this grille in situ is a bear. You must to remove it and set it in a basin where you can scrub it. Justin's method also works for that. I added a another step - CAREFUL - I use boiling water for each rinse after I worked the grilles over 3x with a stiff-bristle plastic hand brush and dish soap, like he did. I never had success before, but this came out nice. I considered setting them out overnight in an ammonia bag, but I didn't know how ammonia would affect the plastic grille, so I opted for this method because dish soap is safe.

Another thing to try is spray on oven cleaner(lye soap). However it may be hard on the aluminum. The dishwasher detergent method may be the best, it looks great in this video. It's great seeing people reuse stuff instead of throwing away. This filter is aluminum metal, made to be cleaned and reused over and over again.

When facing my dirty range hood filters I did a quick search on RU-vid tutorials. I found very little useful information - myths, half-truths, false facts and even intentionally misleading information. The method shown in this video is one of the better ones. Here's my contribution as a chemical engineer: The residue in the filters consists of vaporised oils and fats plus a number of their break-down products. The smelly, sticky goo is made up of a mix of dozens of chemicals, most of which are hydrophobe (= repelled by or not soluble in water). Solution 1: an industrial hydrocarbon based solvent (= degreaser). This is a very harsh method (vapors, flammability, may damage plastic components, not environmentally friendly) Solution 2: Caustic Soda (NaOH) + Fat = Soap! As soap happily dissolves in water this should get rid of the fatty components (Caution: NaOH is a dangerous chemical - protect your hands andd eyes, always add the chemical in small fractions to lots of cold water. NaOH is readily available as drain cleaner) Solution 3: surfactants (make oil, fat and water "mix") and enzymes (break down fats and other organics into smaller molecules). A very powerful product is laundry powder (with or without enzymes), it is optimised to get dirt out of a fine mesh. You can also get biological drain cleaners containing enzymes (quite expensive but environmentally friendly). With enzymes, only use warm water for best results. Solution 4: fancy cleaning products (there are dozens of more or less specialised products on the market which are often overly expensive and not necessarily guaranteed to do the job). Note: with all of the above, higher temperatures (chemical reactions will speed up exponentially), longer soaking times plus a little elbow grease will help the process. Procedure: I prefer Solution 3 - use an adequately sized rectangular bucket, dissolve laundry powder in warm water (you may need 2 or more measuring cups depending on the grease load!), submerge the filters and swash them round for a while. The water will turn brown instantly and the filters begin to shine. Leave them in the solution for at least 30 minutes. Swash around again, brush around the edges if necessary then discard the solution. Rinse at least 3 times or until the water becomes clear. Dry before putting back into range hood. For extremely dirty filters you may have to repeat the procedure or just clean the filters at a shorter interval in the future. If you range hood has an hour counter, 30 to 50 operating hours is a reasonable number. My simplified list is by no means exhaustive but I hope I have dispelled some myths - Happy Cleaning!

I have 2filters in my range hood that I want to clean so thank you for the tip of using the Palmolive dish soap cause I've been buying expensive cleaner so this is definitely worth trying.

Doesn’t grease clog up the drain after while?

Just wondering why anyone would wait 12 long years before cleaning the filters???? It doesn't take much to clean them every month. And you can just toss them into the dishwasher if you don't want to clean them by hand.

Wet the item put the dishwasher soap on it let it sit but before you rinse it off scrub it first once you rinse it the cleaning agent is gone so scrub it before you rinse it you'll get better results

I was thinking on halfway filling that rectangular tray with water with detergent, put that filter, put it on top of the stove, and let it boil. I think the hot temp would facilitate the old dirty grease removal.

Peeps who tried it please let us know if it worked. This guy has links to these products so I'm skeptical. Don't hate me! 😁

Even quicker cleaning is with Dawn Powerwash. Lay the filter in the sink, give each side a good spray. Let it sit for a minute or two, then a quick scrub with an old toothbrush on each side & rinse. Looks brand new in under five minutes.

I just did 2 filters at a house I inherited, all I did was dip them in boiling water, & the were clean as a whistle. No scrubbing or anything. Then I dumped the water outside.

Wow 12 years of grease! Although I haven't done mine in 6 months & It's half as bad, probably because I'm a smoker & I'm sure the smoke would also escape through the fan too. Obviously I'm searching for better methods so I can clean it 2day remembering how long I had to scrub them b4.

those filters are made of metal, i just put them between the dishes in my dishwasher machine. I just add 1 extra cube of detergent and i put the machine on the hottest setting. Works perfectly and you can use the same method for periodical cleaning.

The grease, oil and other chemicals won't accumulate if the range hood is diligently wiped with dishwashing soap after cooking. It's easier that way to maintain the cleanliness than cleaning all the gunk and goop coz the worst dirt is the one underneath the metal mesh which is the pad. The grease is so hard to come off. Maybe you'll have a better luck than I did. 😊

Go to auto store buy gunk or engine grease remover ,spray it on the caked up filter (outside ventilated area ) then garden hose it. No scrubbing No grease getting into the drainage and later clogging problem.Simple.
