Once you get a set of those airbags you always questions yourself as to how you managed with out them, so handy for various things. Not sure about you but I always get a lot of satisfaction after fitting a kitchen, I think it’s my favourite thing after roofing! 👌🏻

Ive been using those air bags for a good while now but they have an issue with deflating on their own. Ive stuck with winbag despite ALL of them doing the same. Somehow they must get dust kn them which just effecvthe seal and thus they let air out. Wouldn't be without them for hanging doors, fitting windows, opening up gaps, etc etc. But slightly annoying for them to deflate at the wrong moment. Certainly wouldn't trust my winbags for more than 20 seconds holding.....
@@jonbarrie7002 Hi John🖐I have a few of the Winbags and haven't had a problem like you describe🤔I did have a leak in one though, and I must have worn it out of put it on something sharp😵 There must be a one way valve in the pump, and that might be faulty🤔Pretty cheap to replace, so not bad if one goes down. I've also got some Trend ones which are good and were cheap👍Cheers Del
I do love your videos Del, they have a unique style than many others, your so down to earth a true naturalist and explain everthing from roofing to 2nd fixing very well. I love Skillbuilder and Robin Clevett's work aswell, and if it wasn't for them I may not of found and followed your vids. But yours I have to say have a more raw natural feel to them, which I think makes you stand out and a big favourite to everyone from professionals to armatures. Great work Del, looking forward to part two. Another way to the the end panels, flush on top is to fix a KD Block into top of panel and let it sit on top of the unit, perfect every time.

Nice to see your kitchen units are well thought out and fit better than the roof trusses. Like that corner piece. Just installed a flat pack kitchen with the same corner detail only they gave you nothing to transition the corner. Had to fabricate a bit myself. The other thing I see they still do in UK is the stand off for pipes etc. behind the unit which can also be used to scribe. We don't get that. The backs are flat to the wall. Fine on a new all square house but useless on an old Queenslander. The other thing we often get is wrapped panels and doors. They don't like being scribed. If you cut through the wrap it wants to peel back. It just falls off like the skin it is. Again not good for old out of level houses. You would think the sheet would be stuck to the board but every one I have had to cut just peels off. Don't do many kitchens here. Kitchen fitting is a Trade on its own. They call them cabinet makers. Being English this makes me think of bespoke furniture makers not guys that make chipboard cupboards. But each to their own.

Hi there🖐I purposely steer clear of those sorts of jobs, but when doing them in the past I bring all the units away from the walls on packed out horizontal battens and then scribe in the end panels back to the wonkey walls👍Cheers Del

Hi Del another great video again, when it comes to fitting kitchens/wardrobes I never have a tool pouch on me in case I slip/or someone drops and it surprised me and I could turn sharply and possibly damage the item's. also, I noticed that you have only 2 cordless drills to hand and changing bits from one to another to me is not preferred way I would work, this an observation only I have at least 4 on go at all times. Keep them coming, great to watch.
Hi Robert🖐Great comment and I am constantly aware when moving/lifting things that my pouch might damage them, so I do drop it off regularly👍(I guess I wear it all tge time out of habit being a general carpenter). And, again, you're spot on about having plenty of drills on the go when fitting, and I've got lovely little set of M12 Milwaukee drills just for kitchens, but I don't generally carry them on the van and forgot to put them on😖 Thanks for watching 😎 Cheers Del

ive just started a kitchen this week del. howdens kitchen. when i use a laser to level up i set the laser 20mm above what i want the cabinets to finish at. then i mark a little scrap offcut of whatever is handy. by the same 20mm. then use that each corner. works so well. also have you seen those kitchen fitters mate things? they are absolutely class for manouvering tower cabinets

I must get a set of them air bags, I have two viking arms that are great for lifting the units but no use to reach the back of the units. I was curious to know what size spacer you used to set the gables of the tall unit? Lovely job. That corner piece looks fantastic
Hi Dan🖐I have dedicated 23mm spacer that I use, but I couldn't find it that day, so I just used 2 bits of 11.5mm osb that were laying about 👊 The doors are a little under 22mm so leaving the panels forward 23mm leaves a tiny gap so the hinge side doesn't bind, and flapping side has a 1mm cusion/stopper on it👍Get yourself a couple of air bags bud, it'll change your world🤯Thanks for your comment 😎 Cheers Del
I did kitchens for 8 yrs Del! I was thinking about the 2-3 times I never had to scribe a tall wall panel or check measure guy didn’t just allow extra 25 mm on for fitting! Thinking you lucky bugger! Then 2 seconds later… ‘ I might have to shave this one a couple of mm…’ 😂👍🏻 Awesome kitchen company! Ours SUCKED! Bare cabinets! You had to hinge all doors on site, even make up drawer boxes and fit runners etc. it was a nightmare! Then fitting this crappy 6.5 mm ‘Granit’ sheet on top of either existing laminate ( makeover) or particle board if new. Miter front edge, colour match an epoxy and glue front edges on. If you could think about the hardest way possible to install a kitchen, that was their ‘specialty’ And as always though, you got GOOD! And FAST! and see if you can guess what they did about your install fee the quicker you got…🤔
Fitting those kitchens sounds as bad as pulling teeth bud😩and it's the age old story of the price diminishing the faster you get😵That's why I stopped working on price 20 years ago, as you just work harder and harder for the same money🤬Thanks for your comment 😎 Cheers Del
Great video. I'm just starting to fit my kitchen and was wondering about end panels at the junction with the plinths. I see you've cut the end panels at the bottom to take the plinths in this video but in other videos of yours you don't. Is it just a personal preference thing? For me I'll be fitting LVT click flooring after the kitchen is in so the end panels without the cut out wouldn't work I think.

Great video. Have you got a video on integrated dishwasher end panel I've got an integrated dishwasher on the end of a run of base units and was wondering the best way to install the right side panel to the floor i can fix it to the worktop and wall but the floor is something I've never done any ideas I'd be grateful.
If its a solid floor, then I would simply bond the bottom edge of the panel down using high performance adhesive💪 If its a laminate/floating floor, then I would use a couple of thin angle brackets/stretcher plates, one behind the plinth line and one towards the back👍Hope this helps🤞Cheers Del
I was taught to drill a clearance hole through one of the pieces of wood to be screwed together but I'm not sure people do that now when they're drilling pilot holes. What are your thoughts on this? Really enjoying your videos by the way.
Hi Mark🖐I have a tct countersink/clearance drill that I normally use, but I have found when screwing 18mm kitchen units together, that just a 2mm drill bit and 3.5 x 30 screws works fine and always pulls the units together without having to bury the head👍Appreciate you watching and thanks for your comment 😎 Cheers Del

If I have this correct, there is a niche formed where the corner unit is met by the returning cooker housing, and part of the worktop will be contained therein. I don’t see any wall units on the plan. I accept that there are always limiting factors and compromises in kitchen design, but would you say that this arrangement is uncommon in your experience ? This is not a criticism. I welcome any comments about this. Looking forward to Part 2, thank you, Del.
The layout of this kitchen is purely down to the design of the clients who are elderly and had a very clear idea what they wanted🤔Personally, given the size of the room, I would have gone for a completely different lay out👍I appreciate your honest comment, and thanks for watching😎Cheers Del
Hi Del, I was going to mention the same thing as Chris about the niche. I must admit I’ve done so many jobs where the customer wanted a certain design. Why not? They’re paying after all. I suppose you do the odd job where you design it as well. I get Howdens in as I know the designer and he is very good. The kitchen you’re fitting isn’t too dissimilar to the one I fitted not long ago. I think it was a Howdens’s Gleneldon. ( Not sure I spelt that right) anyway another spiffing video.

Hi Del, why do you cut off (or notch out) the bottoms of the end panels either side of the tall unit? Is it just personal preference that you like to see the plinths run seamlessly beneath all the units? I haven’t seen anyone do that before, usually the end panels run all the way to the floor. Hi Simon🖐I consider a few things when fitting full height end panels🤔In this particular instance, I think the panel going all the way to the floor would have made an awkward, tight little corner where the adjacent plinth run would have finished. I do prefer to see a seamless plinth line, as, with time, end panels at floor level take a beating . I had recently bought the 16g DeWalt 2nd fix nail gun, and it was body only, and also the drill, with case, charger and 2 small batteries, was only a few quid more than 2 batteries on thier own👊 I don't use it very often, but when I do, it's a lovely little tool👍Thanks for your comment and for watching 😎Cheers Del
Noob here, isn’t the tiling situation making it harder for things like the end panels to sit flat? Any reason why you didn’t tile after units were down? I understand that not tiling fully saves money

10mins 50 secs in and i've just noticed the best idea, cannot beleive i've struggled fitting those tall end panels in the past.😃 Such a simple way to support them and stop them sliding down. Nice one Del!!! On a side note, are your trainers/boots safety shoes or not. Trying to find some safety boots/trainers that are compfy and cannot find anything. What are those you're wearing please? @@thetallcarpenter it’s a tricky one sometimes to get the layout right. Having flipped 3 bungalows now we will always install eye level ovens but sometimes have to compromise on aesthetics to achieve this.
Could have fitted a modified tall unit above the corner base unit so the tall unit door opens above the worktop to get rid of that wasted area into the corner.
