I made an herb garden on the side of my house where nothing was growing except weeds. I lined it w river stones and put chopped up leaf mulch in it. It really turned out beautiful. It’s the perfect spot because it gets longer periods of shade and it’s super hot here in Texas.
I have put mint, lemon balm, oregano and a basil in pots and mixed them with my flower pots and I LOVE it: close to my kitchen and it looks so lush and green 💚💚💚
Thanks for sharing this gem Tony. My sage plants are workhorses and I really enjoy their flavor enhancements to my foods. I did recently install a garden dedicated to just herbs and went away for one week. Apparently it rained so much that upon my return it was filled with weeds. Gots to stay on top of the weeds.
We have a kitchen garden in pots on a nice cedar table I built for our back porch just outside the kitchen door. It is a joy having it. This is a brilliant video, Tony. I love your herb bed and it is not only going to give you great meals, but a thing of beauty to enjoy. Thanks for all your wonderful content.
Only thing that used to grown in the grow in my garden was rosemary so I’ve been adding home compost over time , now it’s the only thing that didn’t grow lol They like sandy poor soil House was built on ash landfill and sand
Herbs are a must in any garden. Can't make my tomato sauces without my Basil & Mint for my tea, Dill for my Pickled Gherkins etc. Herbs compliment my Veg
I was cruising through your videos, and just had to subscribe! I want a potato crop!! This year was my first little garden! I planted zucchini, cucumbers, and tomatoes! I'll be adding melons and scalloped squash, AND potatoes and other root produce! I'm very excited! And I'm also looking for help! Thank you! Jan ❤️ 🕊
Very nice herb garden - I have a heap of dirt in the middle of the garden from building a deck in the back of the house! At first I was mortified until I changed gears and started looking at it as a gift instead of a big pile of dirt. We ended up keeping the shape as dumped and lined the perimeter with red Angelus Block and beautiful local rocks from our mountain wash - it turned out really nice. I had an old bathtub I painted the sides flat white & top light royal blue - then planted it full of black sunflowers seeds and what a beauty!! I'm going to tier the rest of the island and grow herbs & flowers for my lovely birds, bees & butterflies❣️ Thank you for all your helpful videos!!!
Great video as allways Tony. I planted Parsley, Rosemary, Mint on my hedge as an experiment and it worked a treat as it has great drainage and wind protection and has given me extra growing space
@@simplifygardening I watch The Ice Age Farmer and adapt 2030 channells and both cover the systematic distruction of the food chain so I fear for my garden as food is going to get costly and scarce.
Here in the super cool and rainy Pacific Northwest my potted herbs are reconsidering their life choices…. Nothing that loves sunshine and warmth is thriving yet. Looks like summer is coming next week though, thankfully.
Spring onions will grow back for several years. Our Parsley not pulled came back this spring along with our sage. It gets very cold here. Handful of days last winter -15 F. The bonus is, many herbs defend against insect damage. Wood chips work great as a slug deterrent with all of their sharp edges. Do you have a video on drying herbs? TYFS Tony
Great video. Picked up some stuff I never knew. My herbs a generally doing well but I'm suffering terrible infestations of white fly (sap suckers) on several different variety of herb. Tried liquid soap and a couple of other home remedies but would love to hear about how to treat and manage on herbs outdoor. Thanks again
Get some SB plant invigorator that will sort the whiteflies I also have a full article on dealing with them on my website just type whitefly into the search on the website
@@simplifygardening Thanks ever so much I'll check that out. My mint is looking very poorly so appreciate your quick reply 👍. I'm just so wary of using pesticides these days (especially on herbs) I also have lots bees and pond life so avoid where I can. Thanks again.
Got some SB plant invigorator and used with some sticky fly traps and plants have massively improved. It's quite expensive and as I had a bad infestation required 2 full bottles which amounted to about 2 and 1/2 applications. Would recommend... my only criticism is the spray bottle design is a bit poor as it doesn't like being pointed downwards when less than half full. Surely most plants are on the ground? At least it made me try spray under the leaves to ensure all lurkers were covered. Thanks again.
I am laughing at the comment that dill has to be resown every year. In my experience, if you don't clip off all of the seed heads it will never need to be replanted for the rest of your life.
Hi, I'm a subscriber to your channel. Your videos are very informative. I'm growing potatoes in containers {first time growing potatoes) I noticed today the plants are just starting to start forming blooms. Should I pinch the blooms off? I've Googled, but not getting a clear answer. Thanks!
I'm fairly new to gardening, and especially gardening where I live. I'm looking into starting a herb garden here in Thailand, and apart from growing the native herbs here, I was wondering if I could grow some of the cooler climate herbs here, such as basil, Rosemary or Thyme?
Hi! I recently bought three bags of compost. I opened two of them and they both are covered in a splotchy white mold. Can I still use it? Maybe if I mix it around and let it dry out in the sun for a few days? Its for a variety of things, tomatoes, flowers , and some houseplants. I assume I shouldn't use it for germinating , right?
Tony can you tell me what the herb is at 2:25 on your video please? It’s a tall plant with small star like blue flowers? Is it related to borage? Thanks
my herb's want grow in the here , I think it's the dirt here , so I have tham in pots , but can someone tell me how how to take care of lavender , because I put it in soil and Sand and peal light and it still wants to die on and only water it every once in a while because I it doesn't like water that much so I don't know I guess lavender plants hate me , 😂
