My Mother made us (5. Kids) change rolls in the home. The boys did a month of inside work, I had to do outside work. I learned how to cut grass, check a roof on the house, clean a chimney and garden. Trash out to curb. The boys, they learned laundry, dusting, vacuuming and cleaning the home including toilets and mopping floors. Them she taught all of us to make one meal. When my brothers married, their wives were shocked at how they just “did what had to be done”. Me, I could care for my home without anxiety. My Mother was wonderful….she taught us all life lessons and none of us had problems living on our own
My husbands parents did the same with the 5 of them. The 3 boys are awesome cooks! They swapped every other week though. Their Dad was a great cook also.
Oh dear, we also just ran out of our concord jam! The kids aren’t happy about it, but my husband is the most upset. He has a pb&j everyday! I had to get some store-bought grape juice to make jelly that will hold us over until our grapes come in. There has never been a better generation to raise up this way…our children are going to need these skills and grit in the years to come. You are doing an amazing job and provide me with so much inspiration!
Jessica your children are no doubt, going to be the most prepared for life of people their age. The things you do with them are life lessons they will carry with them always. Wonderful mom!
I completely agree and will add I applaud Jessica’s patient and calm demeanor-speaking as a parent, I know it’s hard to stand back and let them work their way through the process of learning a task without intervening. It’s great she does though, the kids learn their own best way of doing things which may vary from Jessica’s method but works beautifully for them. Simply amazing parenting. 😊

@@gabrielamailow8526 I think I will always have Crohn's. There is no cure. But I have found healing. As long as I avoid my trigger foods and environmental triggers, I remain healed.

I just LOVE… seeing you & those Happy Babies… You make Homesteading look So Loving & Joyful. Seeing your Children in the videos working with you.. Makes my Heart Smile 🥰🥰🥰 I use the ForJars canning lids. Thank you for recommending them !!! This is my Second yr using the ForLids 😉 That Baby is definitely growing 🥰 Until the next one, Blessings to you & your Precious little family 😉💞
I love that your teaching your boys how to cook and do projects around the kitchen. I taught my boys from a young age how to make simple things like scrambled eggs and grilled cheese etc and built on it as they got older. There now in their 30s and married. Their wives really appreciate that they will cook dinner most night’s because their wives work long hours. I’m just so proud of them.😊
Jessica, you have the skills to be an excellent CEO.Your planning and fore thought are amazing.Your skills with your children's personalities, seems to keep them getting along with each other and constantly learning.I have a feeling your kids don't go around complaining of boredom.Oh, for more Moms that take their responsibility seriously.[I know the people watching this channel do.]
Is there anything more serene and beautiful than a sleeping baby? I used to watch mine sleeping until I was nervous I might wake them. 😂She’s growing so fast and is just as beautiful as all of your children. 😊
I read a wonderful comment about your channel on Simple Living Alaska channel. I was so excited as both your channels are educational, interesting, and never boring and most of all just plain fun. Thank you both for you content.
M mother always made scrap apple jelly whenever she made applesauce. She never used a Victorio strainer for applesauce because then she couldn’t make jelly from the peals and cores. Lots of winter PB&J sandwiches! She had a pillowcase that was special for jellies and we squeezed the jelly through the cloth. What messy fun…! Thanks for the memories!
Sweet little Hannah was sitting there watching her brorhers and sisters enjoying the jerkey with a "hey where's mine" look? It's so incredible watching your loving family work together! With our family (and grand kids) grown it' brings back amazing memories. May God Bless and watch over you all!
Jessica, I just wanted to say thank you so much for the inspiration to can more. Today a friend gave me some onions, carrots, lettuce and little tomatoes and some mild peppers. Did not have a clue what to do with them and I thought what would you do with them. Had empty jars, so I am making some vegetable broth and some chicken broth from left over chicken. Before I would have thrown or given it away, now I feel good because I used what was given and what I had to make something for my pantry. Keep the videos coming. God's blessing to you and yours .
I loved seeing Miss Hannah during the beef jerky testing, holding out her hands, watching everyone eat the food, looking at her empty hands...you're not far off weaning.
Hello from Arkansas. I look forward to Sundays to watch your videos. All the children are so helpful and little miss Hannah is growing so much. I just love the way you're not wasteful and make delicious foods for your family. And the yard is looking a lot better. Thank you so much for sharing your great family. Looking forward to next Sunday.
Jessica, listening to your weekly video while puttering in my greenhouse or kitchen has become my Sunday morning routine. You never fail to inspire me!
Be glad your kids are young and with you. I tried to raise my kids similar to this lifestyle. But they grew up left and rarely come around. And it's super hard when they get grown.
My favorite jerky recipe is simply teriyaki sauce, liquid smoke, and garlic, and after it comes out of the marinade we sprinkle a little black pepper on it before we put it on the dehydrator.
I love seeing your children in the kitchen learning and doing little tasks. I always did the same with my oldest children at a very young age, so they know how to cook and bake, also learned how to get along in the kitchen while I watched and when I was not watching. Starting them off by learning to do little things around the house made them feel important and helpful, then I would shift the responsibilities as they got older. My 4year old wants to help me cook and not just bake, so I'll have to adjust my time to make it happen(I like to move fast in the kitchen to be done in 30- 60, depending on the meal). This year I'm learning to garden according to my zone and frosting, and I'm already seeing a big improvement. Thanks for the juice and snack tips, and more.👍🏽👍🏽❤
Oh! Hannah at the end 😍! I loved seeing your house from the outside, it’s a lovely house! Having a working cellar will be a game changer for your family. Glad you were able to fix the water problem! Have a great week.
I always look forward to seeing your videos. I watch them as I'm getting ready for church. Your voice is so pleasant and your children are precious. Thank you for sharing with us.
Worcestershire is pronounced Woosta-sheer (think rooster with W and sheer as sheering sheep emphasis on the Woosta) I learned this when we visited Worcestershire, England where it was developed. Great project for the kids. I recently purchased 1000 ForJars lids using your code. Thank you!
We also use bands on the cups in our household. If not, I'd be constantly washing every cup we have. Spring has finally arrived here in ND my front yard is spring, backyard still has a couple feet of snow. Our garden area is finally snow free and we will see 60 degrees this week! So glad you will be able to finally use your basement. I am looking forward to the video on how you are planning on setting it up for your food storage. I bet it will make a huge difference for you and your family! Have a wonderful week.
The end showing how small your home really is, gives you a clear view of what tiny space you guys make do in. Loved the recipes today. Thank you for sharing. God bless.😊
I am 19 seconds in and already have the biggest smile I have had all day, seeing the three young boys and their adorable photo bomb smiles!!! Your family warms my heart. Okay, back to the video for me. ❤ And a surprise photo bomb at 3:05! Thank you!! 😊
Loved the beef jerky project and the creative names your kids labled the jerky. I really enjoy your content because its different from what you get on most channels. You always have a creative approach and I learn something new each week!
Absolutely! My son loathed school in general and math was a particularly hated subject. However, he’s always loved food and took a natural interest in cooking, so I welcomed him into the kitchen with me and basically taught him math without him ever realizing it was happening. 😊
Hi Jessica!!! Sending a smile your way!! Thanks for sharing your life with us. It's a blessing to see how a christian family works together! Happy home church day 💒💒🙏🙏. Your Michigan Fan and friend, Araminta
Freeze drying has greatly improved my preservation game!! I always large batch cook, and even though it's just the two of us, I freeze dry 2/3 of a big batch and that will be our easy meals for busy gardening season. We will have healthy scratch cooked meals quickly. We have packed freeze dried meals for traveling, and it saved us tons of money and again we ate healthy home cooked meals.😊😊😊😊
@@threerivershomestead I have done Asian inspired noodles (bean noodles) with assorted vegetables and some times meat(chicken or pork). I have done ground turkey and ground pork, and I will be doing beef soon. I will add those to canned tomatoes for chili, taco, or soups. I also used up sweet potatoes in a few chowder as well.
@@threerivershomestead I have done lots of vegetable mixes as well, including a chicken pot pie filling. I freeze dried some pumpkin bread, and applesauce bread to make a biscuits style dippable bread, great for coffee or teas.
Sleeping angel eyes, reminds me of Benjamin so much! Many exciting and worthwhile projects to come - Hurray! The apple trees must feel like heaven underneath. What a blessing.
Good morning Jessica and precious family!!! Thank you for taking us along on your very productive week. I admire how you are raising your children, they are learning so much and will be so blessed as adults!! Gods blessings 🙏
I make jerky for my husband. This last batch was simply Cherry Dr. Pepper with Chipotle peppers in Adobo Sauce, so far his favorite! I did Ginger Ale with Jalapeno.
Jessica have you looked in to edible weeds, we can eat Hawthorne leaves and make jelly from the berries or flowers, you can eat chickweed, wild garlic, wild watercress, so many edible hedgerow plants and weeds.
Great video Jessica. I always enjoy your channel. Your house looks fantastic. Our snow is finally pretty well gone. So I can get out and do some planting as well. 🌷🇨🇦
Good morning my dear, excited to see your cellar update, the land looks so nice! The garden is looking great too. How much fun for the boys making jerky! You are such a special mom!! Enjoy the coming week.
I get so many tips from you, i thought i might share some condiment tips I have discovered. Because soy sauce is fermented, the bad stuff decreases to less than green veggies. I have 'other' gut issues and i can tolerate. I saw this info in an interview on high intensity health with Anthony Jay (if you are interested in it!) And second, Worcestershire sauce - check the ingredients - it is supposed to be mostly fermented sardines/anchovies, not sugar - the real stuff is worth the price!! Cheers lovely :) x
HANNAH IS GROWING SO FAST; I LOVE WATCHING YOUR CHILDREN ENJOYING TIME IN THE KITCHEN WITH YOU COOKING/BAKING. MY 3-YEAR-OLD GRANDSON LOVES TO HELP MY DAUGHTER COOK OR HE WILL HELP HIS DAD MAKE HOMEMADE PIZZA. SEEM.S NOW A DAY THE CHILDREN GROW UP SO FAST BEFORE OUR EYES. BLESSINGS TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY.
I love to watch your large family videos! I’d love to make some beef jerky if I can find a good price! It brings back memories of my family growing up, although very different. My sister and I made some beef jerky and other dehydrated foods for our brother when he hiked the whole Appalachian trail years ago! My sister would periodically send him food (even a rhubarb and strawberry pie that he shared with fellow hikers) at different points of his trip. Thanks for sharing your life with us!
Oh the baby is so sweet...that little face...you have beautiful children...I did the same with my children, especially my son, he was very good with pastry.. Now he is 33, married ,2 children of his own and a great cook....I love it when they FaceTime me as he te!!s me his great deals he bought shopping and cooking...
I loved this video. All your videos just bless me so much Jessica. I Ty for all the work and effort you put into them. I learn so much valuable information that we need to know in this world todsy and going forward. Many blessings and prayers for your family.
Everything is growing good 👍 Little John John is too funny I use to make deer Jerry all the time All of our kids always help make too really had a good time Little Hannah is growing so fast
So happy for the progress on your house. Keep the faith it will all come together eventually! My yard is finally coming back together after 3 years. After my rooster chasing expedition and broken foot I have now processed 14 wild roosters. I have been gathering the wild hens 6 so far and processing the non egg layers 10 so far. I have a big bare spot in the yard from where our french drain was laid that's all rocky. I'm building a new mobile pen to get my wild egg laying hens to do the work in turning up the rock hard soil. Then we'll amend it and add grass starts in time for wet season. I'm doing it in sections with a hardware cloth 8x2 frame over each section to give the grass a chance to come up before the cats and chickens dig it out. I'm also starting a chick pen where I can place the wild hens with their baby chicks. We'll sort out hens from roosters and keep the hens for laying and the roosters for eating. There is a never ending supply of wild chickens on Guam. I can't wait to try some of your jerkey recipes I just came into a bunch of sirloin. Avocadoes and Mangoes are in full swing. I'll start making Mango jam and salsa soon! Have a great week!
Pomona's is the best! I've been using it for at least 20 years, and I don't think I've ever had a failure. For those who think it's expensive, be aware that you use VERY LITTLE for each batch.
God has truly blessed you with a beautful family. It is wonderful to watch your family learn to work together and learn how to be self sufficient and have confidence! Awesome.
I got the lids to try this year.A my oldest daughter tough her boys how to do cooking laundry, and they all know how to be able to take care of themself and their families.and 4of the boys work as cooks and kitchen mangager .Have a safe and bless day.
It's good to let kids cook, I was cooking at the age 8 but my mom taught me how to be careful and yet I could help feeding my brother and sister. Love from Virginia ❤️
I liked the experiment with the beef jerky. I have to tell you that watching your videos changed me in the kitchen. I’m more creative and less wasteful. Even my husband told me he noticed something different. Thanks for the inspiration ❤️
I love seeing you reuse food items that others may toss! I do it too! There is always a way to use up those food scraps! Love seeing the children helping so much too! I love watching their personalities come out as they grow! Blessings!
