I live near Porto and frequent Viana do Castelo often. Esposende is great too. Crystal was a kite student of mine years back...I hope that she gives me a hollar next time she's in the area :) Stellar vid!!
Just came back from an amazing week here in Viana do Castello. Via this video we decided to book here and every word said in this video is the absolute truth. The people are so friendly, the wind is pumping between 20 and 30 knots from 12:00/13:00 till 19:00 (look out for forecasts with North West/East and clear skies). The ferry from and to the city centre from cabadelo beach goes every hour and costs €1,60 a fare. A locker costs around 10€ per day and the amenities, atmosphere and hassle free kitespot you get in return is priceless. Going to come back for sure!
Great report, all that you put is true except that you have 25 days per month with wind in sumer, maybe 15 but not more, but for sure is the place in all the north of Portugal and Spain with more wind in sumer.
Great vid, you’re always so informative, it convinced my wife to book flights for August! We’ve got 3 & 5 year kids & have gone to Tarifa last two summers as it works for all of us plus guaranteed wind but really hoping this is the new spot for us. A road trip video around Europe would be perfect!
@MACkiteboarding @Crystal Veness can you pls let me know how long does it take to get from town centre to Cabadelo beach? I'm thinking about going to Viana in summer for 3-4 weeks, but for most of that time I will be working business hours, so only will be able to leave the office at 5PM approx, +/- 30 mins, and I'm wondering what time I'd arrive at the beach (and if I will have enough time for kiting before the dark)? Also, is that true that ferry would be actually quicker than bus? (I'd rather not rent a car, since parking can be nightmare there in summer time). Last one: is the wind blowing there till late / till it gets dark? or rather finishing at, let's say, 6 or 7PM? thanks in advance for answering & thanks for preparing this great guide - this guide is actually one of the main reasons why I'm planning to go there, only viewing this I've found out that such spot actually exists.
I really meant the location. Viana is my goto summer spot. And seeing Pedro (with the surfboard) and Martinho (with the green-ish wetsuit) riding was an unexpected and gladly appreciated start of the day for me! The edit was nice as well, but then again your edits always are :-)
Brice Carpentier oh nice! Guess I was excited about the natural ambiance. 😂 You have good taste. Portugal is epic. Do you live there? It's my favorite country to kite for sure.
MACkiteboarding livED there 3 years ago :) (near Moledo) But I go back as much as I can, people there are some of the nicest I’ve ever met. (Though Mauritius was a close second in that regard)
