THANKS GREAT RESEARCH EFFORT ,I have watched a ton of these and everyone else gets about your results before after. I am refitting a Loehle Sport Parasol and was concerned most about making part 103 stall speed and I have been convinced VG is the way to ensure that I can meet that, and this is just one more video that says its the way to get there. The only other way is to install >50% flaps ($$$$) and then the FAA gives me a few points on the lift coefficient on paper ( i dont have to actually ever use the flaps) but VG is a lot cheaper and a ton less work.

Great video loved it, You know what mite make a fun video.. To show how busy your feet are (rudder) and stick are during some of your back country flying and off-airport landings ..I know would like. Thank you for your time in the making of all of your videos.

Id like to see a pivoting pitot (on a ball) so it's always directly into the relative wind. I played around a lot decades ago in my Cessnas, and old rag planes, but never did it. I did modify so slips were equal.

IIUC the Kitfox Speedster airfoil is a Riblett GA30-612. I’m *guessing* the STi wing is a Riblett GA30-613.5 (but I could be completely wrong on both of these). I wonder if adding a strip of dimple tape at 10% of chord length would make any difference in cruise efficiency and drop the stall speed another mph. Might be an interesting experiment to do.

Alex, this was a fun test with real life before and after results. Mike Patey in his building of Drako has a great video on the difference between a slotted and a slatted leading edge and the drag effects of the airfoil when landing a tail dragger. If you wanted to get your stable slow speed down under 35-6 knots perhaps a slatted leading edge could bring you down to near 29 knots?

hey Alex happy you got the VG install , 2 to 3 Knots is a good gain , thanks for sharing , like the way you did the stencil , i would of go 1 Centimeter further back but three so meany opinion on the subject, i think you did great

Great performance gains! Enjoyed your process and precision application methodology. Question: I didn't catch whether you applied VGs under your horizontal stabilizer. I'm curious whether doing so will help you maintain a higher angle of attack during low-speed flare.

I did. I had 16 VG's left over and installed 8 on each side. I do feel my elevator with much more authority.

would be interesting to put some strings on the wings and film them with and without VGs to see if the flow disconnects differently also couldn't it be that your flaps stall at that speed?

There must be kind of sacrifice, I mean cruise speed or gas burn? Doesn't the VGs induce a slightly more drag

VGs on the wings don't really have much effect on cruise speed. They have more effect at higher AOA giving better control at lower speeds therefore lowering stall speed. He goes over this better in his first VG video.

When you said you're not going to put yourself in that position, do you mean you don't do full-stall landings? That seems like an odd statement to me. The goal is to be able to land more slowly and now you can. Nothing wrong with that.

True airspeed might be better because you obviously have different angles of attack on the pitot tube (VTs on and off), don't you? Loose any VTs? Great tool and experimentation Alex! Chuck PS When I was a very young pilot, I tried full power on stall and ended up upside down, then spinning for 4,000 feet before I regained control. Be careful.

Hi Alex, Great video. How did you determine the distance of 34mm? Stolspeed recommend positioning at 8 to 12% of Chord line?

Curious as to why your stall speed is so much higher than mine... full flap power on I'm down at 27mph, power off at 31mph. Also STOL speed Vg's and placed at 3%. I have a video up on it as well

Alex, Nice job and excellent video. I need to borrow thst clever tool to mark my cord line on my Kitfox V when I go to do mine. Hey, are those solar charging panels mounted on your turtle deck? If so, who is the manufacturer and do you like them? Thanks

There is a lot of movement on the plexi turtledeck; if it were stiffer, there would be less movement, probably less drag, and better airflow. Might be worth doing some testing with tufts to see how the air behaves, then install a thicker plexi, and compare. Do you recall what your speed was before putting on the bigger tires?

The plexi will vibrate no matter what I put there. I was at 120mph before the big tires.

Alex, would you mind sharing your experience with crosswind landings when you have the VGs on? I've had them on my Rans and found that due to the lower stall speed, crosswind landings became harder. Lower forward speed means bigger crosswind component. Curious to hear if you noticed a difference

Alex, it would have helped immensely if you said the units when you said a number. When you were referring to 105, 110, and to 40, 41, 39, 35, I didn't know if that was airspeed, or horsepower, or gallons per hour, or descent rate, or degrees of angle of attack, or cylinder head temperature in centigrade, or what. Remember that we can't read your thoughts. The audio was really bad, which added to the confusion.

I find it strange that Alex repeatedly says KNOTS... yet the chart at the end says MPH. The comparisons are still valid but the terminology confusing... Speaking of which... the captioning is not accurate to vocals. lol.

Yes thank you Alex. 50 yrs ago we were all MPH... it was rare to see an AS indicator in knots. As I recall the FAA used knots and all light planes were gauged MPH. Now its all Knots. Of course, I still prefer the old analog gauges instead of glass. :-)
