Surrounded by vast paddy fields and a plethora of natural beauty, the Kithala Resort is a true piece of haven as one explores the magnificence of Southern Sri Lanka. Inspired by the scores of exotic birds one encounters at the hotel and the area is home to, the resort was named Kithala or the Purple Coot.
The Yala National Park is the most visited and second largest national park in Sri Lanka, bordering the Indian Ocean. The park consists of five blocks, two of which are now open to the public. Yala National Park is a terrain of varying flat plains alternating with rocky outcrops. Its ecosystem varies from moist monsoon forests to sandy beaches. Yala is world-renowned for its array of wildlife; with over 215 bird species and 44 species of mammals, the highlight of Yala is the high density of leopards. It's said to be the highest density found in any part of the world, which is about 0.4 per km2 in Block 1(140 km2).
