I grew up with her songs, as well as patsy cline, dolly parton, jim reeves, hank williams sr, hank snow, ect. this is real country music, not like today with electric guitars and big drum sets. i wish this was still a thing, but for now i'll stick with listening to it on here til i get myself a record player and some records so i can listen to this at anytime
This was my favorite song by Social Distortion. Then one night on a long road trip I heard THIS version in a Cracker Barrel. And then I found out it was Kitty Wells and discovered that gosh darn it! I was a Kitty Wells fan. Who knew!?!?
It's the definition of good music. Which goes to prove good music transcends style and stands the test of time. Social Distortion and Volbeat both did rock covers of this song wonderfully.
My dad was in love with Kitty Wells. He was so thrilled meeting her in person. He has a picture of the two of them together and I think it’s his most prized possession.
I first heard this song performed by the wonderful Emmylou in 1977. just tonight (31/08/2023), I've listened to this 1955 recording by Ms. Wells. I'm astonished! I never knew that this existed pre-Emmylou. Beautiful.

I was a "Yankee" when we moved to Tn at age 9 and fell in love with real country music. It was on WSM at 4:00 every afternoon and that was the only TV station at the time. I still love the REAL country and was always a Kitty Wells fan.

I love that Kitty never got show-bizzed up. She sang straight with that incredible voice, telling her stories right up front. She never "sold" a sang in her life. She just told the story. This is artistic integrity.
I was just entering my teenage years when Kitty Wells began her recording career. There was something magical about her voice and the simplicity of her singing that I loved. She never changed a thing throughout the years, despite the glitz and glamour and promotionalism that came to country music. She was a strong woman, family person and a fine example for all. R.I.P.

About a decade before you were born rock was at a low point it was party bro music(Sadly Country music is now party bro music), but then Nirvana came out and took it back to it's roots and for awhile all was good. Don't get discouraged, Someone "real" will show up someday and remind the folks of what Country music is again and why it's great.
She was my favorite. I played the Steel back in the 50s and always wanted to play the Steel for Ms. Kitty. I think she was indeed the first female voice I heard that I thought was country to my liking.
What a great trip back to 1955 -- such a wonderful time to have lived. I would not trade one memory from then for anything you could give me from today's sick world. That is an amazing custom Gibson she is playing. It looks to be a smaller version of a slope shouldered J-45 all decked out with J-200 binding and inlay. Bet it is worth a fortune today!
I was born in 1966 but my mom and grandmom had 78 records of her recordings, they used to play those records and sing along with Kitty and others, oh how I miss those days.

She was the queen of country and naybell Carter was the mother of country gospels along with her daughters. Back in those days we had great performance from the country singer who really cares of the music that they're singing and the songs comes from their hearts and not just to fill their pocket purse or billfold.

I'm a rock n roll kinda guy...lol....But if I have to listen to country, I would rather listen to this than all the commercial crap that calls itself country these days!

Listening to Kitty Wells taught me to me to add C&W music to my overall appreciation for the genre, and hearing the Carter family do Wildwood Flower cemented it.

Kitty Wells has always been one of our favorite singers. Mom had all her records. I grew up on this type of great country music. What a loss to the whole world. Miss Kitty you will always be remembered. Thank the good lord we will have her music forever.
Kitty Wells was the ultimate trail blazer for Women in Country Music. She opened the doors. I grew up on this music, and to each and everyone of these great stars of yesteryear now passing away, is sad for me. They were such a part of my growing up years, when all my loved ones were still alive. The memories are priceless. :-)
Jimmy Work wrote and first recorded this beautiful ballad. I had the pleasure of visiting Jimmy and his wife Ruth's house a few times back a few years ago. They lived in Dukedom, Tennessee. It was an awesome sight to see the gold records on Jimmy's wall. I have photos of it somewhere. RIP Jimmy.
