Kiwi (Apteryx mantelli) are cryptic, nocturnal, difficult to observe and hard to gain insights into their behaviour.
Are there kiwi here? How many? Are they breeding? Are they battling with threats such as predation by stoats and cats?

They've been watched here on the kōkopu track for about 18 months and make appearances most weeks.
Positioning a camera outside a burrow will likely provide new insights but locating a burrow frequented by kiwi has proved elusive... until now.
