Superb performance!!...Of course part of a film considered by many as a true jewel. I admire the cleverness of the director Wolfgang Petersen whom received an impossible task even from the very first draft script. To portray a branch of Nazi Era Wermacht without bringing the political subject into the film. Boy! that´s tough. So tough no one in Germany has attempted it since 1981 ( I don´t include the 2018 remake directed by Andreas Prochaska) And perhaps that´s the key of the whole movie. Using the Kriegsmarine to tell a story of a group of sailors whom thru difficulties are capable to acomplish the impossible. You get so into the movie that you soon forget all these caracters belong to a very terrible and obscure past from Germany´s history. And that´s the brilliant of it. I had the honor to watch the TV series for a whole week when it was aired in my country back in 82. I still remember it so clearly.
same buddy, i was 8 at the time, and after conversations with my dad, who himself was in the silent service, this film had a massive impact on me, and still does, i am now 47. imo the best war film ever made, not made up from 1 patrol, as in the movie, but a dozen or so patrols from different boats. the only branch of armed service with a higher loss rate was the kamikaze units .
well done, i wish my dad was still alive, he would have loved this, classical music was his thing, that and war films, he rated this filim n01 above all else.
Excelente video fiel reflejo de este fantástico film que es fiel reflejo del drama de la guerra y del tremendo y dramático coraje bajo el mar, me emocionó mucho. Gracias! 🙏
German and japanese side of the WW2 are still quite unknown. ''The Fall'' (2004) with Bruno Ganz, also ''Stalingrad'' (1993) and ''The Pianist'' (2008) both with Thomas Krestchmann are among the best. I would add ''The boy in stripped pijamas'' (also from 2008), though it's not an action movie but it has quality in it's script and a powerful message. Greetings from Argentina
I disagree. Oposite to the japanese people, the german society has accept their guilty and history. Since the end of WW II they worked it up, trying to learn from and do everything to prevent it will never happen again. Every generation, I am born 1973, learned so much in school about all this important part of world history. Including the genozid and the war crimes of our grandparents. The 12 years 1933 - 1945 are roughly 80 % of the history lessons in german schools history lessons. And this is right, it has to be!
@@reinharddecker4650 you misunderstood my comment. I just said that it would be good to see in the market more German-made films and Japanese-made films about WWII, since is interesting to see the film centered in characters other than the US soldier or the British. Or, it could be US-made films that could center in characters other than their own soldiers. This is great for historical purposes as it helps more broad perspectives.
the end of the movie in the background shows the real ending of das boot, the focke wulf 190 a-5 of jagdgeschwader 27 "Oesau" that destroyed the boat with a rocket. The Pilot was Walther Schagenscheidt, the Architekt of the petrol stations.
"L.I. an Kommandant, Backbord-Diesel muss stoppen, Fundament is gerissen!!" Kommandant:"Weiter äußerste Kraft voraus, ALLES WAS DRIN IS L.I., ALLES WAS DRIN IS!"
great piece of music, klangfarben (akam kraftwerk) are the best technoplayers with instruments in germany or as better might be to say in europe and very interesting for american ears. hope you all have a good life and havend hadt the hardnesses of poorness as the beamtulares have it in the beginning of their services.
I hope that the real story of the disremembering of churchill as one could see in the movie "der adler ist gelandet", exabberated on "das boot" is german, but two things are not of our meantime. firstly, we do not have anymore the commanders point-of-view, and on the other hand side we have another kind of historiaisation in telling a history. i hope that heintje will sing the opening of the boat or however this opera will be called. otherwise there is only anna kläerheim in the german speaking hemisphere. I do not have any appreciaciation on this opera but I heard many microhistories about it.
Look, this epic music compartement looks too me as if they had the idea to make an opera out of the boat. and therefore they built more than one focke wulf 200 in russia to have the planes to play the opera. it could be, that the opera is only played once and banned to the movie screen. then the new boat opera-movie would be out on the market, made by russia, and not by america. there are then two versions of the book, as I know by lothar günther buchheim. if this is the book to the boat. if not, then there must be a military-historian-type book on the market, which what you or one cannot buy in germany. hope that this things are returning culture to the germans and too europe, we lost during the last decades since the great sunclasch.
if one could foresee the six hours version of the movie, he knows more than seeing the directors cut of she. But if one would like too watch the movie as a tragedy of german imperialistic ideas than as wagner told us the story of lohengrin, than one would like to see the 16 hours 2 minuits and 6 seconds version. germany has no imperialistic ideeas, one would only get imperialistic ideas if he or she has a gekränktes selbstbewusstsein. so hope that the germans would like to become good and in idea stylish germans to remember the forging of the imperialistic ideas and never return to wolfsrudel tactkticksalarush
