He has such emotional depth, speaks with such passion. I love that so many new young conductors are rising to take the place of - not replace, never replace - the older conductors who have recently passed. Klaus Makela came to my notice in a video of Shostakovich's Leningrad Symphony. He even looked like Shostakovich! Truly a conductor to follow.

Klaus has burst upon the music scene so quickly that it is wonderful to have this interview to get to know him. I can relate to so much of what he says in my own way. Good interview. PS: I guess the cello section is not a bad place to start out...it worked for Toscanini !!

Sibelius is indeed very different. IMO he is possibly the greatest composer of all for the simple reason that no other has the almost hypnotic effect in the way that Sibelius does. His music literally transforms me to another world.

The hottest young conductor working today. The real deal.

He reminds me of a cross between Freddy Mercury and River Phoenix. Did anyone else think that?
