SPOILER IN THE VIDEO! Here is my character animation reel for the Netlifx movie Klaus animated at SPA studio! A big thanks to Sergio Pablos for trusting me with these shots and Yoshi Tamura to be my amazing supervisor. On the shot at 1m35 the animation for Margu was done by the amazing Slaven Reese, and on the sequence from 2min05 to 2min26, Klaus was animated by the incredible Jeremie Becquer.

I adored the movie and your contribution to it. I've been taking traditional animation classes this semester and have barely grasped the concepts. But everything here: Jasper was brought to life!

How do you animate, like how do you draw a character in whatever pose and expression you want and still look 3d and real?
@MaximeDelalande
@MaximeDelalande 3 года назад
that's a pretty broad question haha. I search for the key poses for a very long-time. I try to do the pose myself to understand how the body moves or do the action. I also search for references at times, maybe tom hanks had a great pose in such or such movie. That kind of process :)

Hello Maxime, I have a question about reading your timechart, if nobody already asked: You put some few crosses at the timechart marking something but there are no drawings...Are the croses for the spacing or are these "nice to have" drawings? I could also imaging that these are let out drawings... Thanks a lot for answering my question!
@MaximeDelalande
@MaximeDelalande 3 года назад
Hello, the cross are an empty space, for exemple if i want an inbetween at the second third between two drawings, i will draw two little lines, put the number of the inbetween i want in the second one (representing the second third) and a cross on the first one, just to be clear on the chart that it is divided by three and not only two. I hope i am clear enough :)

Hello! AMAZING work! I adore this film. Do you (or does anyone) know where I can learn about time charts? I started some research recently, but am still quite confused.
@MaximeDelalande
@MaximeDelalande 2 года назад
Not really no, I learned mostly on the movie, but I rarely use it out of these big productions. I don't really see the point of it if you don't have to communicate with a clean up team.

This is soo crazy like how do yall making animation so cohisive with proportions and stuff. I know that there are like key frames but then if key frames are far away from each other how do you like still maintain proportion? Idk if thats clear what i just said but idk how to explain that differently due to the language bareer.
@MaximeDelalande
@MaximeDelalande 2 месяца назад
a good way to do that is moving the drawing on top of the distant pose. just to check if the character keep its solidity. It's all digital so it's pretty easy to do ;)

why do animators draw each frame like it blinks?
@MaximeDelalande
@MaximeDelalande 3 года назад
when the inbetweening is easy, or if part of the body doesn't move for example, the animator won't draw it and will let that to the assisting/clean-up team, just to save time (we have quotas to follow and things like that)
