When I was 10, 1990, exactly this model was for sale in one store, here in Munich. 5000 Deutsch Mark, Campagnolo Groupe set, Wich, these days, was the same price class, like buying a bike for 10000 € today! 1991 / 1992, when I was riding my trek Antelope 820, proudly equipped with a rock Shox ( before the mag 21), at our Isar Trails, I had to watch, at least 3 to 5 KLEIN Bikes, while a tour day! Attitude's and Androit's, in those porn multi colors : yellow neon green, or violet neon purple, or Dollomiti (there is an " Dollomiti" ice from Langnese, Wich has exactly those colors). Since these first years, Wich were also the beginning years of MTB in Germany generally, we always had one special group of older customers for extremely expensive bikes in Munich. We call them " Beer garden riders" or " Gelato bombers"!!
The bike is beautiful! I bet that thing would whip around hard I couldn't imagine how light that thing would be! Or how much they charge for a no suspension bike back then I bet that thing was about 2,500 with inflation factored in. The damn what a piece of art!
Imo, Dolomite is the most beautiful color of all Kleins. Will be picking up a NOS 2001 Klein Quantum Race in Sky Blue. Already had a hard time sleeping last night, especially after watching your awesome video. Enjoy in good health. Cheers. 😊
This is one bike I remember seeing in bike magazines as a kid and dreaming of owning one. I'm 45 now and still do. This and the Cannondale Super V Raven.
Nicely done mate. I was 15/16 in '91 and just started racing. Like you, I had that Attitude poster on the wall and always wanted one but never even saw one! Saw a few Adroit at races though. The 91 Attitude and the Pace RC100 were my back in the day dream bikes. Never occurred to me to do like you have and find one to restore, just as an object of nostalgia/beauty. 👌
Oh indeed, these bikes to me were simple "unavailable", the Pace was also an incredible bike! I still just stare at this bike! brings back so many amazing memories of the brand
Hey man. I'm 25 and I also have addiction to Klein and Cannondale aluminum bikes. I'm totally aware of the fact that I haven't even been alive by the time those bikes were the thing, but I can really feel the nostalgia involved in them. It all started like 1.5 years ago, I've had just 1 Klein Quantum Pro and 4 Cannondale bikes, but I see how the passion for more won't stop any time soon.
Contrary to what you mentioned in this video, i can honestly say with confidence that klein bikes are still lauded for their craftsmanship. Im 24 years old and drool over klein mountain bikes. There is a sizable portion of this current generation of bikers who appreciate Klein bikes. I got myself a 2002 klein adept full sus mtb recently and im stoked to build it. I would ideally like to own a pre-trek klein but they're too dang expensive. But anyway, your attitude is gorgeous! Cheers!
Bro thats cool, i own 4 kleins 1 OG Attitude, 01 Mantra 01 Attitude 01 Adept my newest and probably favorite to ride, better design and function over the Mantra.
Hey, i totally agree... I bought the same colour hubs when i was in the states around 1990. They are incredible! These ones took me around 10 years of watching forums and ebay to find, was so excited to find them again
@@MultiMb77 you were looking out 4 those hubs 4 10yrs! That is some mad determination and focus. Thanx 4 reply as it makes the story of your bike build something more than just the beautiful machine. Keep well.
Cool. Was riding and racing mountain bikes from early 1980’s through 90’s . Late 80’s built a Cannondale with Campag MTB groupset...amazing days. Beautiful Klein and way ahead of its time Still riding but more road these days.
great example of the type you have there, personally I would have sourced a pair of the campag thumbies and F/R mechs for it to go with the levers. The thing that's throwing me is the decals of the original jpgs of the bike you showed in the vid when you originally bought it as they appear more '92. Did the original owner get it resprayed etc that year?
I actually have a pair of the campag thumbies in my garage but I had XT and I wanted to build this bike to the same spec I had BITD. It could be, I got it off eBay and it was a wreck
What a bike !!! nice rendition you have created. I remember drooling over the attitude at Harry Hall's in Manchester when l was 18. No bike has ever stopped me in my tracks like this bike did. It is truly as good looking today as it was back then. Just hope l get to ride one some day. Thanks for the vid 👍
Thanks, I know, these were and still are so exotic! you were lucky to see one, no shops had one in stock when I was young so I never got to see one.. but I had all the posters up on my bedroom wall.. proper unicorn back then! Thanks again for your comments
I understand your passion for the Klein , I'd love to own one as well . I have a Kirk precision that I waited almost a decade for and finally got earlier this year , it's in the shop ATM getting a few things done and sourcing some special hubs and rims .
I came up on my first KLEIN at my local swap meet and as much as i try to save the original paint i had to respray it (not as nice as yours) now its back on the road hopefully for many years to come
Rode the same one/same color from 91-94 and know most of the guys that welded them. We all called it the "Watermelon". Gary was ahead of his time for sure but don't miss riding the thing in the Capitol Forest one bit.
Gorgeous bike! I feel the Klein Attitude/Adroit was the best XC MTB made from 1990-1999! I bought one just like that brand new in 1990, but with the first ever trigger shift DeoreXT shifters. Raced it for 4 years. busted the frame at the seat clamp and so Klein gave me a free 92 Attitude frame. Sadly it was stolen around 2003 or so. I have thought of buying another to hang on the wall beside my 1990 italian road racing bike, but I need a XL size and they just don't seem to come up for sale. Plus the trails here require bigger modern wheels and disc brakes for this old rider.
Wow flash back, i remember when this mtb was released and it took our breath away with its futuristic look, back then this was the cream of mtb's. I would love to own one and kit it out with modern parts, i would probly keep the forks. You have to paint it in that colour, yes you are right m8 they were so rare, so rare that even to this day i have only ever seen 2 in the flesh & i am 50 now & was mountain biking in the late 80's, The only other bike that i fell in love with is the anniversary yeti ark addition,
oh wow!! yes the Yeti! another bike that was very rare back then, i look seeing these bikes. I had so many people coming up to me at Swinley Forrest, was amazed how many people remember them,.
I have an original from ‘93 with that color full XTR I think mines a 19”. It’s an awesome bike. Selle Italia flight seat. Manitou front shock. I’m never selling it 💯💯🔥🔥🔥🔥. I don’t ride it much these days. Been using a banged up Specialized S Works full suspension. . I still like the Klein better. 😎
I've owned a cannondale red shred 89' , it destroyed in a car accident on a rack.Go a Klein Attitude Race 99' and still have it ...its been stripped for years and I'm putting 700c wheels on it ...just decided yesterday... I have the manitou forks (original) , I sure could use those forks
The 99' Attitude Race was made in chehalis but the paint in that era was wacked ...bike is chipped ridiculously so I'm gonna DIY paint it ...before I completely take the paint of I'm gonna touch it up ...no drilling and I'm hoping to have 1X drive train capability but a newer 2X by will be lighter anyway and adapters for the cantilever...this bike had old disc mounts ...may be an adapter...maybe I'll make it known when complete ...nice rigs !
Found a 90 model near me in team colors. All original, super clean for $2500. Can't find any for sale for reference on the market right now. In your opinion, is that seem a fair price?
Sounds a good bike, the way I feel, something is only worth what you are willing to pay., what I mean is, if something makes you nostalgic and you have a real passion for, if the bike will steal hours of your time when you’re just looking at it then I would Definitely say it’s worth it… my Klein has cost around £2k, if it was £3k I would have still paid it… it’s a bike I will never sell, and I love just looking at it, I have a real passion for it! Hope this helps
Me, who wasn’t alive during the 90s mtb era, taken up cycling recently, but still loves the simplicity of vintage bikes, watching this video that stated that it wasn’t my interest and that I’d probably not be watching: 👁👄👁
These are gorgeous! The paint schemes are incredible in the flesh if you get a good condition one. Depending on spec yes they are super rare can take years to get one Go to retrobike forum as they pop up from time to time and also keep checking eBay 👍 Good luck in your search
Hey, sorry, I've missed a lot of comments in here, sorry this is a year to late. The bike was resprayed quite a few years ago now, but back then it was around £600 if i remember correctly.
@@yardsalecycles I had my heart set on the Dolomite which is why when i saw the black one come up, it was a decision i have already made, Kleins look amazing in the popping colours!
