The problem with copying the Chinese version is that the Chinese version is incorrect. The Klingon Bat'leth has a rounded/curved back side. If you were to make another with the correct back you would find it much easier to wield. Either way great work!
@TheKenbuntu
@TheKenbuntu 7 лет назад
I see that exact problem on almost every replica I find. I am willing to shell out a lot of money for one if it is of sufficient quality, but I have not found it yet.

I went to a Star Trek convention a long time ago and there was a guy from the state of Washinton that made them and they looked authentic. He actually made one for Michael Dorn and Terry Farrell and had the pictures and signatures to prove it. They were $500.00!

Nah. The Mek'leth is useful, but the Bat'leth... well, someone decided to stick up a store with one, I think, but in actual combat you'd be better off with something less ridiculous :P

A weapon that’s both a guard and a blade at once
@kamalalsb7292
@kamalalsb7292 Год назад
@@acemarvel1564 You'd think, but the shape and position of the grip makes it VERY hard to keep straight. When you hold it, it wants to flip so the blade is facing inward - and it's kind of a pain to keep the edge OUT. You don't get a very good swing out of it for the same reason, and it's not great for stabbing either. It looks very cool but it's deeply impractical.
@acemarvel1564
@acemarvel1564 Год назад
@@kamalalsb7292 it’s most likely one of these strictly skill based fencing weapon for duels and challenges It may not be a good war weapon but it just might have a chance nonetheless in a real fight I’ve seen martial artists try it and I believe it is possible

Kahless went into the mountains, all the way to the Kri'stak Volcano. He cut off a lock of his hair and thrust it into the river of molten rock, which poured from the summit. The hair began to burn, but then he plunged it into the lake of Lusor and twisted it into a sword. And after he used it to kill the tyrant Molor he gave it a name: bat'leth, "the sword of honor".

why did he use a knock-off as a template when legions of star trek nerds have memorized the exact dimensions and ratios necessary?
@nucleartime
@nucleartime 10 лет назад
deathpyre42 If it was an actual cultural piece, there wouldn't be an exact dimension. Longswords do not have an exact dimension. A specifc longsword has exact dimensions. Longswords in general do not. Same for katanas, scimitars, and pretty much every other weapon.
@deathpyre42
@deathpyre42 10 лет назад
But it is an actual cultural piece, one that has it's exact dimensions calculated by legions of insane nerds. (I love those guys.)
@nucleartime
@nucleartime 10 лет назад
deathpyre42 You misunderstand my point. Cultures do not have "exact dimensions" for their weapons. The Bat'leth is a type of weapon, not a specific weapon. Can you give me the exact dimensions of a halberd? No, because it's not any one specific weapon. It's like saying, the "exact dimensions" of a human. Or for that matter, a Klingon. You can have the exact dimensions of the actor of a specific Klingon, but that doesn't apply to all Klingons. There are variations between Bat'leth, you don't need exact dimensions.

I've been a blacksmith armourer for 30 years. I've made weapons for over 200 feature films. This is Man at Arms. I'm a big Star Trek fan who has made Klingon weapons before, I usually forge a bat'leths the traditional way by dipping locks of my ponytail into the lava flows of the Kri'stak volcano, this however will be the first time I forge the blade using Earth methods.

Your show is really cool, you make some really awesome pieces. I dont get why you smash glass bottles though. The whole point of cuting through stuff is to show how sharp the edge is. The fruit and soda bottles are good for this, cause you cut through them. You can see the cut mark/slash line. Glass just shatters no mater what hits it. You get the same result with a blunt stick as you do with one of your finely sharpened blades. The glass serves no purpose, and really just looks stupid. One more thing, and I hope this doesnt come off wrong, why dont you forge your steel? Like making a bilet and start from that instead of a sheet of premade steel? Im sorry but in my mind that makes you more a machinist then a blacksmith. Great job though, you have an awesome skil.
@Valiordruid
@Valiordruid 10 лет назад
Forging steel is a very time and resource-intensive business; you need immense amounts of metal to make it worthwhile to continuously operate a forge, and the equipment to make solid steel doesn't come cheap. Let alone the issue of just gathering the metals necessary; you'd need a lot of iron for the base and nickel at the very least as an alloy for cheap steel, or stronger and far more expensive stuff like titanium if you wanted really tough steel. It's simply not viable, especially not for a guy running a small business with a few friends.

Nice work. But for the average person who can't afford your level of quality, there are makers, in China, Thailand and Pakistan who make Bat'leths that are effective weapons. I've been a martial artist for over 50 years, a serious blade collector , designer and practitioner for 45 years; ex-cop, Dept. Of State advisor, have used blades in defense. I have Bat'leths in 48" and a couple in 24" The 24's are 1060 carbon and razor-sharp. For defense, you would be going through flesh, no torture tests, cutting wood , etc. So-- no heat-treating required. The 24" is a fantastic weapon that if used by an experienced, trained person , could defend against up to three attackers. Think about it: you have multiple razor edges, plenty of weight and myriad spins and moves. I realize it's from the great Star Trek, but in sharp steel, it's a real weapon. Easily carried in a vehicle. So, the next time some guy in a road rage incident gets out of his car with a baseball bat, whip out the Bat'leth. That should make any sane person turn around.
@HazzardFlame
@HazzardFlame 9 лет назад
I'm sad. I love that you did a functional Bat'leth, but the knock-off that you copied was the wrong damn shape and that's what pisses me off about all of the ones for sale... look at the prop Worf uses, the back edge is the same arc all the way around... all of the fakes, like the one you copied, are too strait and flat... you lose the proper fighting technique the Bat'leth with a shape like that.

If we’re invaded by aliens, I’m willing to bet Klingon will end up the universal human language as a result of codetalking from the war. And for morale reasons.

I am a fan of swords from movies. One move that I like is Called "The Sword and the Sorcerer" The two blades that I would like to see you attempt is the sword of King Cromwell and the Sword of Talon( called a Sly sword) It has three blades the center blade is the longest and the blades on either side can be projected. It also has a dagger in the hilt of the blade.

There are several other cool star trek weapons. The Jem'Hadar Kar'takin, the Vulcan Lirpa and for the ultimate one, the Sword of Kahless. It's my birthday and I would like nothing more than that :)

Hey, I just saw the movie Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. I suggest you do the "Sands of Time" dagger. Use crucible steel folded over 300-400 times, shaped and engrave all the detail then etch and polish the blade. That would be Cool!!

The Vulcan Lirpa? basically a staff with a half-moon blade on top? the flat part of the half-moon would be facing down, the blade right on top.
