probably one of the best tutorial I have ever watched about fly tying. Clear, not too log, essential and, most important, you really se what has to be done from a pretty close point of view. Should be an example for most fly tiers. Bravo

I've been tying for more years than I care to admit and I just want to thank you for your videos. Seems us old dogs can learn a few new tricks. :)

This is perhaps the best or at least, one of the best videos of fly tying that is available. The clarity of photography, detail and sound is "spot on"! Thank you very much for your efforts to produce a high quality video; looking forward to viewing more of your videos.Thank you very much for the opportunity.

I probably have a dozen of your videos bookmarked. They are ALL exceptional; the best I have seen. I'm pretty sure your first name is Tim and you are somewhere in New Jersey. I wish I were closer so that I could thank you personally for sharing your outstanding skills; not only as a fly tier, but an a teacher as well. Additionally the quality of the audio and video make your demonstrations a pleasure to watch. This one is no exception. Not only is it the best I have seen on tying the Klinkhamer, it also serves as a wonderful primer for tying parachute flies Thanks again.

Easily the best and most co-incise instructions for one of my all time favourite emerger flies. As well as the original tan version, I tie a dark brown version and it is extremely effective. Thanks for the superb video.

Thanks Cailean, glad you liked it. I too am fond of the dark brown version but rather than dubbing, I'll switch over to pheasant tail dyed dark brown and use the black thread tag as a counter wrapped rib. I almost tied it that way in the video but instead went with the original.

Great, no dogma in fly tying. Gives me ideas for using different hooks for this pattern. Also your illustrated technique for the hackle is appreciated. Thanks

I was surprised to hear you say how long the Klinkhamer has been around. I just saw it for the first time a week ago, and plan to use it while Tenkara fishing as it really looks like a great pattern. It looks a little intimidating to tie, but as usual, your video(s) have relieved some of the initial apprehension. Thanks once again

An easy no nonsense tye with clear and concise instructions. I tyed my first klinkhammers after watching this so thanks heaps for a very good turorial. I added a slight variation by mixing a small amount of angel hair into the dubbing for sparkle and for a mayfly specific variation i tyed in a 3-pronged splayed tail (using moose hair). Gonna test them out later in the week. The greyhounds are in the trap!

Once again, another fantastic video :) I pretty much accredit you as the person who taught me how to tie flies. If not for you and your ability to clearly explain and go into depth on so many tricks and tools of the trade then I doubt i'd even have kept tying. Can't wait to tie this up, i don't have the right hooks for it but its always sounded like a winner and i'm glad you did a video! Thanks!

You have the best videos out there. So clear and easy to follow and your voice over is the best. Would you please share where you get that awesome UV resin dispenser/torch? Such an elegant solution.

I love your use of the English language. Rich but not pretentious. A real pleasure to listen to you. Would you mind letting me know if/how you treat your Klinkhamers prior to the first cast? Would you submerge in a silicone solution, or use some gel or wax? Many thanks. Alms

Thank you for putting up a video of the klinkhammer, the tutorials I have seen have all been bad image quality and very uninformative, but your videos look and are EXCELLENT. I have had a little trouble tying the klinkhammer, I've been using a hook size 16 and they always get a little messy, will try out a number 12 now. And making a ramp with the polypropylene was a great tip, will try that out as well... Anyways many thanks, and greetings from Finland!
@tightlinevideo
@tightlinevideo 9 лет назад
Glad you like the video. Once you get a couple of size 12s looking right, you should have no problem dropping down to a 16 and smaller. Do decrease the number of peacock herls for smaller sized hooks. I probably should have mentioned that in the video.

Great video;very well explained [how and why] Nice techniques ,just one question ;would not a lighter thread be more appropriate under light tan dubbing??;Thanks Earl
@tightlinevideo
@tightlinevideo 9 лет назад
Yes, it probably would, but the lighter color shows up too much when wrapped over top of the peacock herl. I'm quite sure the trout wouldn't mind, but it takes away from the visual appeal of the fly. Black thread just seems to disappear when wrapped through peacock herl. I guess you could run over a lighter colored thread with a black marker before going over top of the herl. May have to give that one a try. Thanks.

For a little added strength, coat the post with a light coat of head cement or super glue seconds prior to wrapping the hackle. Wind the hackle counter-clockwise, as this pulls it tighter when you tie it off.
@tightlinevideo
@tightlinevideo 8 лет назад
See- ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-y-7XX-xPuTA.html for a more glue oriented method of posting and hackle wrapping. Can't agree with you on the counter wrap of the hackle. Hackle is best wrapped in the same direction you will be whip finishing on the post. This way the hackle wraps are actually being tightened during the whip finish as opposed to being pushed open.
@handcannon1388
@handcannon1388 8 лет назад
I actually don't whip finish on the post; instead I tie the hackle off on the shank,complete the thorax, and tie a small head at the front of the fly - whip finishing there. I will admit that I use dubbing for the thorax, though. My apologies. I won't bother you again.

what are your thoughts on wanting the section that sits below the water dubbed with something that absorbs/sinks better than superfine?
@HalfInsaneOutdoorGuy
@HalfInsaneOutdoorGuy 11 месяцев назад
not pro pro-tip. Use a small wipe of UV resin and cure it hard at the very start of the post, it will wick up the post an 1/8th inch or so (depending on how much you use) and make wrapping the hackle 1000X easier.

I assume in this size and color it is a caddis emerger? Could you tie this small enough to be a midge?
@tightlinevideo
@tightlinevideo 9 лет назад
Yes, to the caddis emerger. Yes, they work really well as midge patterns but use only one peacock herl or replace it with dubbing when you go super small.
@takeandput
@takeandput 9 лет назад
Alan; Looks to me that you could use our #22 trico for this pattern, clipping the tails if necessary for an emerger look. It'll sit in the film like an emerger that has yet to metamorphize. You laso could soak it a bit to have it sit under the surface, greasing all but the last two feet or so of tippet to kep it from sinking too far. Jim
