Älskad och hatad
Den 28 februari 1986 sköts Olof Palme ihjäl på öppen gata i Stockholm. Mordet har i decennier överskuggat bilden av personen. Nu kommer filmen om Palme. En berättelse om en människa, en politiker och hans tid. Om en man som förändrade världen och historien.
Olof Palme liknar ingen annan svensk politiker, varken före eller efter honom. Han var överklassmannen som var med och skapade världens mest jämlika land. Älskad och hatad. Alla hade en åsikt om Palme. I filmen ger politiska motståndare, internationella statsmän och partikollegor sin bild av politikern Palme.
För första gången medverkar också hela familjen Palme i en film. De berättar om hur det var att leva med Sveriges mest kända politiker. Hur det påverkade livet. Hur hatet drabbade även barnen.
Regissörerna har haft tillgång till familjen Palmes privata super8-filmer, vilka aldrig tidigare visats offentligt, och till ett gediget material från SVT. Palme är den mest dokumenterade personen i SVT:s arkiv, näst efter kungen.

Jag är inte socialdemokrat, men måste ändå hålla med Olof Palme, politik är inte bara jaja och häpp häpp och tycka synd om mig. Hoppas att socialdemokraterna begriper det här. Man måste ha någon slags slagfärdighet även om man är politiker.

Kolla in Romarrikets Marcus Cicero, precis som Palme var han en grymt bra retoriker och precis som Palme var han slagfärdig som bara den. Dock var han liberalkonservativ (eller hade varit idag, varken socialism, liberalism eller konservatism existerade ju inte då.)

Palme criticized both the US and the Vietcong. Watch his 1969 interview with David Frost, on youtube. He did, however, make harsher criticisms of the US since they were, in his own words, "the main obstacle to peace in the Paris Accords". As for the "romanticism", I find that those who romanticize Palme are far more educated than the idiots who romaticize Kissinger or Reagan.

Å, jag tycker det är så jobbigt när politiker börjar med förtal mot andra enskilda politiker. Kan de inte hålla sig till politiken och föra fram sina punkter på goda och hederliga sätt?

I was there in October 1983..and with business its not only big business but small family businesses also..Palme had sick ideas and even sicker interest in the socialist third world like Tanzania,Cuba and Vietnam.

As for Gorby, had he not passed his reforms, whatever intensions he had, the USSR would have taken much more to crumble and Reagan would never have had the credit. Some other American president would have demanded credit (perhaps Obama?) without doing anything significant to deserve it. From what I remember, Kennedy's speech in Berlin was much more potent than Reagan's and so was his behaviour during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Yet, neither of these things brought down the USSR.

When you lived in Sweden when Palme was alive i guess that you didnt was poor, because you lived on Östermalm. Then ofcourse you didnt like Palme and hated him and wanted him to die, because you didnt earn as much money as you did before Palme. But if you look around you will see that Palme helped allot of the workingclass people. And i understand that Palme didnt like the US government after the mass murders of civilians durning the Christmas bombings in Vietnam 1972...

I happened to visit the USSR in 1975 and the USA from 1978 onwards, several times..the USA with its complexity and its problem is N O T H I N G like the poor USSR, absolutely not..the problem are western intellectuals who never visited the USSR but the USA critizing it for everything..the USSR was an economic failure from the start...all their "reforms'" and sacrifices and what didn t go places...

The evil empire was collapsing before Reagan was even elected, since the end of the Cuban Missile Crisis. The Soviet economy was collapsing in major areas. Reagan happened to be president when it finally did collapse, but this could have happened earlier, in the 70s. It is Gorby's Perestroika and Glasnost that deserve praise, for smoothening the process, not Reagan's opportunism. Again, Palme criticized both sides of the Vietnam War, but the Americans more so, because they were the invaders.

The USSR nedeed time to go bankrupt..the Cuban-Castro regime costed the USSR a fortune everyyear to keep alive despite that Castro was a useless administrator..that is shown today when he, instigates "reform" and allows what he previously held to be blasphemy...Reagan was not any academic, any talker..he in his simple ways and wth his simple mind, did things..as the myth for a long time had been that the USSR was a superpower which Gore Vidal in the 1950S concluded it was not..and it wasn t ...

I have not said that I adore western leaders..and the USA has huge economical interests which the small swedes don t have or can t capitalize on..Palmes Sweden had no business in Cuba,Campouchea,DDR...nor him,smiling traveling the world and cajoling with Iranian mullahs,Khadaffi,Arafat or Castro...Sweden is very dependent for its economical survival of exports to Germany(former West) and the USA...not Cuba, the defunct DDR...in India Plame did the opposite of what he believed in..

as a journalist also met Palme at different times and i never experienced any hate against the United States peoples, only their politicians. i had political discussion with him and i experienced he's hard ways of argumenting. And ofcourse palme tried to build a socialist nation... after all he was a Democratic Socialist... something that you should know.

Yes Kennedys speach was potent but it took the wall some 30years after that to crumble..the swedish S-party was sceptical to western germany with its democracy,strong economy but sympathetic towards the totalitarian and poor DDR with its soviet-cloned economy on german soil.

Palme thought that about the khmer-rouge and he thought that about the iranian theocracy, despite signs of brutality that he (Palme) choose to ignore..and Palme was very quiet of this genocide and also the smaller genocide of his friends, the north vietnamese and their anti-chinese purges..

Correct. Palme's backing of Castro is a dark stain on his career. Now, let's see the many stains on the careers of the "western democratic leader"s you adore. All American presidents starting with Truman backed various dictators in the Middle East, Latin America and Southeast Asia. Let's list some of them. Trujillo, Pinochet, Batista, the Shah, Hussein, bin Laden (Reagan in the 80s), Ngo Dinh Diem, all criminal Arab dictators of Saudi Arabia, Mubarak, Gaddafi, ben Ali, etc. Superb, isn't it?

Yeah well the US have commercial interests in the middle east..they also have short memory and changing administrations..but I prefer the Shah to the current mullahs..the Shah didn t threaten his neighbours wheres the mullah don t do anything else..Saddam was a go-and -do it yourself maniac who took hlp from all sides in th Iraq-Iran war which h started. Didint see Willy Brandt or Aldo Moro giving their support to any dictators..the french did in africa and middle east, for business.

I personally dislike Kissinger and I lived trough the Reaga-era which wasn t romantic at all, but with Reagans staunch anti-communism together with the Polish Pope,eventually led to this evil empire collapsing. Palme admits at a speach in "karhuset"1968 that north vietnam isn t a democracy..what have since emerged was that Ho s northvietnam was a dictatorship that killed some1million people...the swedish socialists had a romantic and naive admiration for third world socialist movements.
