I didn't cover amplification in the video - and actually they aren't that fussy which is great! You can drive them with anything! So whether it's a gooey warm tube, a nice bit of class A or hammeringly powerful class D - it's all good. Season to taste as they say! 🙂

Another great review! Appreciate that there is a channel dedicated to getting great sound in a small room - I have a similar set up and always wondered about the Klipsch Heritage line. Love the comparisons to other speakers like the Cornwall and the Dynaudio Heritage Special... helps keep everything in perspective.

May I add? Just discovered you presentation on the Forte' 4's and was happy to hear your honesty and how they did not work in your space. I have these speakers in the distressed Oak and lambs wool grills. My space is 24 x18' and I tried them at Klipsch's recommended distance from the front wall and they simply did NOT make much bass at all. I set up a sine wave generator to my reference frequency and a DB meter at my listening spot 20' feet back. As I pulled the speakers into the room, the bass began to increase! By the time a got to just over 3' the low end response on the DB had substantially peaked ! These speakers can play quite low when in a large listening room. My test signal was set to 27 Hz., a bit below their rating but even so, still filling the room. They are set at 12' apart with NO toe in. Very large stereo image and sound stage can be had with this spacing without toe in. I listen to mostly orchestral recordings, but prog rock, electronic ambient to string quartet are also enjoyed. I find the Forte' is well rounded enough to play most anything you through at them. My amplifier is the Willsenton R8 in 'triode' mode. The Forte's are sitting right along side the Martin Logan Classic 9's from the MasterPiece series and I really enjoy the differences between an 'old school' design and an 'exotic' 😊. I wrote Roy Delgado about the possibility of 'oiling' the rough finish on these speakers, and he wrote back saying they have a lacquer finish on them and discouraged me from putting anything on them. There you have it. Thanks again for your thoughts on a really great Heritage speaker!

Great review! You are a very brave man to try such large speakers in a small room. Its quite easy to overload my room with large speakers. I usually do stand mounts and subs for this reason. I’ve recently been trying panel speakers, magnepans to be specific. They work very well in my small room.

I agree that appropriate sized speakers for your space is always the better way to go…but I do enjoy trying to push the boundaries of what’s possible, even if it doesn’t always work out! Thank you for the kind words btw! 😃 👍

@@SmallRoomAudio I absolutely agree with pushing boundaries. Everything I read seemed to suggest Magnepans need more room then I had, but they somehow ended up sounding fantastic in my small room.

I have a pair J M Reynaud, Cantibile (Not sold in UK?) very nice floorstanders and a pair of Klipsch RP-600M on stands in office area. I'm going to sell everything and start from scratch with a good low powered amp and Heresy 4's. Was blown away at my local showroom with vocals. I don't like subwoofers much. bass extension seems fine on this later model?

I'm very glad to have found this channel and this review. I have been going back and forth between the Heresy IV and the Forte IV. My listening area is 13' x 6'. The speakers would go along the 13' wall. I was afraid the Fortes might overwhelm my space. I can get some used Fortes for about the same price as new Heresys. This will be my last speaker upgrade, so I want to make sure to make the right choice. I currently have Golden Ear Triton 7s.

Love your channel. I actually found it when I was researching gear (particularly speakers) for my own small dedicated room. For reference, my room is 14’ X 12.5’ so pretty small. I ended up buying Klipsch Cornwall IVs. I really wanted La Scalas but a little (okay a lot) more $ than I could reasonably afford. I love horns, even in a large room, but was drawn to them for the small room application because, as you pointed out to a couple of the snarky commenters here, they are very directional, thereby minimizing sidewall reflections. I considered the Forte IV due to their smaller footprint but knowing that I’d be placing my speakers on the “long” wall, I knew I wouldn’t have the space to pull them far enough away to make space for the rear passive radiator. The front ports in the CW IV just seemed a better fit. It looks like you had the Fortes on the short wall giving you more space to pull them away a bit, but sounds like it wasn’t quite enough.

@danhirshler4387 How have the Cornwall IV's worked out? Do you feel like they work well in your space? If buying again would you make the same choice?
@dannyfannyfoodle
@dannyfannyfoodle Год назад
@@thetakeout They’ve worked out great and honestly I think they work better in a smaller room than even many stand mounts would. Two things that, I believe, make them very compatible with a small room is the focused dispersion of the horns that keeps away side reflections and allows near sidewall placement. And the other advantage is the front tractix ports that allow relatively near front wall placement. I have mind pulled out about 18-24” from the front wall.
@thetakeout
@thetakeout Год назад
@@dannyfannyfoodle When you say front wall placement are you speaking of how far you have their backside from the wall? I'm guessing Im missing what you mean when you say front wall. I have been debating between Klipsch Herritge models. i know I like the sound of the Cornwall IV the best but I've been concerned about them overloading the room!
@dannyfannyfoodle
@dannyfannyfoodle Год назад
@@thetakeout Yes, front wall meaning the wall directly behind the speakers, so the back of my Cornwalls are about 18-20” from that wall which puts the front baffle of the speakers almost 3’ from the wall behind them. You can put them just a few inches from the wall if needed, but I think you get a nicer soundstage and better bass definition by pulling them away from the wall if you can. I really don’t think you need to worry about “overloading” the room with bass. The designer of Tekton speakers (Eric Poklar or something?) says the whole “overloading” thing is nonsensical. Either the low frequency wave will be too long to propagate in a smaller room, in such case they’re not an issue, or they won’t. He says Moabs in a small room are not an issue. In fact, I’ve seen a couple of his videos where he makes the case that a large speaker in a small room is preferable. In any case, if that is your hesitation, I would put that worry to rest. I think the Cornwall and LaScala are probably the two best suited Heritage models for a smaller room. Heresy is obviously a reasonable choice as well, but (in my opinion) they don’t deliver what the larger Heritage models do. They can’t create the same size, scale, and completely effortless dynamics of something like the Cornwall.

I purchased the Forte IV's after listening to them, and the Cornwall IV's in a dealers sound room. When I set them up in my home, I must admit, I was somewhat disappointed in the sound. It was definitely different than what I heard in the listening room at the marketers. I now attribute it to the fact that the new speakers in comparison to the ones in the listening room, have not been broken in yet. As the hours started to build up on my new speakers the sound began to change as it did also change with the positioning of the speakers. Forte IV's are now developing more of a bass sound than they had originally. I had been thinking about getting a subwoofer due to the lack of bass response, but this lack of bass is rapidly changing as the sound of these speakers are evolving. Overall, I am very pleased with the purchase, and I'm looking forward to many years of service from them. They are high-quality speakers and the Walnut veneer finish of the cabinets is beautiful. You can tell that quality control is important to Klipsch. I bi-wired my speakers and they are driven by a Yamaha A-S3200 integrated amplifier. My listening room is 14x16 feet with 8 foot ceilings.

Imaging and audiophile comments are indeed a surprise, the Cornwalls definitely don’t image. The Forte samples you have are handsome (in a retro way as you pointed out). The Cornwalls were superb with tube amps, quite sensitive to amplification. I have always wondered if the Fortes would be good cost effective speakers for 300B amps.

Get a Vincent SV-237MKII class A hybrid for 3k or Luxman class A amp if you can afford it. I tried the tube set amp as well on my IV's and many songs were harsh and too sharp with overboosted mids and highs to the point of distortion. You will not believe your ears with the bass weight added to all music and better balance. Class A 150w and you want to crank it because it doesn't hurt your ears like 2.3 watt set amp can on certain songs. It may sound crazy but horn speakers are very transparent and while they may sound big and dynamic with just about anything, they only sound RIGHT with class A in the chain (plus tubes as well even better like with Vincent hybrid's pre). Class A is only thing that rid of the horny harshness on some songs. Just tubes is too finicky no matter how many rectifier tubes you try you will never get the proper weight (balls) like comes from class A. I was extremely frustrated having spent many thousands on other SS and tube amp, dacs, etc. until I tried the Vincent. I'd imagine Macintosh SS would sound good to but I didn't want to pay the entry. The right amplification can absolutely transform these from unlistenable on some songs into an almost perfect speaker IMO.
@davidwald2938
@davidwald2938 Год назад
@@klepp19 how off does your musician friend think they are for electric guitar. Enough that he wouldn't recommend them for rock? I only heard what I own (KEF, Wharedale, and these). Forte's are by far my favorite but more due to scale and dynamics/SPL than accuracy or instrument tone as I'm not good at judging that but I know what sounds good and being able to play classic rock loud is my number one criteria for any speaker.
@klepp19
@klepp19 Год назад
@@davidwald2938 Well keep in mind it has to do with the recording but as my buddy has pointed out in my system which I only use tubes. There is some interaction that causes a loss of power when reproducing an electric guitar. Play song "Cold" by Chris Stapleton and his electric guitar on my speakers seem less full and fat than what I hear live and what I heard from say Magico A5 with Constellation electronics which to me is more accurate than my system. But acoustic guitar is good on Fortes. Fortes are basically a $25k usd speaker. Play songs from City and Colour and you get an idea of acoustic guitars. I'm being really critical hear as no system can do a live guitar but Forte get you closer than so many more speakers. The key of the Fortes is they are not lean and lacking in weight. My distant friend Vincent Belanger who is cellist and biased towards Audio Note has heard those Dynaudios and they are lean and small sounding and lacking in scale, even though they may have beautiful highs, as even reviewer says. Btw I am getting Cornwalls IVs in two weeks!☺️
@davidwald2938
@davidwald2938 Год назад
@@klepp19 congrats on the Cornwalls! As they are similiar it tells me you have a very high opinion. I listen to Cold and hard to say cause new to me. I think my SET amp is probably more accurate but I just prefer the exagerrated weight my Vincent provides for hard rock. Country,, jazz , blues and voices image perfectly and sound amazing which makes these hard to beat, but sometimes that breathiness has odd effects with certain rock and pop. I was actually going to wrap the horns with dynamat to try and sweeten some of sharpness. Maybe best just to use certain amps for certain types of music. Yamaha with piano, SET with country and blues, Vincent with Rock and Pop.

I swear to God the sound of breaking in speakers is absolutely ridiculous.. just listen to the damn things in time if you believe in break and they will break into the meantime enjoy what you listen to and spend a lot of money and your speakers and don't worry about break-in timeline clips themselves does not recommend breaking time to make your speakers sound the way they should they found the way they shouldn't do right out of the box.. so let's see if everybody gets it and stops BSN about so-called time breaking with speakers it's all just crap😊😊😊😊
@pnichols6500
@pnichols6500 6 месяцев назад
Apparently and obviously you have never owned a speaker that needs breaking in, the Fortes definitely do. I started playing mine and after awhile I had to go to the store, my wife was in the front room on the computer and when I got back the speakers had changed from when I left. But the proof is my wife, who's not and audiophile comes in and said in the middle of a song the sound opend up dramatically and if that was possible? She had actually heard the bass drivers break free, and the speakers change. So your opinion is not based in fact, just something someone told you and now you embarrass yourself trying to be smarter than people that actually are.
