We've had tons of questions about the new generation compared to the old. Is it just a cosmetic difference? Is it a big enough change to upgrade? Should I buy the old or the new? Well we are here to answer those questions today! Or at least to hopefully guide you in the right direction!
Last week we covered the RP-8000F Gen 1 Vs Gen 2. If you haven't seen that, make sure you check it out! This week we dive into the RP-504C Gen 1 vs 2. What are the differences and similarities? Which one sounds the best? Watch to find out and let us know what you think in the comments!
As always, thanks for watching!

The treble is noticiably higher on the previous gen and more natural on gen 2. I prefer Gen 2 as that calms the speaker down especially for movies.

The real test is what they sound like with a movie. You can blast music though a CC and it can sound great, but what about dialogue especially when it's a quiet scene.

I was of this same mindset until we did the 504 vs 64 a while back. We tested with a lot of TV and demo content there. There were some subtle differences in Movies/video that we noticed but, really everything could be seen/show using a variety of music content. Added perk is we can actually let the audience listen too with this type of content. -Jason

Greetings from a fellow home theater enthusiast and audio engineer! First, thank you for an awesome video! - What an interesting speaker comparison! Same, yet different! It's in the end the matter of who likes exactly what flavor here, but personally I also like v2 better as a _center_ channel speaker. Tho, it would be a fun to experiment with v1 as front L/R main speakers with v2 as a center! 😜 Couple of ideas for the future - maybe upload the uncompressed audio files from the mic to somewhere where viewers can download them. RU-vid does pretty well on turning your beutiful audio to mush (140 kbps AAC-LC in this case) . Extra points for mentioning the make/model of the mic used to record the samples - so us DSP-nerds can reverse-IIR some of the mic's characteristics out of the sonic picture while listening. Keep on rocking!
@TopShelfAudio
@TopShelfAudio Год назад
Thanks for watching! Thats an idea! That said, theres no way itll ever be anything like in room. We've toyed with the idea of improving the setup to get as close as possible but, our primary focus is the commentary and, at some point, viewers are going to need to hear them in person for themselves. As for the mics, We arent using the best as...end game is youtube so, not much point in doing so unless we go the route you mention and release the audio file separate. For the mic on the speakers, we use a Sterling ST131. For lapels we use sennheiser ME2-II with wireless kits. Think that answered everything but feel free to ask anything else youd like :) -Jason

RP-504C / RCL, YUP! I have two 504C as timber matched R/L, standing vertically on dual SVS SB3000. This set up timber matches the 504C center speaker very well. I use vibration feet on the vertical 504C to keep them steady. Being a 2.5/3 way speaker the dialog from all three speakers blends seamlessly with plenty of Klipsch attack and forward sound stage. At the closeout price of $340 ea, this is a very clear, detailed sound stage with tight in your face detailed bass from the SB 3000. I tweeked them with internal graphic eq, distance, frequency and individual volume to set them up and WOW does this front sound stage sound great for not much money! I never run speakers flat, so tweek all you need to get them personalized to your ears.

Thanks very helpful. They are very close, gen2 is clearer and better in the mids, but not significantly. In Canada they are normally about $250 apart in price, not sure if the difference is worth that, but Gibby's Electronics just put the gen 2 on sale for the weekend, ($120 off) so for that Id go for the newer one.

@@TopShelfAudio yes! while I don’t use it for music unless a movie has it there, mine was specifically to replace my RC-62 which would screech my ears with some voices. The 504C-II was beautifully balanced in that regard. You guys just proved it exceptionally well with music and I appreciated that!

Now that I own both, I can honestly say that I definitely like gen 2 more overall, especially in the vocal region, which is why I got it. @@orionzey- I personally found deep male vocals on the gen 1 to be a bit muddy/blurred or hard to understand at times, which I believe was due to a more resonate cabinet, and a slightly less balanced frequency response. I liked the video, good to know what you guys think about the differences after having the chance to listen them both at the same time. Any chance that you could make a "session" between the gen2 RP-8000F and Polk's R700 / Gen2 Klipsch RP-504C and Polk's R400 center channel? They are at very similar price range, both have good reputation and both line-ups are very new. I have just received my Onkyo TX-RZ50, and now battling between the two brands (Klipsch-Polk). Maybe you could make a comparison playing some music and also some movies. Maybe one is better for movies, the other for music or maybe one is just superior all around. Could use some help to make the right choice 😀

I already have the 504c paired with the 600M as front speakers. Next year I move to a house and I will use the 600M as rear speakers. My plan was to buy the new 8000f II and using then as the new front speakers combined with the 504c. Is it still a good choice to pair the new 8000f II with the old 504c or would you recommend buying the old 8000f ? I mean I would mostly listen to music in stereo with a sub. The center and front speakers would only play together in movies and series. So old or new 8000f ? I can't afford to update the center. it's only 2 years old.
