KLM 747 - Final Visit to St. Maarten (SXM) on 10/28/2016 

747 probably one of the most beautiful aircraft ever..gracefull

I had the privilege of seeing up close, Being clinging to the fence and feeling all this emotion. 747, SXM will miss you.

To me personaly B747 always stays "Queen Of the Sky" despite A380 is bigger and newer.I just love this aircraft,its just so beautiful^^

The 747-400 is starting to close it's chapters as many airlines are stopping routes, and stopping production on the 747-400. You Will Be Missed, Queen of The Sky!

Very crowded on Maho Beach, but for a good reason. I've seen the 747 a few times in SXM, and it will certainly be missed in future visits.

This is not the final flight for KLM's 747-400 or others still in service today. It's just for this particular route from Amsterdam. it is no longer economical for KLM to fly the 747-400 for this route. that being said, it will be missed at St. Martin. It was literally one of the biggest attractions there.

I was crying when I saw this last take off.

Got up 2am in Australia to watch, brought a tear to my eyes. Like air traffic control said...... will be missed!

I've been very lucky to witness about a dozen landings and takeoffs of KLM 747-400's over the years when I've been vacationing on the island.....it has always been a 'must do' item for me. Standing on the beach, right under the landing path and seeing that huge aircraft on a low approach and roaring right overhead, is just an incredible rush of adrenaline that never gets old for me. I'll be heading back to SXM early next year and will get my first taste of seeing KLM's A330's arriving and departing. Now, the largest aircraft to fly to SXM are Air France's A340's. Yes, they are impressive in their own right, but definitely not to the degree of a Boeing 747.

Great turnout for the final departure! I was there on Oct 23, 2016 for the final Sunday departure and what a thrill it was getting blasted by a 747!!

It has always been on my bucket list and was ticked last year thank God.

Another great icon and bucket list challenge gone....we just lost our Antarctica Qantas 747 sightseeing flights here in Australia.....so many Queens gone ...

This was the one thing I wanted to see in life, a 747 takeoff from St Maarten. Now it will never happen :( Such a sad day for all aviation fans. The 747 is what made this airport what it is. It will never be the same. That being said, it was a great run with the 747. KLM did a smart move using that plane for so many years. A great advertising technique and looks absolutely amazing. I was a pilot on Embraer ERJ 135/145 and was a mosquito in comparison to this wonderful B 747-400.. it just has to be the most gracefully heavy aircraft ever built! All heavy long haul aircraft made ever since are for sure having the 747 as the predecessor

I am very sorry I had not the chance in my life to fly with a Boeing 747 to St. Maarten. And, I agree with Elias Dolinsek who said "St. Maarten without 747 is not the same".

This actually wasn't klm's last 747. Around september of 2017 after hurricane irma devestated our island, the queen of the skies came once again to assist in evacuation of dutch citizens. I never really knew how much i miss having a 747 around after watching this!
