I'm going to go out on a limb here and say this is simply a symbol of accepting death, or more likely suicide hence the title. "I never wanted to be" (this way) You have a swordsman who seems trained and like an unstoppable force coming up against a man who is beaten and battered willingly extending his wrists to be cut. The swordsman is life, compromised of our own self destruction and that which destroys us from the outside. The beaten man is either the artist himself, or just any given person living with severe depression. Notice the sense of apathy in the eyes of both individuals. Death spares no one and has no sympathy, and suicide is typically done out of constant emotional torture resulting in apathy. The beaten man was ready to die but didn't cut his own wrists.. The symbolic forces within his own life did AKA the swordsman. Nobody wants to be depressed or suicidal, trust me. No one would ever want to be this way. That is why this title is so ingenious.
