Thanks for the super awesome video and the attention to detail. I found my bypass valve was stuck until I exerted more pressure than I believe it should have taken.Since this is the first time I have changed it I have no idea how long it may have been that way. Good rule.. buy a used bike.. change the oil right away no matter whom you buy it from.

Just a stupid question: Why not use some of the new oil to lubricate each end of the new filter?

I use Rotella 15-40 diesel oil and it works great. I got the recommendation from the klr650dotnet forums. Your mileage may vary - I live in a hot and dry part of the country.

I was told by the mechanics at my local Kawi dealer to loosen the doohickey screw at the beginning of an oil change and snug it back up afterword to avoid problems with it. Apparently this eliminates the need to replace said doohickey.

Really appreciate this video. It will help me a lot when I change my oil. Can I ask, is there any specific reason you use Castrol? Will that lubricate the gears ok? (I think for motorcycles, the oil has to lubricate the gears too......unlike a car).....thanks.

I always get a huge spurt of oil when I open the filter cap. Even after making sure most has been drained through the bottom plug

Ok, so if your only changing the oil, not the filter, do you still take the filter out and clean the area, or do you not even take the filter out in this case?

If you don't change the oil filter, should you still take it out and clean that area? Or just don't touch it at all?

You're not using the right oil for your bike. You need something that's rated for a machine with a wet clutch... Also try to stand the bike up vertically when you read the oil level unless the manual says to check it on the side stand. Too much oil is a bad thing too.
