KMTV Omaha News Opens from the 1990s 

I was to understand that Tom was at NBC 6, if he was absolutely sure of his forecast he would say, "You can bet the house payment."

The first 3 intros actually had 2 voiceovers. At the start of these openings, there was another voiceover (an older man) saying "This is KMTV Channel 3" or something like that with the KM3TV station ID onscreen.

I actually shared this with Al Vanik himself on his Twitter page and he remembered doing this.

Woah, Tom Bevaqua, I forgot about that guy... every girl in our high school seemed to have a crush on him. This must have been before 1993 then. He left around that time.

The theme at 0:39 is KDFW 1989 News Theme.

Today, KMTV's newscasts are called "3 News Now".

He didn't say "From the News Center of the Midwest" for the 6:00 newscast. I remember him saying that. I don't remember that shot of the Omaha skyline at dusk being shown across the whole screen. I thought it was in that frame like everything else. But I do remember those graphics looking like blinds closing and opening vividly. The 6:00 news graphics were quite different from the others. I'll bet the 10:00 newscast was the same way. I don't remember since I wasn't allowed to stay up that late then.

I gotta say, after watching all 3 of the videos, KMTV looks like they were still in the mid 1970's by comparison, with those awful intros. Were they by any coincidence the 3rd rated news show during the 90's also?

This had to be before 1993 because that's when Tom Bevacqua left. In my opinion, he should've stuck around for many more years. He was very well loved in Omaha.

Tom worked REALLY long hours. He did the weather at midday, 5:00, 6:00 and 10:00. He must not have gotten much sleep. Tom was the chief meteorologist then. And the chief doesn't usually do the weather at midday if the station has a midday newscast. He (or she) usually does it at 5:00, 6:00 and 10:00/11:00. Tom was the exception in this case.
