Oh you don't have to be embarrassed. Neither did Ireland lose any credibility in my opinion. Whenever I visit Dublin it's always a bit of coming home as I've never met people more welcoming and sincere than the Irish. These things happen when economy gets worse and the gap between poor and rich gets bigger. But I have no doubt you're going to sort it out and the beautiful Ireland I got to know will prevail.

you can call the Guards and one of two things will happen. either they wont show up or approach with sirens wailing, giving the offenders time to run before they get there. I reported teenage travellers throwing stones at cars and Muslims in sligo, half an hour later no Guards to be seen, on the way home I went into the barracks to see why no one came, I was greeted by a sergeant and four guards sitting on the desk drinking coffee. The sergeant advised me they were too busy, I said it looks like it. He advised me to leave while I still could, I advised him I was recording the conversation and he slammed the doors closed. I thanked him and advised him I would be sending a copy of the recording to the police authority. Three days later I was stopped by a guarda car and accused of jumping a red light, which I didn't but it was my word against them. There are good Guards who are interested in doing their job, but in sligo we seem to get all the corrupt ones, the only time they are seen out is when they are in Lidl or some other supermarket doing their shopping, using the patrol car to bring it home
That is depressing. At least you did the right thing and let the Guarda know about something bad going on. It used to be that family men would stop stuff like that from going on in their suburbs and communities, not like violent vigilantes, but making young vandals accountable. Those guys would have stopped wrecking the concrete if men like that were around.
Where I live in clare the guards are corrupt to locals that they know and stuff that is clearly illegal they get off the hook for knowing someone in the GAA or something
i wonder why no one made a complaint to the Garda. This is an offense. Whoever they are, (knackers or whatever) these criminal teenagers do such things on daily basis. Snatching phones, demolishing public property, harassing others on streets and the local police seems conveniently oblivion to this menace. I'm a native irish knacker and over a seventeen year period I saved the life of the same disabled female three times, the first time when the health service in Ireland dumped her out onto the streets without money for food or accommodation, the second time when both she and I had been victims to systematic abuses at the hands of neighbors, a gang and the local Gardai in Sligo Town, County Sligo and the abuse was so horrendous the poor woman was left vomiting up her food and epilepsy medications, her GP and the local hospital refused to help her or I and the third time was when she attempted to end her life with an overdose of her own epilepsy medication in may 2017 and again we were being abused by neighbours and believe it or not by travelling trash from the north and england and again the Gardai played a role in that abuse which happened at two addresses in Cork City, Cork. The woman had been raped, gang raped, made pregnant twice, had her babies murdered, punched out her womb and their necks rung and she was also forced to perform sex acts on her two and a half years old sister and to add to her woes during the course of many physical assaults she had her arms broken at the elbows, her knees broke with such force the jagged bones broke the skin, her ankles broken, her feet crushed and today they are all deformed and the main culprit was her stepfather and his father was a member of An Garda Siochana, oh just as a matter of interest I worked for nineteen years on her story and for my troubles I was assaulted four time and today I suffer in pain from some of the injuries and I am also scared and physically disabled for the rest of my life so who's the knacker now people. Judgement Day Firstly my name is Philip not O'REILLY (this is how it's spelt) my mother got me baptised not pissed on .Yes a traveller (this is how it's spelt) and gypsy are similar, only difference is travellers live in caravans, gypsies live in them horse drawn carts things that do be brightly painted. And i think it was the 18/19 century they formed in Sicilly. Later at the start of the last centuary they emigrated to Ireland n England after a big fued and that's how we know have gypsies and travellers.Gypsies don't be very in settling and will stick to the old traditions, some travellers will settle as mix with settled (country) ppl. Travellers even came up with their own language (gammon) so ppl wouldn't understand them.
Anon ymous Firstly you are correct, your comment is stupid. I'm related to two of them, I'm practically related to the rest. Secondly if there was a crime committed how come they weren't arrested and charged. But I don't even have to really ask this question, if kids throw stones at each other there's clearly no crime committed until either property is damaged or a person is injured neither of which happened, my x wife and aunt to one of the kids is a GARDA, my son(from another relationship) is also there and trust me my x wife would love the opportunity to arrest the two of them.
