Until you can't run. Also what stops the guy from chasing you? He already wants to kill you if he pulled out a knife and if you're running and he's behind you, he could easily shank tf out of your back.
I think most of south east asian were very fond of knives. Even recorded in early chinese explorer this region has stab happy people in settling their differences
Very true, my family is from Baguio. This was taught to me by my father also . Don’t block the knife. Cut the hands, joints, fingers, or anything keeping him holding that knife. and if your gonna get cut, better get your veins cut then your arteries so you won’t bleed out as fast them. If you can prepare. tie some ropes around you arms as tourniquets.
The Moros down south will tie tourniquets on their arms and across the chest before combat with blades and from what I heard, even in gunfights to at least the 70s.
The one nationality I listen to closely with regards to knife combat are pinoys... My father was from San Carlos pangetzigan. You taught me many things and I have nothing but the utmost respect
Best training g I ever had was Kali. I’m a small dude like philipinos. I have no time for a larger opponent. I need to dispatch the aggressor quick, fast and decisive. That’s what I was taught in Kali.
Years ago when I was doing taekwondo I had an Asian sparring partner who really drove the point home. Really nice guy, but he had an animal in him. Had been involved in gangster stuff in the past. Every time we practice knife defense I went home covered in bruises. He helped me understand that I'll never had to awareness, speed and skill to fight someone like that. If knives come out and escape is not an option, I'll fight, but death is pretty mucv inevitable
This was why I jokingly kept asking my instructor why he calls his art a self defense system when it is basically a killing system. Because after several months of training the basic stick techniques we moved on to advanced techniques using the knife, and everything he taught me then usually ended with either stabbing my opponent in the kidneys or slitting his throat. And all this after going to his blindside and basically taking his back while standing. How the hell am I gonna justify that as self defense?
You're correct. Kali, Arnis, Escrima, whatever you call it, its not a self defense system or a martial art. Its a killing art. The defense comes when you've killed or incapacitated your enemy, not when he's still capable of fighting. Unless, of course, if you both call it quits.
True, as a filipino Kali is a traditional MA from our ancestors, it has many variations since philippines is an archipelago, so many tribesmen, but its not taught for self defense, it is meant to do for One thing , To Kill, it was passed down from tribes families generations, kali fighting was a way to settle disputes between tribes or any1 it coull be a land dispute , foodsource , oppression, invasion, etc… i remember what our grandpas story, when two practitioners of kali have their duel they will tie ropes in each hands or body to make it sure only the best will survived😂😂, cant imagine the brutality but thats how it was. But the kali that we know in modern times is evolving and its all about preservation and valued this unique MA… grandpa and his cuz served well their time 😢 cause $h8 happened when you are in a wrong place in a wrong time,,,
He hasn't taught you the final techniques of burying the body parts in different locations. On a serious note, self defense back in the times when FMA evolved was different. Back then if you got in a fight it would be in the middle of the jungle against another guy from a different tribe and the cause of the fight would've been bragging rights of who got to take home the head of the other guy.
i studied Arnis, Eskrima, and Kali for about 2 or 3 years. very challenging and difficult. but with an awesome return if you pay close attention and listen.
Lol that aint a knife fight then but good on u for standing ur ground that nigga obviously wasnt wit the shits enough to use it if he gon flee after 1 cut 😂
1000% facts and I am very good shooter at close range, mid-range and long range too. But you got to be quick on the draw. A knife fighter isn’t winning that battle period. Unless you’re Superman and we all know that’s a fairytale.
I'm not a weeb but I swear in terms of knife combat the Filipinos have it figured out. It's just cut cut cut cut cut cut cut cut cut cut cut cut cut cut cut cut cut cut cut cut cut cut
My hometown from Mindanao always has a knife and machete fights every week back in early 2000s 😂. No one mess with a butchers. Not only we are inherently good with knifes but the butchers knows the ways to bleed you fast
Always reminds me of the Movie Gangs of New York where Bill the Butcher is teaching all the killing shots. That's a kill, that's a kill, that's a kill.
YOOOOO!!!!! No bullshit, I had to watch the video like 7 times!! I swore that this was my uncle!!!! Luckily my mom was visiting me... she even had to watch it 3 times just to make sure... nahhhh, it won't my uncle... it's dam sure that this guy is my uncles doppelganger.. shit is crazy!!! U can always tell a filipino by our accent!!! We use P's in place of F's, and we use B's in place of V's😂😅
Not what I learned in knife fighting class with the Army Rangers. Once you get contact with your knife, you cut a C, and filet up. Basically, once you break skin, you don't slice deeper, you cut a piece of meat off. In this case, once he makes contact, he could cut the C, and go straight up his arm, basically skimming off the bone. He'd have half an arm left, and generally people stop fighting at that point and fall over from lack of blood to their brain. Same with a leg if you fall over. Cut the achilles, drag the blade up and take off their calf muscle. Kinda hardcore, but that's how you do real damage.
I've had a few bad situations in my life. The worst, I was shot and left for dead. Another was an attempted robbery of me and my wife Christmas shopping, when in parking lot. Once a guy came at me with a tire tool out of the blue. I was just out of high school. I was terrified but had the wit about me to pull my pocket knife, put my left arm in a defense position for my head while taking a side step and back. I said if you swing that you better hope it kills me because I'm going to cut you as deep as I can. It was like time froze and luckily for me he did not swing the tire tool. I've often thought of how close one of us or both was to death that night. Like you in training we had the 21 foot rule and were told if within that distance upon drawing your weapon, expect to get cut.
@@kentuckywindage222 did you not see the part where I said I was an Army Ranger? I learned this in training. But, I assure you I've seen far more combat than 99% of people. Once I got out, I needed more and got into muay thai. I've had 5 fights so far and am now almost 40 years old.
@@kenaultman7499 Yes Ken I saw were you said that. I'm 54 years old and have been blessed. The streets can be a rough place at times. It wasn't my intention to insult you Ken. My intention was to associate my experiences with yours. As a law enforcement officer I went back to work 2 years after being hit with a shotgun at 5 foot in my lower right flank. Loosing 1/2 my liver, one kidney, part of my intestine, busted right lung, 7 section of rib, half the muscle in my back, a hole size of a cantaloupe in my back and hole in abdominal wall. 127 shrapnel and bone fragments up and down my spine 5 in the half liver I have, 1 in my elbow and 2 in my hip etc. 2 years later I went back to work as a city officer in a small town. A few years later I retired because of health. Retired and disabled now with lots of issues. I died during this and now know there is definitely something after all this. I credit God, good doctors and nurses and training in martial arts for the meditation which taught me breathing control, control of emotions and focus. Sometimes folks experience this kind of stuff, like I did and I hope if someone who reads this has such experience, that this helps them have hope and courage to survive.
If the dude is 100 feet away from you, he's obviously not an immediate threat to you. can't shoot someone that's 100 feet away from you just because they're holding a damn knife. if you're gonna carry, learn the laws, and learn wtf your doing.
My alcoholic single mother taught me young "the first thing to know is getting past the fear of the tajo (cut)". She reminded me periodically and I can still see the lessons on my arms. Growing up in the 60's was different. Thanks for the memories ;-)
Thanks for the advice! I just tried this, didn’t really go as planned but I didn’t die (immediately, at least). Now I’m waiting in the hospital for the results but thanks man, keep it up!!🔥🔥
I hear you sir, 😂 it does ring true thats why every time we like a gurl we have to ask permission first from the parents specially the fathers or the male sib😂😂 but that was before specially in the barrios, they have what we called “pinuti” meaning a large knife or a bolo knife that so white sharp edge of the blade 😂😂😂 and they wear or bring that knife whenever or wherever they go since most of the people’s we’re working in a farm land…
It's much easier to disarm a person with a knife when you're don't have a knife on your hand. I had 3 encounters during my younger years. Maybe it's bcoz I practice daily during those time and with God's grace I was able to disarm them ❤without harming the other guy. When I was able to disarm them they did not attempt to fight back again or to inflict harm on me. Coz I already had their knifes in my hand ( those 2 guys had knife the other had a samurai). This happens on a separate situation and time. it's great also that they don't know how to use it. To God be the glory.
You’ll never know they have a knife.. you’ll get pricked in a crowd.. from the back if they are smart.. people have this weird thought in their head that knife fighters are running at you from 100 feet away.. they will pull it out when you are in a crowded group and can’t legally just discharge your gun surrounded by hundreds of people.
This is what I teach people when I teach about knife defense. If you can't run. Grab their wrist slide down 2cm & hold their hand with all your strength. Then make them extremely uncomfortable to offset their balance. Once you do, pull them down by their hand until it's on the floor step on their wrist as hard as you can & then start throwing punches at their face until they stop moving. That's your only way to make sure they won't get up & use that knife after you start walking away.
Bro that’s not always the best idea. If you told someone to go for the kill shot vs me. Every time they extend their arm to stab me ima cut tf out their arms, and win through 1000 cuts. The goal is to punish aggression. Keep the knife close to ur body. For better leverage, speed and control. So you also don’t get disarmed.
The FACT that Filipinos invented the Balisong, aka the Butterfly Knife is amazingly crazy. Also, if i see a Filipino able to flip 2 Balisongs with 1 in each hand, I'm walking away & saying "You Win"
Man thats the harder way to do knife counters in kali, the way I was taught is to push the hand into the knife and cross over like your using your arms as scissors, then you guide it it with your fore arm, and repeat for the 5 angles.
I was taught kali by a Filipino when serving in SOF and one thing I learned about that, everyone gets cut when knives are out. We used shock knives to simulate being cut. We practiced in all environments: stairwells, kitchen, offices, uneven, terrain etc it was wild.
Some of the old masters are actually convicts who have killed or survived knife attacks in their life. Some of the older ones were guerilla fighters who used arnis to kill enemies in WW2 and from what I know, our country used to have a BOLO-Man battallion, much like the historic Katipuneros, who are mainly armed with machetes and bamboo spears. My personal street experience is that those who do not train are usually the instigators, feeling strong as they are armed, have the numbers and the element of surprise. But when given an equal or stronger opposition, they would disingage and walk away. Much like predators who would not continue the hunt if the prey fights back. Unsurprisingly, I had in 2 occasions seen a fight stop and disperse by just pretending to draw a knife. That person is a pintado. Historically, the culture of pintados (tatoos), are writen stories and accomplisments in their life as tatoos. Those who know can read them. Some of those tatoos are counts of persons they have killed in headhunting.
Would you be able to pull the camera out a little bit more towards the end part because it’s unseeable the movement that he used to keep the control he’s talking about in the end, I missed it
i think hes talking about the post cut period where the arm is useless for a small amount of time and the left arm is parried and he pushes both hands down
I remember when i was a child if you walk along the streets and passerby even the by standers are have their own BALISONGS in their pocket or weighs, Sometimes those are both fearless meet, they are fighting and tighten with their own belts. Well that was the Philippines but for now it’s illegal...
I was seriously traveled all the way to where every year at and follow your process of combat proficiency tfor patients. She to a level of hard work and diligence
I was trained in self defense by my dad who was an instructor in the military and he taught me techniques to fight against knifes, but 2 thinks he made very clear: if you can get away, get away! If you can't be prepared to be cut and do this to avoid getting killed.
Great insight.👍 In a knife fight you will get cut. But to a very small degree, you can decide where you will be cut. It may come down to sacrificing a lesser cut in order to get in a lethal cut /stab.
I went to Jungle training in Panama in the early 80s. We had a couple "Blocks of Instruction " in knife fighting. These guys were insanely fast and accurate
Here are a few things you can do to get better chances of winning a knife fight: Get a sword > get a spear > Get a bow > get a crossbow > get a gun > get an assault rifle > get a nuke > get good running shoes.
