Kind of blown his cover. If he set any time even remotely good, it would have been certain there was something deeply wrong with that car. And not just custom engine. Trans Am is big and heavy. It's a grand tourer, not a track car. It's not even a sports car.

"Black cars look better in the shade". I really enjoy my '99 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP! Black, Graphite interior (Leather of course), two door. Supercharged for those that don't know GTPs. At the time I was shopping for it all I could find locally in a GTP was "some kinda green" 4-door ones with "Camel" interior. Not happening! Finally one of the dealers that had my "wish list" found an ordered car that was almost identical to what I wanted (I'd have ordered the polished wheels instead of the painted ones, and the BOSE/Monsoon sound system). Seems the guy that ordered found out he was going to be a Daddy and couldn't take the car. My dealer (actually the one I still do business with) found it was on the way to *another* dealership and worked out a swap with them for a GT that they had! Still have the GTP, with 70,000 miles on it! (Not my only car)...

Depends on if they used a KITT with the "show" interior or one with regular interior, the wheel used in the show is god-awful for actual driving.

@@raptorjesus3894 I think it's likely it's one of the cars set-up just for speed, and probably a car with an ordinary steering wheel, or even a smaller racing style wheel. And I can hear a car that has a manual transmission too - I can hear a down-shift at around 4.12, with a blip of the throttle. It sounds great.

They did have stunt car with a manual transmission at one point.

Knowing Kitt he calculated the entire track to pick the exact finish time and kept it to that.

It is quite poor acting measured in today's standards too. But that car! They made more expensive ones, faster ones and much better ones. But if l was a billionaire l would take a replica to Elon Musk and have this car converted with the latest cutting edge tech complete with a watch to call the car in. Almost like fitting a 1970's F15 with the latest tech. Bet my car would be the coolest and meanest set of wheels money can buy.😅

KITT was not adjusting the temperatures of his tires, it just show his tires getting warmed up.

Kitt can only adjust his tires air pressure, not its temperature. The tires temperature rise up because of the warm up laps he did at a slower speed first before doing the high speed lap. 🏎 💨 🔥 🔥 🔥

I still say iRacing needs to get as much footage of the track as they can and recreate it digitally. They can't exactly go laser map a shopping mall.

@@mahande88 Pretty sure they recreated it long ago. The creators of iRacing used to work for Papyrus and make the NASCAR and Indycar PC racing games back in the 90’s and NASCAR Legends which came out in 1999 had Riverside and Ontario Motor Speedway in it.

CHiP’s has a Season 3 episode with NASCAR in it at Riverside in 1979 that looks great in HD with an awesome Richard Petty 43 STP car and a rookie Dale Earnhardt Sr in it.

you know after i watched knight rider 2000 which i think that is the movie you talking about, and I seen all of KITTs part in the dump, i always wonder where did all his parts go to, then I seen an episode of Seaquest and long behold there is KITTs parts on one of the seaquest episode.

No he couldn't, K.I.T.T's top speed no matter what his configuration, was 300 MPH. All Super Pursuit Mode added was more 40% more horsepower so that K.I.T.T. could get to 300 MPH alot faster and the altered configuration made the car more stable at maintaining the speed and taking corners.

@@Longlostpuss Bonnie and Michael said that SPM will add 40% more speed, not 40% more power (horsepower). and besides KITT is less stable at higher speeds. there is an episode Many Happy Returns while KITT asks how about SPM at least it wont prolong the agony, Michael- "no can do. i need all the maneuverability i can get, SPM can not take corners fast SPM was design to give KITT more speed, theres a huge rocket thing on the back of KITT, Vents the pop out and wings to keep the car front down, All This is for Speed Not for taking corners.

@@kitt28 Bonnie didn't say a 40% in top speed, she said a 40% increase in speed - there's a big difference. Acceleration also accounts for speed. If you've got two cars that are capable of a top speed of 300 mph, but one has 200 HP under the hood and the other only has 120 HP, both cars are capable of the same top speed output, but are both cars going to be as fast as each other in a race? The answer is a resounding no, one is technically going to be noticeably speedier than the other. The car with 200 HP is going to win (especially a straight out drag race) because it has 40% more horses under the hood and will reach its top speed much quicker than the other car, seeing that speed is defined and measured as merely distance divided by time to get there. You never ever saw K.I.T.T. exceed 300 MPH in a single episode of Knight Rider, even when there were clear opportunities to, so I'm afraid you're wrong. Even his speedometer never had anything beyond 300 MPH displayed on it after he got rebuilt, when there was a clear opportunity. SPM just got K.I.T.T. to 300 MPH faster than without it. Also, the altered configuration in SPM actually CUT DOWN KITT's aerodynamicy, are you blind? The reason all those parts were popped out was to actually curb aerodynamicy and give the car more stability at the higher power. Aerodynamics dictate that you have as little air resistance around the design of an automobile as possible so that it easily slices through the air and doesn't get slowed down by pockets. SPM's physical configuration is the exact opposite of that. Standard K.I.T.T. also had a limiter on his engine, his speed was pegged unless Michael specifically told him to go faster, but you did see him get to 300 MPH in the desert scene of Topaz Connection. The rocket sound you hear after the SPM change is merely the limiter being lifted off the engine instantaneously and combustion being added to the fuel injection, K.I.T.T has always ran on liquid hydrogen, which is a rocket fuel variant, so he has always been capable of this sort of burst because the fuel was always sitting there, but wasn't practical under normal circumstances. Sorry man, don't tell me about my TV series, not having it.

@@kitt28 Speed = distance divided by time. 40% more acceleration also means 40% more gross speed, it doesn't have to mean your top speed has actually increased. Tell me one episode where K.I.T.T. exceeded 300 MPH in SPM and I'll gladly admit that I'm wrong, but I think you'll find it doesn't exist. SPM provided 40% more speed through acceleration, NOT top speed. 40% more acceleration is still 40% more speed, so K.I.T.T was 40% faster over shorter distances. KITT in SPM will beat KITT in non SPM still with a 300 MPH speed limit, even though both configs will eventually top out at the same speed. The difference is the time it takes to get there, that's it. Also, you can still technically even have a car with a 180 MPH speed limit beat a car with a 230 MPH one in a straight drag race, but if you increase the distance long enough, the 230 MPH car will eventually overtake. It's not some big puzzle to solve, you just have to know how things work. Acceleration wins out in most races, especially with cornering. Top speed only matters on straight endurance races and with all things equal, the car with the faster acceleration will always be faster, because the car with lesser acceleration will have given up too much ground at the start of the race. So 40% more acceleration is still 40% more speed. Again, you're telling me about my show and trying to tell me about going back to middle school when I've just schooled you on how speed actually works. So give me the episode where KITT got over 300 MPH in SPM, or better still, the 450MPH being claimed under this thread. it's the only counter you have left that stops you being rendered completely smoked in this conversation, especially considering you claim to live and breath Knight Rider.

"Knight Racer" is Episode 8 if you're listing Season 4's premiere episode "Knight of the Juggernaut" as Episode 1 in its feature-length format. Episode 9 if you list "Juggernaut" as Episodes 1 and 2 cuz of the syndicated 2-part version.

KITT can regulate his tire temperatures, which can affect traction. He would simply have adjusted their temps further as speed increased. Im guessing his limit on this track would have been about 240 based on the details heard in this episode.

@@kurtreber9813 No, you cannot gain more than 1-2% speed in corners just by slightly different tire pressure. In real life, most of your cornering speed relies on tire width, thread pattern, tire compound and suspension. Tire compund is the only one which might be a factor in the movie. So using the internal logic of that universe, the only explanation of his speed is that tire must be made of some “magical compound” providing ultimate traction. Tire squeal doesn’t fit into this logic.

@@juzoli This is all internal logic, of course, so I would postulate that KITT can do what other cars of his era could not: adjust a bunch of factors on the fly: suspension, tire pressure, tire temperatures, etc. This of course is In addition to the miracle compound making up the tires. That being said, the track has to be a limiting factor for KITT if he is only using his tires and suspension to stay on track (i.e., not using any rocket-like reactive control system). So tire squeal, to me, is simply KITT losing traction on a poor road surface, to which he then makes adjustments to compensate. So he could tire squeal much longer than other cars before losing control.

@@kurtreber9813 No in skilled pro racing, tire squeal is not bad, the squeal means you’re at the limit of grip. If you didn’t have any squeal then you’re going too slow, no squeal means the tires have more to give. Tires have more grip at a SMALL amount of squeal (slip) compared to no slip at all.

Lol The factory 305 Chevy engines Pontiac had to use in the 1982 Trans Ams had a whopping 145 HP which is absolutely pathetic by today's standards

I don’t understand what the given wager was. Did “one twenty” mean 1 minute 20 seconds, or hitting top speed 120mph, or attaining average speed 120mph for a lap? Is the show claiming he can beat a track record by 10 seconds(????) when they just drove past open-wheel F1 cars waiting outside?
