I think I can actually knit this sweater! Your tutorial was easy to follow and every step explained simply yet completely. I loved learning how to fix problems that may come up or avoid them all together, such as with the lifeline. That really has been what has stopped me from trying. If I made a mistake, I thought I'd have to start over and I just couldn't bear it. As a new knitter, I make more than my share of mistakes. Thank you. A thousand times, thank you!

Thank you so much for this. I did the Flax sweater watching a RU-vidr from Britain step by step but I did a size with 6 inch positive ease which Andrea Moary says she likes in her sweaters . Way too much for me because I am a 44 bust and was like 50 wide across. Was way too big. It wore me lol. I did do a cotton tee this last summer and turned out well. Just practiced a vest with a cheap acrylic yarn to practice and it is ok but hate the fabric but knew it was more to learn without investing too much on a possible mistake. I need to learn to do a bit of decreasing in the sides so it doesn’t look like a tent. I am not new to knitting but fitted garments yes except can knit socks. I am learning to go down in size more than I thought. Yarn stretches too. Looking forward to knitting this with you. I am too intimidating to take a pattern read it and understand everything for a fitted sweater. Yay 😁 Judy

Hi Clo - I wonder if I could ask you a question, please? I'm in the 7th repeat of my raglan increases (knitting 10 repeats in total) and noticed some weirdness going on in one of the sections when I was knitting and thought I had dropped stiches so 'picked up' what I thought were the dropped stitches and continued on. I counted the stitches in the section once I'd got to the end of it and have discovered I have two more than I should have (should have 44 but have 46) I think there may have been some yarn overs somewhere which threw me (I saw loops at the back of my work and thought I may have dropped stitches). How should I decrease these extra stitches? I am reluctant to continue with the round until I've fixed the stitches. Any help gratefully received! :)
@cloknits
@cloknits 20 дней назад
There are 2 options: if you don't mind that these "mistakes" stay in the work, you can simply do a decrease at the beginning and end of that section on the first row of the body or the sleeve (depending on were the mistakes are), it won't show much since it's in the armpit area. If the mistakes are distracting you from enjoying the sweater, I would undo below were there are extra stitches to start again from that point. I can tell you if it were me, I would probably keep going and call it a feature ;)
@MAS1111tube

@@cloknits Thanks so much for your reply. I ended up tinking back 1.5 rounds (that was not a pleasant experience with this Drops Air yarn!) and finding the issues - which were indeed yarn overs - and correcting them. I've since made another mistake along one of the raglan seams (in the front, sods law!) and so it is a tad wonky but I decided to 'fudge' it and it looks fine enough tbh! I'm almost at the point where I am doing the rib hem now and have learned a lot during the process. Hello! I have a big question I was hoping you could possily answer and/or do a video on! I have been crocheting and knitting on and off for a while and for the longest time I have wondered - how do I know what hook or needle size to use with yarn where it is for example not stated or where the label is lost and you don't know what it is? I am notoriously bad at organization and I was hoping there was a way to measure the yarn or something in oder to begin to figure out what to use.
@hannak0192
@hannak0192 Месяц назад

@cloknits
@cloknits Месяц назад
Yes, you can do the WPI to give you an idea. It's not super precise but it's a start. Same thing for folding the yarn and feeding it through a needle gauge. The most important thing is always to do a swatch with a few different needles to check which one makes sense as a fabric.

How do we know which size is best for us, like the pattern says 60 cast-on so do I multiply the gauge by that number.
@cloknits

@cloknits
@cloknits 26 дней назад
For the fit, I would probably make it with a bit less ease and I would change the twisted rib for a regular 1x1 rib. Raglans fit everyone and this sweater doesn't have waist or hip shaping so it's a good unisex choice.

Hi, beginner knitter here. Im really confused about these two things: You said to soak in hot water (this yarn is not supposed soaked and not supposed to be in water over 30°C) - and, you didnt use magic loop for the collar, but had really stretched out stitches on the too big cable, doesnt this alter the fit of the entire sweater? - apart from this, thanks for the other advice and explanations in the video :)
@cloknits
@cloknits Месяц назад
Hi! For the washing part, brand put a temperature on mostly to stop people from putting it in a washing machine at high temperature which would felt due to friction + heat. The heat itself doesn't hurt the garment, I prefer it because it makes the yarn bloom beautifully. If you are weary of hot water you could always put at room temp, no problem. For the soaking, I have no idea, I've never seen mentionned to not soak a natural fiber... As for the collar, it turned out great. The nylon in this yarn makes it so it doesn't stretch too much and the blocking part is where I make sure the whole garment dries in the shape I want. You couldn't definitely do magic loop though and it would assure that you don't stretch anything too much.

Hi I am so sorry for being so ridiculous. I have ever only knitted a scarf and most basic beanie hat and now decided to knit a sweater for the love of my sweet niece haha but I have zerrooooo idea how to convert the size to one suitable for a 10 year old and how to follow along. Any tips?

@cloknits 11 дней назад
If you want to knit a 10yo size, I would find a pattern that is meant for that size so it's not too complicated. I suggest you use the Flax Worsted by Tin Can Knits. And you can follow her instructions while watching the video to understand the actual techniques. She uses kfb, german short rows and it's a raglan so it's quite similar for the general construction.

Making a full tutorials for sweaters take a lot of time so I can't commit to that right now but I'll keep it in my "to-do" list.

Non je n'ai pas ce modèle en particulier en français mais je suis certaine qu'avec la vidéo, vous pouvez le faire! Et oui on peut y ajouter des rayures sans problème.

You say knit to the end of the row. Where does the pattern say this and on what rows?

Could you point me to the timestamp on the video? I will be happy to answer.

I've torn this apart 6 times and I find the short row shaping is driving me nuts; it is very confusing, in my opinion. Obviously it's just me, but I'm going to try one more time before I throw in the towel!!

Short rows are a bit more complex than everything else in this sweater but they do really add to the fit. Don't hesitate to ask more precise questions if you need to.

I mean, you could! If you don't mind having to redo a few things, I absolutely don't see why you shouldn't try. It's a great learning experience.

I just noticed that Espace Tricot switched all their patterns to paid for recently. I'm currently discussing an option with them to get my viewers a special code. I'll get back to you once it's done!

It’s ok I bought the pattern and yarn on its way $20AUD plus shipping in Australia, so I found it on ESTY $9.04 plus shipping but from Lithuania so 3 week wait 🙄

All the best/nice wool (yarn) and needles are sold over seas. Not like what is sold here in South Africa....that's so sad 😢 lol
@cloknits
@cloknits Месяц назад
I'm so sorry to hear that. I really have no idea where you could find nice wool in South Africa. I'm guessing the shipping must cost a fortune if you buy from elsewhere.
