On the Sirdar free leaflet, it actually suggests both casting on and off with an oddment of DK yarn, not the pom-pom yarn. For sewing in it says use the thin section, so I guess you'd have to make sure you had the full length of that to work with to get a secure finish.
Hi Carol many thanks for showing me how to knit the blanket , how to cast on and cast off and for you’re tips . I’ve always wanted to knit a baby blanket using this yarn .but didn’t know how. You’ve explained so clearly that I’ve started to knit one now 🥰
Hi Again Carol , I’ve now knitted knitted 6 blankets . I’ve knitted a baby cardigan in the Pom Pom yarn but I’m having difficulty joining the shoulder seams cast off rows in DK , as it shows loose stitches when turned right side out. Can you advise me please what to do ?
Thanks for your version of casting off made up been searching forever because how tight it was I've done lots of these blankets used bigger needles to cast off did help. a little so pleased it turned out so much better once again thank you so much xxxRuncorn
Thankyou. I've tried casting off with the pompom yarn, but it was to slack and messy,so I'm going to try your way .I'd love to know how you started the last row though with the plain yarn Many thanks . Amanda x🤔💕
On each video I’ve seen using this type of yarn, none have shown how to sow in the ends or change balls half way through a row. I’ve just fudged it in the past, but would have been nice to see what the experts recommend you do!
Nice video but thought it a bit confusing that you didn’t mention casting off was not done in the same yarn, but with what looked like a plain cotton yarn. I have done these blankets and have managed to cast off with the same Pompom yarn just by knitting one stitch to each Pompom or alternating between two & one stitch between the pom-poms to make it less baggy.
Thats just what I thought Gillian, the change of yarn for casting off was not mentioned in the video. How do you cast off using the pom-pom yarn please?
@@thewoodies858 I don't know if it's correct but I just cast off by knitting the two stitches with the pompom inbetween them (not like you do for the main body of work) & passing the first stitch over the second. Sometimes it goes a bit wavy so I firm it up a bit by leaving the pompom out every few stitches and just knitting & casting off with the straight bit of yarn (like you do normally) Longwinded I know, sorry I can't explain better!
@@gillianwright3231 sorry to be a pain but what do you then do with the second stitch? Do you proceed to the next stitch after the pompom and cast it off that way? I can't visualise it. Tia 🙂
Thank you so much that’s very helpful and useful. I really love 💕 how you cast off, it’s a great idea 💡 and I’m just starting a PomPom blanket, and I’ve made them before but a long time ago, and this has really helped to jog my memory. I’ve also subscribed and liked this video.
Casting off/ ALTERNATIVE STRATEGY Knit the final row to the end of the yarn, as required - Using YOUR smaller sized circular knitting needle. Go to the ‘COMMENCING END’ of your final row (there is no trailing yarn here) and attach 2x combined lengths of Sirdar Snuggly 4ply white yarn - tightly knotting the ends together, around your first post of knitting. Please leave 2” tail to weave in on completion. Crochet 5 chains, then slip stitch the two ‘in between’ knit-stitches’ ~repeat > to the other end (a starting row post) where your wool/circular-needle left-is waiting). The smaller circular needle make it very easy to insert your size 4 crochet hook. Knot-off the white Sirdar Snuggly, weave the ends in. This results in a very springy, particularly attractive and neat finished edge. Looks like a binding/ but I really should have photographed it. Potentially you could add this crochet border to your blankets first row, but I didn’t as I was sick of the sight of the repeated mess I’d made of my lovely work by TRYING to follow these instructions.
I noticed that when you demostrate the cast off, you are using a ball of ordinary yarn, 4py? matching the colour of the blanket. Is it not possible to cast off using the Pom Pom yarn?
Very interesting and helpful……up to a point! AT 3:19, at no point do you explain that you have changed the yarn !?!? Confusing to a beginner who is trying to learn from you .
How many balls would I need to make a throw please , and how many stitches would I need to cast on - i have done the baby blanket and daughter loves or so much she wants a nugget throw for herself lol your method of casting off was brilliant xx
Her explanation is faulty, she has changed to a non- pompom yarn…VERY ANNOYING as she doesn’t properly explain this technique. I ended up crocheting the cast off section.
The yarn to cast off is 50g Sirdar Snuggly DK. You could alternatively use the Rico Pompom yarn as we no longer stock Sweetie. Take a look here - www.blacksheepwools.com/products/rico-creative-pompon?_pos=4&_sid=018645943&_ss=r
Hi Went to make the sirdar cross stich striped blanket. BUT DID not like the way the edge of the knitting does not meet end of pompom wool and leaves a gap any suggestions pleas
