Knitting Help - Simple Magic Loop

Most of us find that we don't always have the correct size of circular needle, in the correct length, for every project. Knowing how to work magic loop will allow you to use a long circular needle to knit a small circumference tube. This is especially helpful if you have an interchangeable needle set, which doesn't come with 16" cords!
Information on things you'll see in this video:
The sweater I'm wearing is my Ombre Dyed Sweater, pattern + video tutorial:
verypink.com/20...
The sweater on the mannequin is my Zasio Sweater Coat, pattern + video tutorial:
verypink.com/20...
The patterned project bag on the table is by dellaQ Knitting Bags and Cases:
www.dellaq.com/...
The circular needles I'm using are Addi Turbos, available through many online knitting supply stores.
The yarn I'm working with is Rowan Magpie Aran, color name "Tranquil". (I do not believe that Rowan is making this yarn anymore.)
My nail color is by OPI, called "Every Month is Oktoberfest".

I do want to mention because this has happened to me. Before pulling the back needle to the right always make sure your working yarn is on top and not at the bottom. When I first started, I was getting really frustrated and it would make a yarn over because of the cord that I had on the right. I just think that's crucial for someone who is new to this wonderful technique

Oh my God I've been knitting my sweater using Magic Loop and didn't even realize it, lol. I've always heard the term Magic Loop and assumed it was some next level, complicated technique...not just what I naturally do when my circulars are longer than necessary, lol.

I started the sleeves on Joji Locatelli's "All of the Lights" cardigan, and quickly realized that there isn't a circular needle alive that is going to be small enough to knit the sleeves. I know I have DPNs somewhere in this house, but couldn't find them. I was about to go order 2 sets when I remembered hearing about Magic Loop back in the day when I was knitting socks on DPNs. I checked out your tutorial - and since I have a full set of ChiaoGoo interchangeables, this technique will work perfectly for my sleeves! My wallet and I both thank you for making this so easy to understand! And best of all, I can keep knitting without having to wait for DPNs to arrive.

Very clear, even for a left-handed knitter like me. Loved it. I was doing a self-imagined version of this technique, but dividing the stitches and working to the end, then pulling the cord through again makes it very easy. Thank you!

I love magic loop and your demo is so easy to follow. Thank you Staci. To eliminate potential for tension issue on the last stitch knitted because it sits on the thin circular needle cord, I add another step: - slip purlwise the last 3 completed stitches from right needle back onto the left needle - on left side, push some more stitches up onto the left needle while creating the magic loop. Now there are the 3 slipped stitches and these pushed up stitches on left needle. - pull up the “empty” right needle and return the 3 completed stitches from the left needle back onto the right needle. Leave these on the right needle, that is don't push down to the cord. - now knit the stitches from the left needle I find doing this stops me from pulling too tightly on the working yarn at the point where I start a “new loop” This extra step just makes my work look better and takes an extra few seconds.

Yes, just place a ring stitch marker on your needle at the beginning of your round, and each time you come back to it, you've completed one round. You can use a row counter to keep track.
@jandroid1962
@jandroid1962 4 года назад
The beginning tail tells me when I've finished a whole round. I hadn't knitted in a while and I'm making a hat and sort of forgot how it works. Came back to where I learned it in the first place. The hat I'm doing was supposed to be done in a split single crochet stitch which is so tight and so hard that I didn't want to do it. It's supposed to make it look like stocking net stitch. I figured I'd just knit it in actual stocking net stitch.

Someone told me you can do this on sleeves and I was like *duh! I should've thought of that!* It'll be a step up from the slower process of double points! Plus two at a time!! I've never knit socks so I was putting it off because I didn't really need to know magic loop but now maybe it'll force me into sock knitting. I've used it once accidentally because I needed smaller length rounds to finish up my neckline so I just pulled out the extra cord through a stitch opening, but this makes it really clear. Thank you! Awesome...
