Well Said, sir. I'm a drywall installer for 40 years and this show was spot on, What I like the best you explained it in a small area to better educate a DIY Homeowner, I like the detailed steps that make a difference to any beginner or myself who been away from it for so long and needed a reminder, I thank you for a job well done. A message to everyone looking at this video, excellent instructions and well said with this show, I'm certain your project will be well done, and proud of your DIY.

He is very thorough in this video. I used it to do knockdown for my first time ind it is super simple. Takes a little bit to figure out how you want the sprayer to spray, but the knockdown is super easy. I used an 18 inch knockdown squeegee and was just fine. Most important thing to take from this video is the dry time. As he points out that when it starts to lose that glistening effect is when you start the knockdown.

I have a very similar gun only problem is it does'n come with the little black hose that allows you to spray ceilings. The hopper on mine sets at a 90 degree angle to the spray head if you turn it up to the ceiling the mud ceases to flow to the gun. A 90 degree flex elbow fits but then the hopper obstructs half the output flow. Ask me how I know. So my only option is to get a new gun for ceilings. An elbow at 45 degrees is unheard of.

Shannon, how long do you wait between the time you spray and the time you "knock it down?" Also, my entire house has the knock down wall, and I have little patches I need to make. How long does the bucket of material last as long as the lid is on tight? Thanks.
@HouseImprovements
@HouseImprovements 3 года назад
The timing depends on the mix and the temperature really, but its usually within minutes. Bucket will stay good for a year if you want it too. Dump enough water on the top to cover the mud, this will seal it good. When you go to use it next time dump the water off the top and mix it again.

@publicmail2
@publicmail2 3 года назад
Orange peel goes on much finer, small splatters, more air less product, just practice first you'll see it right away. Hardly anything to knockdown if you did.
@HouseImprovements
@HouseImprovements 3 года назад
Orange peal is not knocked down after its applied, and basically adjustments to your hopper gun, air pressure and mud consistency will produce orange peal. Play with those factors to get a close match and away you go spraying. Use this same gun.

Do you do a knock down after each room is sprayed as it dries in 10/15 minutes. Does the gun start to clog up when you stop to do the knock down. Hints on timing of knock down. thanks
@HouseImprovements
@HouseImprovements 2 года назад
Kind of depends on the size of room and drying conditions . A small room 100sqfeet or s you can spray and then knock down usually bigger than that you need someone following 5min. behind you or doing it as you go if your by yourself which is a pain. Gun does not really plug up.

Hi Shannon, I had a situation where I scrapped out a popcorn ceiling, sanded and applied new knockdown texture. Left it to dry till the next day and painted. After about two hours I saw certain places cracking and peeling off. Really messed things for me. What do you think caused that?
@HouseImprovements
@HouseImprovements 2 года назад
My guess is the new texture was not dried long enough and the new paint softened it up . Or a combination of that and too much dust on the ceiling when you sprayed the new texture so it didi not bond to the drywall.

Stipple/popcorn ceilings are terrible. They reflect less light, are filthy, are usually unpainted as I've seen which means the little points end up in the air eventually which is toxic, and I think they mess up the air flow of a room. I spent weeks and weeks spraying every ceiling with water and scraping it off with a drywall knife and it was a toxic mess but now the ceilings aren't full of dirt and cobwebs and the rooms are brighter.
