I just can't get into those vocals. The delivery is excellent and every bit as angry as I want... but the tone just hits my ears the wrong way. Makes me sad, because I adore every other aspect of their music. I'm going to keep trying though. It's going to click eventually, I know it.
They'd sound like any other metalcore band without him... That being said, you'll most likely end up loving his vocals with time. I was very much the same, although i didn't hate his vocals, just found them weird and a bit off-putting. Pretty sure "Mistakes like Fractures" was the song that got me fully onboard with him, just kept replaying it over and over for a week straight.
When I heard Laugh Tracks when it first dropped I felt the same way but after years of exposure to all kinds of other vocalists and styles it finally clicked and now I can't get enough of them
