CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Alison (Katherine Heigl) and Ben (Seth Rogen) tell their parents about the pregnancy, but have wildly different experiences.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
When a one-night stand that should have stayed that way has unexpected consequences, the reluctant odd couple attempts to transform their tentative relationship into a lasting love in this conception comedy. Twenty-four-year-old entertainment journalist Alison Scott (Katherine Heigl) is on the fast track to the big time, but an alcohol-fueled hookup with responsibility-shirking slacker Ben Stone (Seth Rogen) finds her professional priorities taking a back seat to having a baby. Now, as overgrown kid Ben attempts to assume the responsibilities of fatherhood, he makes the brave decision to stand by Alison. In order to make things work between the pair, however, there's going to have to be some compromise, and when Alison and Ben decide to take a shot at love, they quickly find that building a relationship from scratch isn't nearly as easy as making a baby.

I love the reversal, Alison wants to have the baby and her mother advisers her against it, while Ben doesn't want to be a father but his dad supports it. Great reversal. And Harold Ramis celebrating fatherhood in this scene is wonderful and heartwarming.

I think he had natural comic timing so it makes him great because he could play off other people like Bill Murray or Seth Rogan because he could play the "straight guy" that makes comedy work. Too many people in films want to be "the funny one" and fail because you need someone to basically either counter or react to it in a way that makes it land. (Patton Oswald, Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wigg, Ken Jeongg are good examples who really need someone to bounce off to be funny).

@@rubix4195 I whole heartedly agree with you good sir. It's similar to Dumb and Dumber. That was the only movie that Jeff Daniels really played a comedic character (Atleast that I have seen) however him and Jim play off eachother just like Ramis does whether it's Bill Murray or Seth Rogan.

your father knew what e j a cul ati ng in that ONE SPOT would do. and he did it anyway. you were planned. your parents just knew they had no business having children at that point in their lives and needed others to excuse it. so they pretended it was an accident. that's the story with basically all "accidents". it's pretty transparent.

The scene between the mother and daughter is scarier than any horror movie scene. The sheer inhumanity of implying that an unwanted pregnancy is not a real baby, and that it can be thrown away like trash, is just chilling.

The father and son talk is without a doubt my favourite scene in this whole film, cause he is giving straight facts about life. Life works in mysterious ways that some of us don't understand, but you need to make the best of whatever comes. It might not be what you planned, but it could lead you into gaining something better. There's always something to learn from it, but it's up to you to make the best of it.

I don't think "she took car of it" equals she had an unplanned baby. "She took care of it" is a euphemism for abortion (i.e., she murdered the unborn baby); and what the mom wants her daughter to do is the same thing - kill the unborn baby. Then, presumably, like her sister, she'll get pregnant at a later time when it is more convenient. And the comment should piss you off; it should piss off anyone who values life. Too often babies are murdered on the alter of convenience in our culture. There will be a day of reckoning...

I remember watching this film with some friends and was kinda obliged to it, everyone wanted to watch it but me. But when this scene came out, it was so heartwarming! I absolutely love Harold, I had a crush on him from Ghostbusters and later on I kept on admiring him as a wonderful actor and human being. This scene was perfect! He surely is greatly missed.

dodgetransformer84 I worked on Muntiplicity. He always had a smile and was soft spoken. He was always positive. At the end of the picture I got a thank you letter as did each member of the crew. It was the first and only one I've received.

Ditto and Ditto. My dad has this exact same vibe talking to him about anything, and my grandfather sadly passed neck deep with Alzheimers. Ibe always loved this movie for this scene, all the dad's I known that are so well represented with that "Not all the time, just all day and the weekends" 🤣

Yes. Sadly. They seem to regard having children as the "end of your life" and "nothing but a hinderance" instead of a blessing. They think just because they have a kid they can't live like they're 21 anymore. Maybe think about that before getting into bed with someone you don't know well or not taking precautions yourself and stop think it's not a "real" baby until a certain amount of weeks. at just 5 weeks my baby had arms, legs a head and a heartbeat. It looked like a baby even then. I don't understand how someone can look at that and not realize it's a human life!

That is one of the best father son moments in movie history. Harold Ramos is the dad everyone needs when they feel hopeless. I hope I can be this candid and loving with my kids, this is the type of dad I want to be.

I wish I had that conversation with my dad. Harold Ramis made that scene warm and kind. And yes it was honest and open other things that are more "disastrously" wrong. If anything he brings to that scene is it's a blessing, if not a privilege, to be a parent. Most people, don't get that.

RIP to Harold. He played a great little part in this amazing movie that taught me a lot when i was younger. He reminds me of my old man, just a genuinely amazing, maybe a little goofy father who would do anything for just about anyone, namely his son and daughter. This scene makes me remember how much i love my Pop, totally and completely. ❤️

If you want good an example there are no small roles only small actors, this is a perfect example. Harold Ramis steals the scene and gives us some of great advice of life and gives us a bunch of laughs.

At a screening of Groundhog Day presented by Harold, during a meet and greet afterwards, I told him "When I was a kid, they called me Egon in school." In that classic dry Ramis way he replies "I feel sorry for you." I immediately come back with "It's ok, I liked it!" "I feel MORE sorry for you." 😂 One of my great honors in life that I got to meet Harold.

I haven’t seen Knocked Up in well over a decade but I went out of my way to find this scene again. I was on the verge of puberty and my relationship with my dad was the opposite of this. He made me feel like I couldn’t do anything right and he was only involved in my life when he wanted to be. I’m still trying to recover from that. But the warmth of this performance and “everything is gonna be okay” attitude Harold Ramis brought was just so different than what I was receiving at home. It stuck with me and I want to be that kind of father for my children whenever I have them.

I can see where Ben's dad is coming from when he tells him he's the best thing that's ever happened to him. Ben doesn't understand this as he's not yet a dad, but the truth is that when you have children, they add such richness and meaning to your life. Even if your kids grow up to be loser slackers like Ben, you see the world in a whole new way when you become a parent. You see possibility where there previously was none. You see pure innocence work its magic everytime you watch your kids play. To know that you put a little good out into such a cruel and ugly world, it makes you whole in ways you can't describe.
