I was gonna say, you looked like you were doing pretty good. I was wondering what kind of mistake you were gonna make, and when the crash finally came it made a lot more sense, lol. Nice driving.
He drifted into the line of the other driver, WTF are you talking about? He thought he was so good nobody could overtake him so he was drifting across the driving line the whole vid. This is what happens when your ego exceeds your ability!
@@bobdowne7897 He was in front, and it's likely he didn't see the guy coming up from behind. He didn't "drift into the driving line of the _other_ driver", he was continuing into _the_ driving line, and the other driver bit off more than he could chew. He shouldn't have tried to overtake at that location unless he was massively faster than the OP, which he clearly wasn't. He thought he was hot shit and they both paid for it. What he should have done was slowed down and followed the OP until there was a safe spot to pass. I mean, mistakes happen, but this was not the OP's fault. He was in front, and as such has the right of way.
Let alone trying to pass until the camera car decided to moved back onto the racing line and ended up on the red car. Are you on the racing line, or on the other side of the track from it, then last second back on it? Not picking one is silly at those speeds as you saw. Glad everyone is safe.
To me it looks as a miscalculated divebomb. He hasn't seen it coming and the guy though he would havegotten by. Happens a lot and pisses out the guy in front but, hey, that's racing and shit happens.
@@jason21jburg it's not crystal clear, I agree. I watched it about 7 or 8 times...imagine if you had an aerial view. How fast was the guy passing going comparatively? I don't have mirrors as I wasn't driving, so I didn't now he was even on the track. Without seeing the track in person at that section, it's impossible to conclude exactly what happened. If you are in front, pick your line, that's your advantage. Stick to it if you want to finish?😀
The other driver will likely have good spatial awareness, he was just pushing hard to try to make a move on the camera car.. and having just come into the braking zone, probably just lost the rear end on the brakes either from inexperience or too much rear brake bias.. or being squeezed a bit, thought the gap was going to close completely and braked too hard. Highly doubt he just steered into him. If it was just a track day he shouldn't have been trying to race him though.
@@paulhope3401 the crash comes just after the camera car moves across to the left, likely pushing the other car off the track. If you look at the track surface, it seems like the camera car moves off the racing line, which is the standard procedure to allow a faster driver to safely pass, then moves back across just before the braking zone. The worst place to cut someone off. The other driver likely didn't anticipate this and executed a power off emergency lane change while standing on the brakes, which these cars do not like at all. The rear comes out, you're off track, you don't want to hit the wall and roll it, so you react and go the other way. On grass, it's a guaranteed spin.
Brilliant track, Knockhill! I’ve been round it in one of those Atoms driven by a pro driver. Think it was the (usual) annual Supercar Day they have during the summer months where you pay a few quid for the experience. If you’ve never been and done it do it!! Glad the occupants were ok.
I thought they had a blow out at first. I was like they are damn lucky it didn't happen while braking for the corner. Great driving really knew that track. The other driver is lucky he didn't flip them over and kill them
@@14miledashcamvideos41 That's what really spoils trackdays. Done a few myself and thankfully most adhere to the rules, but there are some who shouldn't really be there.
Holy crap bro mad skills there judging the turns beforehand and definitely looks like you've been there before cuz you came at it faster than anything I've seen before
Crazy when you were going backwards I thought you were going to break sooner but you would've been right in the middle of the track. Way to keep your cool, nice driving sir!
Great driving... great awareness🤷♂️.. a racing incident? Guy trying overtake maybe should have waited for clearer oppurtunity? As you didnt see him in your mirrors.. I did a few track days and we were told we were not to race....pull over let a faster car through... great camera work
ma se vuoi sorpassare visto che la curva in arrivo è una destra, mettiti all'interno (cioè a destra) e tira la staccata! Che fai cerchi di passare all'esterno?
That is some great driving but I have some questions. Why the passenger not wearing gloves? What kind of racing is that? It doesn’t make sense at all to race in this setting with a passenger in a circuit.
I was actually the passenger. I’ve had this question a couple of times on here. Forgive me for being a novice, but what is the purpose? Is it incase we crash and my hands meet the tarmac? I genuinely don’t know. Thanks in advance.🙂
@@14miledashcamvideos41 it’s just a precaution to cover the whole body in case of crash or fire. But f*** that most importantly you had fun and came out safe. Forgive my annoyance but; Question: is this just lapping around a circuit or is it a proper race? I want to understand when the other car hit you was it for a position in the race or just another car that happened to be lapping around the circuit? Thanks for your reply btw
@@fahada1921 Thanks, I thought it might be that. It was just a track day, hence the other guy shouldn’t have been trying to overtake there. He was a total amateur and couldn’t distinguish between a race and a track day. He actually wrote off my friends car. Luckily race insurance found the other guy at fault.:)
It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt. That was the softest 'crash' of the year in 2018. Poor guy in passenger seat needed to change his undershorts after that. Normally, passenger only in Rally Racing who acts as Navigator with map of course, telling driver what is coming up, which way to turn, brake, etc. Seen plenty of 'Navigators' get just as hurt as the drivers during hard crashes in Rally.
LOL at all the internet Michael Masi's on here blaming the camera car. I bet none of you have even driven Knockhill, and certainly not at the kind of speeds where you need to take the correct racing line at 1:05. I'd have been seriously pissed off if that was me - could have had really serious consequences at those speeds. It's almost luck of the draw how it ends.
It doesn’t really look like it was the drivers fault but he also didn’t appear to be checking his mirrors at all. I’d like to see the other driver’s point of view
Took a few retakes to see you were actually hit as I was watching your arms! I was like, wind shear, oil on track, why did it snap so violently?!? Get back out there - preferably without that other guy.
You can tell the race drive and the passenger… drivers head is very stable and the passenger nearly lost his head in every direction haha race drivers have extremely strong necks!
Dashcam car pulled over to the right, presumably as they saw the faster car coming up behind, which would signal to the car behind that he could pass. They then didn’t lift off and wandered back to the centre of the track.
That’s not actually what happened. The camera car wasn’t making way for the other atom and was simply on the racing line. The other driver was totally inexperienced and didn’t know when it was safe to try and overtake. The only reason he was close to the camera car was that he was following our line. You can see he loses control of his car and crashes into us side-on:)
@@biosbank1 He wasn’t over on right hand side. Watch again. Regardless. Both the Track Marshals and Race Insurance found the other driver to blame. Expensive lesson for him:)
1:05 camera car is near right hand line, 1:08 time of collision camera car is on the left hand side of the centerline with ample straightaway in sight. Mutual blame at a minimum imo
@@jamesmills5165 I respect your opinion, but the camera car wasn’t to blame at all. Both the Track Marshals and Race Insurance found the other driver to blame. :)
100% not his fault. The other driver took a chance at a point where nobody would try and overtake on a track day. Also, both the Track Marshals and Race Insurance found the other car at fault. If you had seen the other driver that day, you would agree he was way out of his depth and really didn’t know how to drive. I noticed it even before the crash. He was all over the track and clearly didn’t know what a racing line was. All the gear and no idea:(🤦♂️
@@3dw3dw This was my friends car. I was the passenger. The other Atom’s track rod were all bent. My friends car was actually written off, as it required a new chassis.😳
It has to do with the FOV. A narrow FOV makes everything seem slower because it's essentially zooming in to where there's less relative movement of the stuff around the car.
100% agree. My heart was pounding… it looked so quick (and controlled) I was super angsty that something really big, at high speed (like a tyre letting go or something), was going to happen… given the title. Anticipation was mega😳
unbelievable how that happened. i was expecting some drama at duffus but after seeing how well you were driving i was wondering where the actual crash would have been. but to see some impatient driver trying to squeeze down the left side at that bend and at those speeds is utterly moronic.
@@long-long. was just about to say, look again. Best crash caught on camera to date after all the Asian fellas crashed immediately after the first lap.
What the hell was the other car playing at? This was obviously a track day, not a race, therefore you don't play silly buggers trying to outbrake yourself in to a fairly slow tight corner and end up taking out somebody elses pride and joy.
the car with the camera was fully on the right of the track, the other driver probably thought he was there to let them by. Misunderstanding obviously since the racing line on this track is somewhat to the right there.
@@kevinpelletier7053 not a knockhill, u sit to the right to let faster cars pass and before moving back onto the racing like u check the mirrors, car on left obviously thought he was being let past then camera car moved back across without checking it was clear
His line was the same both laps. Car attempting pass had plenty of time to back out. This was only a track day. Any circuit that runs a track day/HPDE without required passing signals is foolish.
Came of the track here a few times, was physically sick once with the spinning. To this day knockhill is a track I hate because I’m not good enough to get around it at a decent speed.
That’s the trouble with track days nowadays seems that everyone thinks they can drive like Hamilton and over take anywhere they want .. there’s rules to keep us safe so why don’t people stick to them if your faster you’ll get past in the end ..
I don't know if I could be the passenger in a race like this...not being the one in control would make me so freaked out! Not that I'm some great driver, but just "being along for the ride" at those speeds would be scary...could be fun as well though I guess.
Too bad the driver didn't think he was in a touring race, they look in the rear more than out the front.. and they don't cut across 4 lanes on the track and crash into someone lolol
Track day rules are just helmet and long sleeves. Mandatory gloves is racing only, and even then it always used to vary between championships - not sure about now as I always wear them when racing for safety. It’s far better driving without them though - far better.
