I'm not a total beginner, but pretty close... just at the point where I can play the basic open chords cleanly and change between them without too much delay. This video is just what I needed and actually one of the best guitar instruction videos I've ever seen. And I've been looking at guitar videos for a while now. I just subscribed and am looking forward to seeing more of your instructions. I especially liked the emphasis/instruction on strumming in this one; something I'm really needing to work on. Just knowing the chords is not enough and I could feel and hear my strumming get better as I played along with this. You are very clear in your instruction without speeding through any part of it as some instructors do. Great job!😊

I don't play the guitar, I'm a beginner ukulele learner. I was looking for strumming patterns out there for this song and your video is the best one. Thanks very much for such a nice video, helped tremendously.

Material called "easy" can be made so special by the art applied. Look at Elvis and Scotty Moore, made history polishing easy material as a base they made special. Elvis always made material special by adding his art and making his own path. Growing up my friends would laugh and say "That is easy",yet NOT 1 of them could play and make one of them songs special.

Love this song, one of my favourites. The 2 finger G was actually the first way I ever played it, still do a lot of the time. This is one of those songs where you're basically playing the vocals...with fill ins. Which is another of my favourite things. A lot of the time I fill in between the beats with an arpeggio leading into the next chord. Thing is I don't think I have ever played this song the same way twice. Including the ending. I like songs like this you can play differently each time because for one it's less boring and secondly you and the song evolve as I think music should. Keeping it recognisable of course, you don't want to end up playing a different song... There are songs that you can't alter too much but when you can then be creative with it whether it's the rhythm or the solo. It's kinda the point of making music. This song is one you can be creative with. The lyrics ain't half bad either.

It's missing words to express how much this lesson provided for someone with tremendous strumming dificulties that has been online for more than a year learning guitar playing through video sharing platforms. Yes, I subscribed your channel right away. Keep up with your outstanding work while I'll recomend it among others.

The more I watch these videos, the more I like the style and the focus of the lesson i.e. The chords, the strumming (different patterns while keeping the rhythm) and finally the song. More, please, Dave!

Excellent lesson dave. Stopped playing 38 years ago because I though my fingers would never cooperate. Began again two weeks ago, and this time they are cooperating. The difference is that I started with a left handed guitar, being left handed. What do you know, I should have gone with a right handed guitar. My left hand was supposed to do the chords and notes, not the strumming! We learn something new every day.

Thank you for your words. I never thought about playing a song not completely like the original or even from an instructor online. I should have you know. The song Stand By Me is done in so many ways, none of which are the same. From now on I will be making songs my own, using the skills I have and enjoying myself more instead of trying to copy someone perfectly. Thank you. Be safe.

Hi Dave, thanks for all your detail and great techniques. Self taught left handed player and I like the the ghost strums. I would like to see you cover California blue by Roy Orbison some time in the future. I realise there is a bit more involved in that song but it also only uses a few essential chords.

Tim, basically it's just a variation of strumming a chord differently. what ever you think sounds best go for it. remember, you are trying to play someone else's version of a song. play it how you like as long as it songs good and close to the original.
