Haha! Yeah, I was a little bit. Thanks Kathleen! It's amazing how the right music can help make something like cleaning the floor a bit more enjoyable.
Oh yeah! Haha! I'm actually surprised that this wasn't a bigger topic of discussion in the comments section. I guess I should be grateful. The lyrics are very clever though, aren't they?
I use to play and Sing that in a band I was in in Hawaii. Early Warning was the name of our band. On the drummers bass drum Was a picture of the Hawaiian Islands in Cross Hairs. Lol Crazy fun times
Roger Glover can sound a little bureaucratic at times. It is interesting, therefore, to know of the variations in this song. Pretty fun song as well. Keep them coming!
I hear you, he plays it pretty safe and always unselfishly serves the song. He plays some really odd fingerings during the guitar solo. I'll try! Thanks Claudio.
I had the tab for this song back in nineteen eighty something(after 84 of course) and I thought you nailed it when you said there were a lot of little variations for the lines he is playing. That lead part exemplifies that for sure. That's what the tabs amounted to also. It was a difficult song. You nailed it when playing it now though. Awesome cover.
As a 14 year old boy, I had to move my mom’s “On the Wings of a Snow White Dove” LP to play my Deep Purple LP. The only time I could do that was after school and when both parents were at work, then too before my paper route. Lucky for me I was eldest child. 👍🏼 Memories…thank you
@@TJH3113 I’m getting many of these time capsules lately. I was diagnosed with prostate cancer ten days ago, but I’m told it’s highly operable (meaning easy to snip out). Now I have the time to play and I have been taking advantage of it. I am now learning to record (it’s a big step for me as it is not my old cassette recorder now. Best wishes from just north of Sacramento. I love you doing you Troy, thank you
I was not familiar with the "Bernard Edwards chucking technique" until I read your comment, so I looked it up. Yes, I guess that's what I'm doing, though with much less finesse than Bernard had. It's all fun and games until you pull your nail off the nail-bed. Thanks and take care.
I love bluesy basslines, especially Sabbath and Deep Purple. Makes me realize how much I miss this melodic touch in more modern music. Brilliant playing!
Really really enjoy watching you play bass. I’ve watched this video alone a few times now. Fantastic stuff. I’m curious, I’ve noticed in more recent videos you also play just the bass without music, how come you haven’t done that for any of the rush videos? Also, where’s Animate??
Thank you Jack. Actually, it took me a while (a long while) to get comfortable enough to play on my own and to speak more, as I've been doing. I don't know how, when, or why I started doing either, but people seem to approve of it. I'm not really comfortable portraying myself as an instructor of any sort. That being said, I may go back and do some lesson-type stuff on some of the Rush songs in the future. As far as "Animate" goes, there's no way I'd be able to come up with anything to replicate the flamenco technique he uses throughout the song, so I've taken a pass on that one. I've fudged a good number of song sections, as best I could, over the years, but that song is flamenco from start to finish.
Nice Troy! This album was kind of a gem for '84. Music was in a serious transition at that time and it wasn't headed where I wanted music to go but time can't please everyone. Since you are spending a lot of time with the P, have you ever considered putting a Stellartone tone pot in it? It does really nice things for a P-bass. I put the 10 position tone pot in mine and it really opens up the tonal possibilities. Have a great weekend and watch out for those dust/hair bunnies
There was a time in which I practised that song EVERYDAY. I had a cheap book with Purple songs, and as an interesting matter of fact, the song helped me a lot to move on in a very hard time of my time. One again, thanks a lot Mr. Troy and also, sorry for my carppy English. ¡Take care! 🤘🤘🤘
Late to the show. I picked Deep Purple from the list and as it turns out, that's your cover. The "In Rock" lp is my favorite from Deep Purple. Still sounds great after all these years.
Thank you! I have been looking for a cover of this song for a while and BANG! Here you are! Merci! Could look into "151" from Riverbend when you have a minute please? Thank you much!
Awesome I was one of the deep purple voters, but it got me on a JCSS sidetrack, then I was hopeful you’d do another off that album and watched some bass videos of JCSS songs you haven’t done yet thinking I could telepathically get you play one, then I started learning 5th dimension Aquarius (let the sun shine) then the baby cat wanted to play. Before I knew it, it wasn’t morning anymore. Anyway, brilliant cover and thank you for the a cappella version, I love those. And awesome about your schedule, it’s gotta be nice to have a little extra time with Lynn and to help out more. So happy for you. Cheers Fonzy have a great long weekend.
Great playing! Roger Glover would be proud 👍 Edit:. That bass has great sound! Most of it comes from your technique, but that pickup is certainly better than a p-bass stocker 😉
Troy! Nice cover! Where you using a pick or your index finger for the first bars of the song? I’ve played finger style since 1986 however I’ve played in Speed metal bands and used my right index finger tip for really fast parts of the songs I played on in the past. Just curious as I haven’t seen any other bass players do that technique. Anyways ….well done sir!
Great job as always.. always liked that tune haven’t heard it in a very long time...that bass not only looks cool it sounds great as well...thank you for your work....hope all is well...have a great weekend....
I love this one! We have common musical influences. Great to watch, as usual. Thanks for doing it. You know, a song I like that most rockers don't, is the bass for Rio. Duran Duran's bass player knows his craft. For some reason I really dig REM's bass work too. Anyway, sorry to go on and on. Great to hear you. Hope all is well with your family. Cheers.
Magnificent Troy! I loved how you play with such fervor, heart, sould and perfection. You are the Master. So good to hear your voice too. Thank you for your perfection and positive vibes. How are you? Lynn and your Mom? I've missed you. Hope all is well with you guys. We are fine here. You'd be proud of how well I can hum bass lines to songs. You're my teacher and therapist too. Don't forget!! Marvine :-)
Thanks so much, Marvine. I appreciate the kind words from you as always. We're all good. Mom had a birthday earlier this week and we took her out to dinner last night. Had a very nice time.
Awesome cover! I really love the fact that you play EVERYTHING!! I have been exposed to songs that I would have never listened to because of you. Keep up the great work and thank you!
Have you played a fretless for us, yet? I don’t recall one. May I humbly suggest something off the Graceland album, by Paul Simon? Some really cool bass lines in that collection. (It seems like something you would enjoy.) Happy Memorial Day.
I played a short section of "Murder" by David Gilmour on the only fretless I had. I then had frets put back into the bass. I'm good for about 15 minutes on a fretless. Thanks! You too!
Awesome Job from my favorite song on Perfect Strangers. Not sure if you do requests, but if do please do "Turn up the Night" Sabbath. Geezer is killer on that tune. Thx
Loved this Cover Troy! And Really Loved your detailed message! I could write a book on my music that I play at certain times around my humble abode whilst doing chores or reading or pretty much anything indoors! I smiled too as Donald's "New Frontier" gets a tremendous amount of play time in my home as does The Dan Of Steel and especially David Bowie! But of course ALL my lists start with something from my #1 ....RUSH I'm still laughing at "The Cat's Cafeteria"...Classic! Cheers From Ohio
Love this song. Roger Glover is such an underrated player. I grew up playing in a cover band with a Blackmore obsessed guitarist so we did a ton of Purple and Rainbow. Never did this one but it really takes me back. Great job sir!
Almost all Roger Glover bass lines resemble this to one degree or another, making it pretty easy to muddle through one you don't really know all that well if you're required to.
Ahh Deep Purple. Have always had a soft spot for them. They were my first concert in about 2003 or 04? Think I remember them playing this. Was kinda young. Have always liked Rodger Glovers bass work. Great work! Such a cool bass line on this song. And I really love this bass! Great look, fantastic tone.
Great cover Troy, hey did you ever hear that "Perfect Strangers" was going to be the next Rainbow album after "Bent Out Of Shape" I seem to remember hearing that somewhere
I love that walking bass part during the guitar solo in this song. Glover is one of those guys who influenced my bass playing without me really realizing it.
Not only is it my favorite DP song, it's in my top 5 all time favorite song list..and of all the many concerts I saw in the 80's.. the Perfect Stranger tour concert is my favorite concert .
Oh man Troy, good choice! This intro is absolutely my favorite amongst DP’s amazing catalog. That raw organ, the pounding bass, and thundering drums. Great stuff, thanks so much fir the outstanding cover!
