Knocking Over Dead Tree With Cat 941

This tree had been worrying my Pop for a couple of years. I went down to knock it over last week, but discovered a fuel leak. The fuel pressure line running from the filter housing to the gauge on the dash had a hole in it. After getting the parts and replacing the line, I took the ol' beast and toppled the tree with a few pushes. Fortunately, it broke at the base. There wasn't much room around the house to dig up the roots with the 941.

Might b the angle but the old house looks like the foundations need levelling up. Nice 941 been looking for one here in Aus. I was surprised how staunch it remained pushing that tree. Wouldn't be that heavy but enough to do the that job in the right hands. Theres always someone saying theres a better way around doing it. If those blokes havnt once in there lives taken a risk then they will never know their limitations. Bloody flatliners mate..the worlds full of them now. Good size machine to clean up an abondoned rural block i rekon.

The foundation is only one of the problem with the house! Because I was so close to the house, I didn't go into the tree as aggressively as I could have. Normally, I would have dug around the tree and broke all the roots. However, I just didn't have the space. Pushing it with the loader was the best way to get it down while maintaining as much control as possible. The 941 is relatively light and only 80 hp. However, yes, it is a great machine for clean up and jobs where a skidsteer just can't move the volume and a 953 or 963 is too cumbersome.

Bumping a dead tree is VERY dangerous, even live ones, can snap off ! & fall back over & kill you & that rops would not stop you from getting hurt ! Do you not have a backhoe? I have taken down live ponderosa pine 3ft diameter by digging a 5ft deep trench around (18" bucket) this cuts off the big roots, then use the backhoe 18" to also push over the tree , this pulls out the whole stump ! Chip off as much dirt as possible to fill the hole back in. This way the tree don't snap off over backwards & kill you as has happened to others ! Then use single tooth ripper to rip out the roots.
