Very helpful tips! Just wondering if you could please explain in a video when to use 3rd shot drop vs drive. And how to drive a ball in the transition zone so that the ball didn't go out of bounds. Thanks a lot for your videos!
@BetterPickleball
@BetterPickleball 2 года назад
We’ll added it to the list. All except the driving from the transition zone. Unless your a highly skilled driver of the ball most of those shots are out

FYI-Many of the RU-vid lessons are for high level players who don't bother with challenging serves or banger-ball with slamming and hot smashes . After 3-5 exchanges, they go right to dinking followed by a speed-up. The bulk of the "common-man" players are basically looking for a put away with fast game power shots and slamming The better the player, the more accurate and consistent they are with fewer mistakes, shot selection and unforced errors. Basically there are 2 kinds of pickleball play depending on the ability and sophistication of the players. I agree we all play against "stinkers" who fake us out with a slam only to pop the ball over the net while we are stuck in the backcourt! A point is a point. Same goes for the short servers. Its all part of the mind games to "undermine" the opponent. Don't get mad, get even!

Put the design up on Red Bubble or the like and anyone can 'print on demand' and you get a royalty everytime one sells. That is the easiest way.

Good tips...could you also show if there is a way you can tell when someone is going to do a 3rd shot lob??
@BetterPickleball
@BetterPickleball 2 года назад
Watch the face of the paddle. If it’s very open then it might be a lob

Actually, it was Lost in Space, but who's counting, right? What I remember more from that show is Angela Cartwright, who was the sweetheart of every 12-year-old boy back then. Will Robinson's sister on the show.

There is a popular reboot of Lost in Space (2018-2021) running on Netflix, which includes the famous "Danger, Will Robinson" line.

Very helpful stuff, though I can see it would be difficult to switch your attention from the movement of the ball to the player's body language. Still, great information and I can't wait to try it. Now, here's another question that sort of relates to this. Are there visual cues you might pick up from your opponent when you're up front that tell you that your opponent is going to lob? Once in a while I face an opponent that telegraphs a lob and I can react to it, but most of the time I'm screwed (especially being an older player). Thanks for the help on this subject and any additional on lob cues.
@BetterPickleball
@BetterPickleball 2 года назад
If their tendency is to lob look for an open paddle face
@mikeetgen8987
@mikeetgen8987 2 года назад
@@BetterPickleball Ahh...good point. Thanks. I have noticed that at times, as well as a tendency of the opponent to draw the paddle back a little behind the body. It makes a difference if I'm leaning in towards the net - then I can't reverse momentum and get turned around. But maybe that's because I'm 70.

Hi Joan, that's leaned skill. Keep an eye on the paddle and it tells you what you need to know

FYI: I've played against many players who are able to drop a shot at the NBZ when there paddle is raised. Your theory does not apply to high paddle positions.
@BetterPickleball
@BetterPickleball 2 года назад
Hi Walter, yes there are some people that can drop a shot into the NVZ. But for the most part when the paddle is high, meaning the ball is above the net the best strategy is to stay back in anticipation of a hard shot.

But if the opponents racket goes down it could mean a lob is coming, in which case you would not want to come up to the kitchen. So how do I know a lob is coming? Thanks.
@BetterPickleball
@BetterPickleball 11 месяцев назад
You are correct, when a paddle goes down a player might lob. Look for tendencies. Which player lobs? Do they lob after a certain number of shots? I
@daveburton5339

Don't need to turn. I play an opponent who takes a step backwards at the nvz and aims at my body using lots of topspin. I always think they'll go out but they never do and I don't have enough time to see it coming.

As a beginner I've already noticed that high balls over the net are dangerous to me or my partner, low balls over the net are much better so they dont get smashed back at you.

Noticing that is a great first step! I know if can be hard in a game to not pop it up, but awareness and practice will help
