DUO LIVING ROOM POWER SET music by KNOWER visuals by KNOWER KNOWER = Louis Cole and Genevieve Artadi follow knower: / knowermusic www.instagram.... / knower_music / knowermusic recorded for secret sky festival
As a 62 year old jazz dinosaur, life was becoming increasingly miserable and hopeless with the death of so many of my musical heroes, until I came across these two creatures a few years ago. I FUCKING LOVE THEM!!! To find an identity and musical "voice" is hard enough, but to be so utterly unique and engaged in another sphere, to sound different, to BE different - all whilst creating the dense and complex music that these two little wonders do is so completely heartening for the future of intelligent music (i dread to use the word "Jazz"). My only issue with them is that they don't output more. Listening to Louis and the adorable Genevieve ALWAYS puts me in a positive and happy state of mind. LONG MAY THEY CONTINUE TO BRIGHTEN OUR LIVES!!!
I'm so glad that Genevieve was born. I'm so glad that Louis was born. I'm so glad that they grew up and met each other. I'm so glad that they started a project together. Don't ever stop what you're doing. EVER!!!!!!!!
10:34 Louis Cole "preparing" for the next snare fill by playing the sextuplets in the air by the side of him. Good to know I'm not the only one who does this LMAO
I love the way Genevieve sings. She does it with simplicity, free of any artificial complexities or mannerisms. And she nails that simplicity with a whole lot of musical sensitivity. It's very subtle, and I love that. Genevieve doesn't need or try to sound different, than her simple, natural, beautiful self. Way to go!
She's one of my favorite vocalist. I think if it was the early 80's she would be a huge pop hit but since the industry has become so refined all the creative bands are underground. I mean look at stuff like the B-52's and Eurythmics; they would be probably playing someone's basement if they came along today.
I started cracking up at 16:56 when Louis goes to sing "The Government Knows" and then his voice is completely dry with no effects just reading softly :D So hyped to see a Knower video this morning I missed the heck out of you guys. Much respect, Jah bless, Knower 2020.
It was so funny seeing chat explode @ porter robinsons online festival because the people that did not know knower were losing their mind over this song :' )
I am with you. I actually like this performance more than the recording. The lyrics take on a different character without the voice mod, it changes the meaning of the song. IMO, it's much funnier. On the album, with the voice mods, the character singing is in position of power. The character singing on the album sounds like he's the one doing the watching. He knows things you cannot comprehend. The live version, though, sounds more like it's coming from your weird-ass neighbor from the upstairs apartment . It puts more emphasis on the singer's weird obsession with being watched, rather than the absurdities of the US military industrial complex. It's like, "dude, I know, you think the CIA is watching you jack it. Please stop talking about this." Edited for clarity.

Its so rare for a band to be this good live. It sounds IDENTICAL to the recording, but with a clearly live feel. Genevieve is on point and I don't even think she has reverb on her voice. Louis is obviously the tits but damn. Favorite band whether I like it or not
This is one of my favorite things of all time. I just discovered Knower a few days ago and I can't stop. I literally have been falling asleep and waking up with their songs in my head. Help lol.
How the f*** can two people in their living room make a better concert in terms of music, lightning, production, etc. than 98% of the current big bands?
@JM Coulon Music is no longer audio-only. To make it today, you have to be visually interesting, and Knower is one of this practice's more economical executors. That is, they do a lot with a little. Performing wild poppy jams with a projector & 45XL tshirts, a prove it kit and a couple of synths, plus the criminally underrated vocal talents of Artadi remains the winningest combo I've witnessed to date. We can better understand the process of the masters today, based on shit they do in their living room, performing in their pajamas. The revolution has been on RU-vid all along...
I was soooo fortunate to be able to see Louis and Genevieve last December before all of this Covid bullshit happened. It was one of the best concerts I've ever been to in my life. Louis had a full "live sesh" band on stage with him (yes, including Jacob Mann and Sam Wilkes) and they were un-freaking-believable! I know that some of Vulfpeck was there (Jack Stratton, Cory Wong, and also Cody Fry) because they were hanging out and dancing right in front me. Louis and Gen, if you see this message, I just want to say Thank You so much! I'm sure I'm not the only one here who needed this to help brighten an otherwise dimly-lit Covid quarantined day.
Quinngermin same deal happened to man. I bought tickets for me and my friends right when they went on sale, but then I got an out of state college audition scheduled that day and couldn’t end up going. Thankfully though all my friends went and came back saying it was literally the greatest concert they had ever been to :P
I saw them in Leeds in the UK almost immediately before the lockdown. In hindsight it should maybe have been cancelled but I'm pleased I got to see him so close to home.
today, a moving company charged me a $350 cancellation fee to NOT move a 90 pound thing 4 minutes from here. it's been one of the stupidest days so far but this made me forget about it and just appreciate life. this is the opposite of that BS and so freaking excellent and beautiful as always. thanks!
Heard “Hanging On” for the first time during this set and I’m not sure why that song didn’t soar on the EDM charts. Like, who is not doing their fucking job and searching out amazing music? I’m pissed because we are missing out on music that is out of this world because it’s not “mainstream.” So tired of all the stuff Big Musica loves to shove down our throats all day. I don’t listen to the radio because I’m tired of it. Who else can relate?
You don’t get it, he’s well known in this industry. If he would like to be in charts he would be there, famous people are famous not because they’re only talented.
Some people say, “No one makes good music anymore”. Those people have boring musical taste and are lazy. I used to think it was one of those generational things, but it’s really not. Some people are just boring and really lazy. I’m not even sure how to listen to the radio anymore. I’m vaguely aware there are radio apps. When I lived in L.A., I had a radio player and I could play KCRW. They had a show called Morning Becomes Esoteric. No, wait. Morning becomes Eccentric. Hold up. It was Morning Becomes Eclectic. I’m pretty sure it was that one. And they also had the Joe Frank Show.
I also watched that stream and it was really satisfying watching Knower's fanbase grow in real time and see people react to THE GOVT KNOWS. BTW Tom you're so much cooler than people who don't leave sarcastic comments. Congratulations! Wow!
And there I tough music was done, everything done and no inovation possible anymore. Knower proved my wrong. Best thing that happened to music since 20 years.
As much as I like the live jams with full band, this is the real Knower to me. ✌️ This is just totally unique. Using synths instead of strings and horns, and all the other electronic techniques, gives the arrangements a bigger, more modern and innovative sound. It’s like the 80s, but from the future, played by virtuosos. Really exciting and brilliant music.
Yes to this. I came here after seeing the full band live vid to hear more of what I thought was just a solid drummer. Had no idea he was also the songwriter and could play keys as well. Mind blown.
@@dkny02138 I believe Genevieve writes a lot of the Knower songs, and Louis produces/arranges (as opposed to his solo work, which he writes). That's what I've read anyway, and I will say a lot of the KNOWER melody lines have a more genevievey flavour than Louis Cole's solo output. That said with two people who work so closely together I imagine it's difficult to say this person or that person wrote this or that thing since you bounce off each other so much
I am absolutely Blown Away by you guys. In the 80s my dad turned me on to jazz fusion. He would be 85 right now. And I guarantee he would have absolutely loved you guys as well. Pure talent and genius here. No bubble gum. But you can have some bubble gum if you want some. Haha. Not sure how to categorize. Not sure this music can be categorized just yet. You guys are in a class all by yourself it seems. Finding your music has been one of those defining life moments for me. It will be a place marker in my life. Thank you for that.
well louis cole, in an interview, said that he and genevieve have an album written for knower already, but with all of the corona stuff they had to delay it, since they wanted to record with live musicians.
It’s amazing how he’s got like two pieces and still makes the most of it. He sounds so distinctive with so little. It’s all in the tiny details I guess. I’m no expert on drumming, but I love his tiny hi-hat or cross stick (I think) patterns. I think those little details are part of the formula.
"Hanging On": my favourite song. So big, so lush... "Let Go", my other favourite song. Who am i kidding, they all are my favourite song. Thank you KNOWER for making my day.
Thought this was a special mix until I remembered I was watching my vids at 1.25x. Great performance. Always love to see Louis and Genevieve making great music with their friends.
I love the shadow of the ceiling fan and it's pull chains dangling right by Louis' face while he's standing. It imparts a "suburban" feel that you just can't get with most other groups.
I love how Genevieve's voice cuts through in this set, sounding conversationally audible and delicate despite the delicious madness going on. They never seem to do the same thing twice. Louis' bass at 18:40 is soooo sic!
The support and love in this comment section shows how much clout is dying. Discovering Louis Cole and Knower has been so validating to me as an artist who is aware of her uniqueness. Much love ❤️
My favorite snare drum of the last century was from The Band's Moondog Matinee album version of "Mystery Train". Louis Cole has dethroned that snare with Hang On @9:48
LC rocks, but every (bootlegged) video misses Gen's amazing voice. I absolutely loved this because it brings her voice to the front. This was a real treat.
Strange coincidence that whenever I'm at my lowest Knower seems to have a new release. Was feeling "gun-in-mouth" down this morning but this music saved me. Don't enjoy the downs all that much, but if that's the price the universe charges for brilliant, ecstatic, joy...I pay it gladly. Amazing performance. Love you guys! Please keep Knower-ing!
i dont know you, but i understand where you're at and i just want you know that you are loved (even if just by a stranger who knows nothing about you on the internet in the knower comments section)
Man, I'm not sayin that Knower set the standard of a legit living room set as they did before but........I think they just set the standard haha. On the real, this was an awesome set!
Nice to see electronic music actually being performed instead of played off a laptop. Not that those others arent talented, but theres something missing in that style. Its inspiring to see someone play the drums like that with amazing live vocals instead of it all being hidden in a computer.
Big surprise seeing Knower in Secret Sky Festival tbh. Frickin Enjoyed tuning in the stream while getting some noise complaints. Thank you so much KNOWER
When are you coming to Norway? We need you to fire up our stages with your enormous energetic creativity. Love that you listened to Scritti Politti Genevieve. Bring Tim Lefebvre too.
I was watching the Louis Cole 2019 live video and feeling sad about not getting to see that show in person before the pandemic and thus video came on and everything was suddenly OK
SO happy that this came up. Thank you! The visuals were outstanding and original! I love the barking dog and the wolves nodding with the groove. I assume Genevieve has perfect pitch because I've never heard her not nailing it. And Louis Cole is the funkiest skeleton alive. Man, I was skinny like that and so insecure about it when I was young. Louis owns it. More performances, please! But stay safe and healthy!
I listen to this almost every day. When it's time to get to the nitty-gritty part of life, work, family, whatever... There's something in this that holds it together for me. Enjoy the pizza, you earned it.
