School food program providers from across Ontario gathered for this knowledge-sharing event hosted by the Ontario Chapter of the Coalition for Healthy School Food (chaired by Sustain Ontario).
The event started with short presentations about different ways that organizations are helping make sure that students have access to healthy food at school every day. Presenters included:
Luisa Magalhaes (Peterborough Public Health) - School Food Boxes to Student Nutrition Programs in Peterborough and County
Danielle Findlay (Ontario Student Nutrition Program Southwest Region) - Student Advisory Committee and Student Ambassador program
Growing Chefs! Ontario - The Beet Café
Chris Peacock (The Sharing Place Food Centre, Orillia) - ecommerce platform and the purchasing, packing and distribution process done at their facility
Carolyn Webb (Sustain Ontario / Coalition for Healthy School Food) - updates relating to the development of a school food program for Canada
Participants then broke out into small groups to discuss a range of relevant topics of interest including: Student engagement, procurement, policy and advocacy, food literacy, returning programs to pre-covid levels, and partnership development
