The Knoxville Garden Club and Garden Study Club announce the 47th annual Talahi Plant Sale at Lakeshore Park on Saturday, April 16th, from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. This year's theme is "Flower Power! Groovin in Your Garden". We will revisit the consciousness-raising 60"s when recycling and conservation were re-born into American psyches!
• Garden enthusiasts will be able to purchase hundreds of varieties of perennials, annuals, wildflowers and herbs as well as plants that were lovingly grown and nurtured in members' gardens.
• Perennials will feature Lenten roses, astilbe, bleeding heart, brunera, heucheras, peonies, baptisia, jasmine, climbing hydrangea and other vines. Wildflowers will feature Tiarellas, Jack in the Pulpit, Trillium, and several varieties of ferns. Herbs will have over 35 varieties of flowering, culinary and medicinal herbs for sale with multiple varieties of favorites such as rosemary, sage, lavender and thyme. Rosemary topiaries will make a great gift. Annuals will include a wide variety of plants, most of which are locally grown.
• A select group of Propagated plants will be available, varieties of hydrangeas, viburnums, azaleas, and other vines, trees, and shrubs.
• "Ask an Expert" features some of Knoxville's most experienced gardeners available to answer questions during the sale.
• Heirloom Vegetables will feature "salsa" and "salad" baskets filled with heirloom vegetables to grow.
• Edible Revolution owned by Sarah Bush will design a raised bed kitchen garden and educate the public in how to grow vegetables and herbs and be good stewards of the earth's resources.
• The Green Elephant is a collection of gently used items from members, including planters, tools, linens, art and other garden accessories.
• The Marketplace consignment area will feature area vendors with many garden accessories and beautiful orchids. Josie Sibold will once again bring her concrete garden art, usually a sell out item for the sale.
• Don't forget to visit the Kudzu Café for lunch and also the Baked Goods area with home made cakes, bread, cookies and snacks.
• The Knoxville Recycling Coalition will educate the public in composting and recycling.
• The proceeds of the Talahi Plant Sale benefit community and educational projects in our area. In the past 11 years, over $300,000 has been given back to the community.
• The proceeds of $30,800 from the 2010 Talahi Plant Sale supported the following organizations: Blount Mansion, Boy Scouts of America, Childhelp, Dogwood Arts Festival, Florence Crittenton, Friends of the UT Gardens, Great Smoky Mountain Heritage Center, Ijams Nature Center, Knox County Public Library McClung Collection, Knoxville Botanical Gardens, Knoxville Museum of Art, Knox Youth Sports, Legacy Parks Foundation, and Old Gray Cemetery.
• Considered to be the oldest plant sale in the area, the event is sponsored by All Occasions Party Rentals, Ann and Steve Bailey, Bob's Wine and Liquor Store, Episcopal School of Knoxville, HGTV, Stanley's Greenhouse, Tennessee Turf Masters, WBIR-TV and WOKI News Talk 98.7.
