KOBALT Tools NEW XTR Impact Driver DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE! (they did it) 

Bought the 6 piece set around Christmas. The impact just died on me yesterday. They didn’t have the bare tool so they gave me the entire impact kit as a replacement. New battery, charger and bag. Props to Lowe’s

I own most of the old 24v tools. They do everything I need. I will probably eventually upgrade, but not until the old tools stop working.

I got the 5 tool kit combo last year. I’m the only guy on the site with kobalt tools, of course, people talk trash, but my impact and drill never let me down.

I wish Milwaukee would go to a dual ball bearing on their impact driver cullet...I'm having similar issues as yinz are having...love the video guys!!! Looks like Kobalt is stepping up their game!!!

I recently got the xtr 1/4 variable speed impact driver and I love this thing. The battery life is phenomenal, the available torque is amazing, and the assist option is great for driving wood screws into crappy home depot lumber without splitting it. I have a complete DeWalt 20v set, but will be switching over all of my tools to kobalts new line. My next purchase will either be the hammer drill or reciprocating saw.

I am an HVAC appreciate and I use the old 24v kobalt tools and I love them. I will be getting the $399 kit soon. I'm excited for the new reciprocating saw the most!

I don’t know what video editing tools you use but how about adding graphic overlays to the channel. Such as when listing specs/time comparisons. It would add immensely to the channel and make it more polished and professional. You all rock! Keep up the great work!

I bought the drill/impact driver combo 3 years ago... Abused the heck out of them daily as a commercial electrician working in a hospital. I drill out tons of panel boxes, steel, aluminum, stainless.. Been waiting on either one of them to die so I can fill my Packout box with Milwaukee replacements. I also use the Milwaukee mini bandsaw and the newer cut off tool... I gotta say.. To make the comment that it's "Apprentice" quality shows you obviously don't use them for actual work. The original 24v Kobalt kit has far outlasted and out performed my expectations. I would NEVER call them "Apprentice" quality. They made me a believer and I literally use them every day. Hell I still use the original 2.0 batteries that came with them! I upgraded to the 4 because I drill roughly 10 3/4" holes in every can and the batteries and drills take a beating so I got a bigger battery but yeah.... Kobalt kicks ass.

I got the 1/2 impact and love it got 1200 ft lb of braken force and 750. Ft lb of torque

I am interested in the xtr but i have the old one and it is so good. It doesnt overheat and the battery lasts longer than any other battery

Which one its better milwaukee or kobalt trying to start a battery platform?

I was looking for the 5 piece set since I saw the unboxing video. Not available online or in store. But my stubborn ass was determined when I last went to lowes. I parked my cart and looked all over top racks etc. Came back and noticed the brown box I parked my cart next to was a shipping box that just barely said kobalt xtr kit. Spent 10 minutes looking for someone to open it and purchased it immediately! Was very excited to get it

I show up people with DeWalts and Milwaukees all the time on the job with my Kobalt tools. They've never left me hanging and always performed spectacularly. These new ones are even better. I won't be upgrading until my old Kobalts fail though.

They are definitely going after Milwaukee they have "better" numbers and the same warranty

Vince I have to respectfully disagree and say the old 24v max line has been a solid and reliable choice for me since I started in the trades 6 years ago. I built cabinets in a production setting for 2 years and went into trim carpentry 4 years ago with the same hammer drill/impact combo I originally purchased. I upgraded with the release of the xtr line and I'm even happier with this pair. Sinks a 3 inch drywall screw with no pilot hole in a SNAP.

I picked up the 24v and the reverse goes really fast but the drive goes slow and weak. That can’t be correct right?

the only thing i dislike is the light placement, I prefer it on the collar for more direct lighting for working in tight places (cabinetry work)

I have used the kobalt 24v line for the last 2 years building doors with no issue. Extremely reliable and the battery life is its top feature. I bought the XTR's as soon as they hit the shelf.

6 piece (non XTR) was $199 over January. Currently lowes has some good deals on the older models so I'll just be happy with what I have.

Personally on the old 24v max I love the first setting for running transmission pan bolts tight it tightens them perfect as to where you would by hand but not enough to brake them it's super handy

I just purchased the XTR Drill, impact driver, and light kit. Found an incredible number of positive reviews across the interwebs. People doing some serious construction work with the OLD 24max reporting zero issues. Should last me forever as an occasional DIYer.

I really need your help. I have a 14 year old Hitachi Drill that somehow lasted all these years and just now the batteries are starting to go bad Overall I just need a new more powerful drill. I have only one main concern and that's longevity! I don't expect another 14 year lifespan but I was wondering is there a TOYOTA of drill brands? One that's known for reliability and longevity? I apologize for the dumb question. I love everything about the new Kobalt XTR series but unfortunately every single tool I have broken in the past has been a Kobalt so I'm just way to nervous to go that route. Hopefully you could give some insight from personal and professional use as to what seems to hold up the test of time the best from battery and overall drill life?

#veryCoolGang I bought the 24v trimmer blower combo last year based off your recommendation. Is the XTR line worth the money or do I wait til Black Friday to buy other 24v tools? I am all about continuity and am a new homeowner.

Just got the old model in a 6 tool kit for christmas and im super stoked on them as its my first cordless tool kit, but man that XTR makes me envious lol.

Its so funny how in Vinces videos, Nick is so quiet and im Nicks videos, Vince is quiet but on TTR, you hear nothing but "LETS GOO" or you see the robot dance from Vince. Haha what a great channel.

I can say, I'm in the hvac trade and also do a whole lot of side work (ie. Concrete work, decking, fencing, mechanics, etc). I get alot of shit from the yellow black and decker guys *no offense* because I use the older 24v max impact. I had the og 18v set, I still have it, they still work. That prompted me to get the 24vmax when it came out. I have consistently used the older impact, for approx 6 years consistently, day in and day out, this includes use of lag bolts, actual bolts, every deck screw you can think of, paddle bits, step bits, speedbor bits etc, for all of this time. Never had ANY issue. I did some hvac work at a chicken plant for a while, dropped it off of a 27' tall building onto the rocky asphalt parking lot, the battery popped off, put the battery back on, and have used it for 3 years since that. Kobalt doesn't pay me to advertise, I just use what works, and I'm here to tell you these work. And I'm one to spend top dollar on quality as I am very serious about my work, and I've had the milwaukee, makita, Dewalt, and bosch platforms, and this out performs them second to none all day, every day, even when wet. Left it overnight in the rain on a flat roof, came back to g see t it and it still works. I do not know about the new xtr version, but if its anything like the older max, you'd be silly to consider anything else for any job. I've even broken several impact rated adapters, broken several large bolts with it. 11/10 tool for sure.

My Kobalt 24V max is still going strong. Don't use it much these days since I got the m12 gen 2. I'd love to use the XTR and try it out. Sounds like my wife knows what to get me for my birthday next year 🤣🤣

I have about every Kobalt 24V tool made and love them all. As far as impact driver, I use the older model the most. The XTR is in the box however I haven't found anything tough enough to warrant the XTR power. Waiting for the Kobalt right angle drill. For now the Kobalt impact driver with Dewalts right angle driver adapter and Makita's steel chuck adapter is fantastic. The new right angle drill specs look pretty weak so maybe I will stay with my present set-up

I would like to see Kobalt vs. Makita. Also, please compare impact driver with 1/4" hex collet vs. 1/4" impact wrench. Have we been using the wrong tool all along? Does an impact wrench produce more torque ?

"hardcore DYI'er" really dude? I have multiple sets of every power tool kobalt carries to date. I fabricate and install aluminum storefronts and been using/abusing the drills and impacts every single day for almost 4 years now with ZERO issues. For up to 1/2" holes in concrete, I even put away the corded hilti, and been using the kobalt cordless. P. S. F Dewalt lol

Are they actually measuring up to those numbers like Ryobi says number that do not match up I don't want to say the middle. Brand made by tti in a lot of their numbers are not inflated

I use the locking bit holders for my job and when I put the locking bit holder in my impact it breaks it, it makes that much power

Kobalt already is contractor grade. I work in construction and use this same tool everyday for the last 3 years...it did everything my Milwaukee did and it did it better...i actually sold my Milwaukee impact and driver...i love these kobalt

Once again a great Comparison video. You hit all the important points in your presentation and illustrated the differences between the old Kobalt 24Vmax and the New XTR . Its good to know that you don't have to buy new batteries to power the new XTR you can use the batteries from the 24Vmax(previous) model, I like the real world tests with the 6-8-10 inch screws as well as Lag bolts. Your testing for power and speed as well as durability are spot on and show what you can expect from the tools being tested . Keep up the good work.

The old model is contractor grade... Im a GC been using kobalt the last 4 years....i sold all my Milwaukee shit after trying kobalt.... virtually the same performance for less than half the price...i like my money in my pocket... And the new.xtr line upnin my opinion, is even better the dewalt or Milwaukee

I just did a Lowe's chat thing online & they put me on hold for a while & did some research - seems like they were really trying to find out for me - came back & told me that the kit isn't released yet online & they don't have a price on it yet. Does anyone know if the 5 piece combo kit will be available online & if it will be $399?! That price seems way too good to be true, as the tools are listed individually online at Lowe's for as much as $189 each (old models & new XTR's)! (I don't live near a Lowe's so I will have to order online.) Also, does anyone know if the warranty is honored only if purchased from Lowe's? Amazon sells Kobalt from 3rd party sellers...I just ordered a 2 pieces combo kit (not XTR) from Amazon a few days ago, but after seeing this new line I am cancelling my order...just hoping that I can really get the XTR kit for $399! The “old” model isn’t outgoing.... I work for Lowes and the xtr range isn’t replacing anything. It’s in addition to the old line. So we’ll have the basic line, the old 24v line, and the higher grade line, the xtr. Nothings disappearing or going away. We’re just adding more. Get that correct please!! We have so many people asking when we’re going to clearance out the old stuff but we’re not it’s staying.

You never mentioned the price of this toll how much does it cost?

24 Volt gives Kobalt from 20 to 33% more power potential. Add in the new higher amp batteries and these systems will be hard to beat. My only questions is does the XTR battery provide a power boost to the older tools?

I love the super slow first gear of my old style kobalt impact. Super useful to not oversink screws into drywall. I think 1950 rpms is much too much for a low setting.

Why can’t I find the 5 tool kit anywhere?? New xtr set in hard box??!!?? Seen one in store, got the wifey approval , now no where to be found!!

I'd argue the old Kobalts are already contractor grade, their warranty holds integrity through it's 5 years even when used professionally. I've only been using them professionally for about a year (got tired of replacing ryobis every few months even though bossman swore by that method) but they work like new and the prices are still low. It's very annoying to only be able to get them at Lowe's however.
