Excerpt from ‘“The moment he does it, I’m taking your a*s out the game” - J.R. Smith recalls being subbed out seven seconds into a game against Kobe Bryant’ article by Damien Peters:
Former NBA sharpshooter J.R. Smith vividly remembers being subbed out of a game early on in his career after Kobe Bryant schooled him, despite his coaching staff telling him what Kobe would do.
Smith, 37, made an appearance on the J.J. Redick Podcast last week and recalled being overconfident when preparing for a matchup with the Los Angeles Lakers legend before being served some humble pie.
“Byron Scott, my rookie year, said I’m guarding Kobe. In practice, we go over the walkthrough, and he said, ‘He’s going to take two dribble baseline and he’s going to pump fake, and pump fake again, stay down. It doesn’t matter how many times he pump fakes; just stay down.' I said, 'All right.' We go to shoot around. He said, ‘Rookie he’s going to take you down, two dribbles, stay down.’ I said, ‘All right, I got it.’ He said, 'Okay since you think you have it, the moment he does it, and you jump, I’m taking your a*s out of the game," Smith recalled

Being adaptive is a virtue that transcends basketball. That‘s why Kobe always mentioned how basketball taught him so much about life. And part of the reason why he still was arguably the best in 12-13 before the achilles injury happened.

Basketball is greatest metaphor we have for life, he said in the Knuckleheads podcast. That’s always stuck with me in the back of my mind. And yes some might say that’s the best version of Kobe we’ve seen (2012-13).

@@inexpugnabilis thank you! Just want to make the covers unique even though I’m not the best at graphic design. It felt a lot more fun posting a video just because of that time I took off. A fresh feeling, it’s good.
