Kobe Bryant Left-Right/Right-Left Crossover Evolution (1997-2016)

Kobe Bryant was one of the most skilled all-around basketball players of all time. Aside from being a 12x All-NBA defender, Kobe had every move and shot in his offensive arsenal. However, one under-looked aspect of the Mamba's game was his ball-handling ability. Kobe already had a devastating crossover once he came into the league as a rookie in 1997. During his early NBA years, his left-right/right-left crossover was explosive and completely shifted a defender's momentum. Additionally, he sometimes would use a between the legs dribble to set up the quick crossover dribble. Over time Kobe's crossover would get faster to create enough separation for a shot. After his Achilles injury, while he lost some quickness, this move was still effective in catching defenders off guard. The beauty in this crossover is its simplicity, as it shows there is no need to take a thousand dribbles to create separation. I've slowed down and zoomed in on numerous plays to demonstrate each move's effectiveness. I also included plays where Kobe missed or got fouled. If you want to check out the full highlights or videos from where I found the crossovers, the channels are below.

Good stuff dawg fr, and thorough description. He indeed made the most of simple change-of-direction moves.

Thank you bro! Thanks for providing some clips in the video from rare gems. Yes he only needed that little bit of separation from the simple change of direction to get his shot off. Really different from the stars of today like Harden, Kyrie, etc

@Aniello A It's Taylor bro , you DID IT!! Just now getting these slow notifications . About to roll a WOOD and learn this, really APPRECIATE this. RIP BEAN 🙏MY favorite was vs gallanari (knicks, seen it live) , kob kept the ball low, secured it with his palm, dribble short (hard to steal). 97-99' I feel it was at his deadliest before the league changed the rules his crossover had more flare and he carried it longer.

I got you bro, I told you I was going to get it done with at least one crossover from each season of his career. Lol Kobe crossed up Gallinari a few times but that one vs the Knicks was just nasty. Yup great point, Kobe would keep the ball low and dribble shortly to prevent the defender from stealing the ball. Another good example of this is his one vs Denver in 2012. Yeah the young, athletic 97-99’ had some killer crosses and he’d go hard to the rim too, look at the ones vs Ben Wallace or the Jazz. Absolutely filthy

This is dope. Kobe's cross is underrated. He's crossed more people than Iverson. Kobe had it all Jesus Christ!!

Well we must thank him for the memories I was a kobe fan from day 1 we are about the same age when espn introduced the Generation neXt, not a team fan I watch nba because of kobe. I might say a man crush have a lot of kobe collections. The most skilled player of all time hands down no debate on that. Your clip showing only his crossovers one of his many skills.
