Kobe Bryant - Lockdown

Kobe Bean Bryant made the all-defensive first team as recently as 2011, and the second team in 2012. Some may argue that he didn't deserve to be, but this isn't about that. This is about showing he can still lockdown for a possession or two when he really wants to get after it.

Bryant locked up kyrie at 34/35 years old. Let that sink in a minute...

Not knocking on Kobe, but that was a younger, less experienced Kyrie. Kobe had said before that he couldn't figure out Durant because he improved his exploitable flaws. Same could apply to Kyrie.
@jeradanderson42
@jeradanderson42 4 года назад
@@trollking4058 true but Durant is different kind of player, Durant can beat you with his height along with a variety of moves in the post, where as kyrie is a playmaking shot creator who often works better in iso, where as Durant can score in any situation on the floor, kyrie is pretty great bit imo he's easier to guard than Durant especially since kobe has 3 to four inches on him just like Durant has about 5 inches or so on kobe
@trollking4058
@trollking4058 4 года назад
@@jeradanderson42 That's the thing though. Kyrie can score just as well as KD. The only thing separating them is the height thing. With that said, Kyrie most definitely has a larger arsenal of moves he could use against Kobe now.
@jeradanderson42
@jeradanderson42 4 года назад
@@trollking4058 well see that's also the thing his height gives him even more moves but I would disagree with him being on the same level of scoring, as a celtics fan I watched him and I watched kd this year and kyrie Def had more trouble scoring and he has the offense run thru him where as kd always seemed to be playing the flow of the game, could be the game plan but just how I saw it

One of the things that made Kobe great, was his basketball IQ. If you notice, on the possession in which he's guarding Wade, he freely gave him the left side. Perhaps understanding that Wade was dominantly right handed. He adjusted his game when he needed to.
@alexanderyoung243
@alexanderyoung243 4 года назад
True but wade has more blocks and is more effecient defensively and offensively just not behind the point line. Kobe played above average defense, he wasn't a more successful defender than wade. He focused on offense much more which is understandable.

J Funny you mention that, Kobe shot very poorly (40FG% 31% 3pt) during the 2010 finals. Pau Gasol was more efficient on the offensive end. HOWEVER, Kobe also made up for it by playing tremendous defense in that finals. Leading all starters in defensive rating. That is pretty much the complete opposite of what Kobe is about since late 00s
@IAMATRUEBEAST101
@IAMATRUEBEAST101 7 лет назад
The main reason for Kobe's efficiency being not that great in the 2011 Finals is because of that Game 7. He was shooting 43.5% from the field, 37% from three, and 93.5% (42-45) from the free throw line prior to Game 7.

Obviously there are similarities between Kobe and Jordan, but in terms of defensive similarities, i see more similarities of Kobe and Pippen. The way Pippen would stay upright with his opponent, and did a jump turn to match his opponent's change of direction. Kobe does this too. It is partly because of rule changes, but yeah I see more Pippen defensively in Kobe than Jordan in terms of style. All three probably some of the best perimeter defenders of all time.
@Parkjoonho18
@Parkjoonho18 8 лет назад
And i know Kobe would often guard someone on the ball rather run around screens so he could keep offensive legs, but it is not like other great defenders did not have great help...

EveryDayIsAGoodDay Kobe had like 9 All NBA Def. 1st team selections, dumbass. "Unimpressive" u don't know basketball bc he was the BEST perimeter defender at his position in the early-mid 2000's.

Kobe and LeBron are the greatest players of this generation. But you gotta give Kobe the nod over Bron; that hunger, that drive, never giving up on the play. Kobe even had the refs on edge in this video.

@CrimsonHeart3

Lebrons chasedown blocks are mostly influenced by his insane genetics - in terms of defensive skill he is not impressive - he doesn't shut players down.

What? LeBron was never even intending on going to a West team ever until last year when he signed with the Lakers. The Heat were more promising and so were the Cavs that he went back to. Kobe wasn’t a threat to LeBron considering Kobe couldn’t stay healthy in LeBron’s prime
